On Thursday we got up very early to tackle the early morning peak hour traffic and made it over to the northern side of Perth. A week earlier we finalised another house sit over Easter which we were stoked about mainly not to have to endure the extra long weekend madness in a caravan park. The house was in a suburb near Leederville which is just an awesome location only 10 minutes out of Perth. It is a booming area that would leave us pennyless if we wanted to buy a home here. The two dogs we looked after were keepers, an older dalmation and a younger staffy. A part from a cool and grey start to Thursday the weather was just spot on. Blue skys, sunshine and the temperature was up around 30 for the ... read more

This morning we had a lie in until 8am, although we were awake from 4.30am as the fire alarm was faulty and beeping throughout the night, and our room also overlooked a train track. But we were used to being up early from our nights in the outback so we got up and had a quick search of the Internet to sort out accommodation for later in the trip, as well as a winery tour for the following day. Once organised we headed into the CBD which was only a 10 minute walk from our hostel. We picked up a coffee on the way and got a couple of maps from the the tourist office with suggested walks around the city. We made a plan to combine the suggested walks ... read more

It was our last day on tour today so by now we were all well practiced at packing up the bus. After breakfast we boarded the bus and headed to an Aboriginal cultural centre where a local aboriginal took us for a guided walk through the bush. Josh, our guide, told us about the various bush plants and how each of them had a unique use - from food, medicine, weapons and use in making fire. Josh also explained how the aboriginals would hunt the various local wildlife based on the seasons, making sure that they didn't hunt any wildlife during mating or birthing seasons so as to ensure that there was always plentiful food in the future. We also got the chance to take a look in the Ngilgi Caves that ... read more

Hello! So once again this blog is long overdue. Apologies, we are trying to be better but all this travelling is getting in the way! So for the second time we bring you a 3 part saga, this time from the shores of the gigantic land mass that is Australia. PART 1: The end of Sydney We left you last time just before our blue mountain adventure. This was pretty sweet as we were fortunate enough to meet up with one of Alex's friends that lives south of the mountains, who has a degree in outdoor adventures. He subsequently took us on 2 days of rock climbing, absailing, and canyoning in some of the best and off the tourist track spots. The drive to tiger snake canyon (so named because the first people to find it ... read more

... read more
