Hey guys, it is starting to get a little colder as we travel south. We left Exmouth for Waroora Station, via Coral Bay. As we left, the weather went sour, showers and over cast. Not the best reef snorkelling weather, however that was not to deter us. Coral Bay was a bute little town, caravan park small little shops (including a Bakery!!!) It was busy with WA school holidays that had just started, but was not over run. After getting lunch from the Bakery, they have the best pies and lamingtons, we headed for the beach. They hire out glass bottom boats, canoes and boogie boards with glass windows. We had bought some snorkelling gear so we head 2 at a time out on the reef. It was very different coral. The coral was flower shaped ... read more

Well, I made it into Perth from Singapore without any major issues, and when I got the bus in from the airport I went straight to the hostel that we'd booked and met up with Will. The 15 degree winter weather in Perth was definitely welcome after feeling close to death after walking anywhere in Singapore. Due to being really tired from the active few days we had in Singapore (we must have walked at least 20 miles there, fml) and the flight I just spent the weekend doing pretty much nothing (I have found this to be my god-given talent). However, I did manage to gather enough energy to make the five minute walk to the local pub, where I was excited beyond belief when I found that not only does Australia serve cider in ... read more

Saying goodbye to everyone was way too hard. And the meltdown only got more embarrassing when I had to leave Matt at the airport. I was unnecessarily dramatic and ridiculous about the whole situation, but I can admit it so that makes it a little more acceptable. But I cheered up a little bit when I saw an Australian guido-looking (if you can even imagine) dad wearing a 'Hangover' T-shirt with a picture of baby Carlos strapped to him, as he held his real kids on backpack leashes. Completely ridiculous. But once I got on the plane, I popped a sleeping pill and passed out for twelve hours and woke up feeling like I just came off anesthesia. Right in time for breakfast! I also decided that I am going to start flying internationally more often ... read more

Hello everyone. I am working at the Elephant and Wheelbarrow now as a Glassy (bus boy for glasses and bottles) and Relief Bartender! The Glassy gig is relatively easy, patrol your designated area and collect empty or abandoned glasses or bottles. We each carry a tray and loaded it up before returning to the bar we're assigned to, where we divvy up the different types of glasses and put them through the dish washer. Of course that isn't all there is to it, you have to navigate your way trough the press of semi-inebriated patrons, often with the tray (empty or teetering with glass) held high above your head so that you can make it through. What happens at least 3 times throughout then night when you find yourself in the position more often than not? ... read more

I only have a few days left in Perth before heading up the west coast. It's a bit sad to say bye to Perth. It's a really cool city and just the right size for me. I love it. I met up with Uli and Phil and some of their friends for dinner one night which was really fun. I'm going to miss Phil! Uli is coming on the same tour as me up the west coast. The next day I spent a a big mall just checking things out and talked to a travel agent in regards to South America and got a few brochures on it. I also decided to go and see the last Harry Potter movie in 3D. It was really good! My last day in Perth was rainy and cloudy, something ... read more

Ange's body must be in wind down mode. Yet again we have started annual leave and yet again Ange's immune system appears to have resigned aswel. It seems Ange's lunch after the plane ride to Perth has decided that her stomach is not the place it wishes to reside in and is coming out at high pressure from any relief valve it can locate. My beautiful wife is having a terrible time with a bout of food poisoning. Started last night around 8.30pm and she was still purging this morning around 1.45am. Hopefully she will be right when she wakes up. Less than two weeks before we leave for the big trip so hopefully this will toughen the immune system up for the maltreatment it will receive whilst away. Cheers Nathange... read more

Had breakfast with the girls this morning who don't fly out until later in the evening. My flight is in the afternoon. After breakfast I sat by the pool finishing my book and relaxing. I said goodbye to the girls, the last time i'll ever see them. Hopped into a cab out to the airport which didn't take as long as I thought it would. After getting checked in and paying my departure tax of 150,000 ruphias (~$15) I went through immigration with no problems. I wandered around looking at all the shops and waited for my gate to be open. While I was sitting on a bench I was approached by a young girl doing a survey on the airport so I answered her questions and got a free pen for doing it haha. My ... read more

After going over all of my previous entries I’ve come to the realization that I haven’t given a detailed description to what it’s like to live in a hostel dorm room. I think I just go so used to it that when I rented out a room in Byron Bay it was a bit of a shock to me. Dorm room aren’t all that bad, be they 4 bed dorms or up to 20 bed dorms, you get used to sleeping in a room with others. Some people can be less than considerate to their other roommates, stumbling in at the wee hour of the morning very loudly speaking to one another, sometimes to continue drinking while everyone else is trying to sleep. Privacy is always at a premium, and since you are often showering in ... read more

Hello Year 5! Wow what an adventure I have been on...I have just travelled across the whole of Australia by train. I have not only crossed a whole country, but also an entire continent! The train I caught is called the Indian-Pacific because it runs from Sydney on the Pacific Ocean in eastern Australia to Perth on the Indian Ocean in the west. The train journey took 3 days and 3 nights and covered 4352 kilometres, which is the same as travelling from England to Egypt or Iraq! Unfortunately the train was running late from the start so we didn't get to visit many places along the way as they had to make up time to stop us being late into Perth. I missed seeing the Blue Mountains again as it was dark by the time ... read more

We arrived in Perth looking forward to it being our home for the next 4 months – although this was all dependent on whether we would find jobs and a roof over our head (in the small window of time that we had!). On our first night we had our first experience of couch-surfing (kipping in some randoms house for free) when the lovely Maria picked us up from the airport, gave us a quick tour of the city and then took us back to our digs for the night. Our hosts were really friendly and Maria’s husband even welcomed us with some lethal shots of vodka back from his home in Serbia! The next day it was time to hit the hostel life again and start the flat/job search. We booked into a hostel in ... read more
