We've only been planning this trip for about 4 years, so nice to be finally heading off!

Jeppy has quit his job after really starting to climb the scrap metal promotion ladder, lets hope he can repay off the loan and not convince me to spend all the money we have left by October on world cup final tickets.

I've just finished my degree (2:1 for those that didn't know) and after a summer of work I'm definitely ready to relax in the setting of Christchurch, New Zealand come September 5th.

This will be the site of our blog. The punctuation will be maintained at a very high standard, lessons have been learned from the (maybe not so!) tongue-in-cheek criticism from the Sprague family in the past...

We'll try and update it when we can, though if you feel like we haven't posted for a long time, it probably just means we're trekking in the Andes, appreciating the awesome power of nature and the insignificance of man. Or we could literally be in Burma.

That's all for now.

Hello from Cambodia! Lets crack on. We arrived in Georgetown in the early afternoon and booked into an old colonial style hostel with a vibrant Reggae theme. Yes, it was as cool as it sounds and the beds were each in their own little cubby holes with curtains. Georgetown wasn't too special a place, similar in feel to KL but a little smaller and with a less-than-average china town. This wasn't a problem as it was an extra stop and only for one night to aid travel times, but we got rewarded by an awesome evening meal in one of the 3000 or so local Indians. By this point in our trip we had fallen in love with Iced Coffees after discovering how awesome and cheap they are in Ipoh, turns out Iced coffee makes for ... read more

Welcome to Asia! Where the people are friendly and the beers are cheap(er). We started in Singapore, the state of many rules. A night in the cells for spitting on the street seemed to me to be a little extreme, but then I was warned. We spent our time here in what was an awesome hostel, apparently in asia things are done for you. For example the free breakfast toast was toasted by the receptionist, the pool table in the bar paid for and racked by the bar maid, the hawker stalls get a water out of the fridge for you, the list goes on! We also splashed some cash in an outdoor 50m pool, one whole singapore dollar. Singapore as a whole is pretty clean, and the centre in particular is ridiculous. Think upside-down sydney ... read more

So Jeppy has filled you in on our progress up to Surfers paridise. This is where I take over again, notice the sudden improvement in writing style and wit. Firstly I should note on my version of our small split before Byron. We visited Newcastle, which had the largest ocean baths in the southern hemisphere (10 points to who knows the one in the northern hemisphere). We stayed for Sunday and had a relaxing night of recovery from Sydney. In Port Macquarie we decided to go for a stroll to see the sights. As the rest of Australia though map distances are decieving as Aussies have no reason to build things close together. So it was probably a deserved kip on the beach when we finally arrived 6km later! Coffs was a strange mix. The terrible ... read more

Hi guys! this is my first blog in a long long time! Im pretty sure i havent sat infront of this blog screen since.....New Zealand. Of course I was busy working in Sydney where as Andy was just sat about most of the time. For a couple of sentences from me on that; I loved Sydney I worked in a great bar and made some amazing friends, It really gave me the feeling I was living in Sydney and not just traveling through. More importantly friends have been made that should last the test of time! Sooo I believe Andy has caught the blog up to the point of leaving Sydney and starting our East coast travels. Andy and Alex left two days before me and started their greyhound bus adventure visiting; Newcastle, Coffs Harbour and ... read more

Hello! So once again this blog is long overdue. Apologies, we are trying to be better but all this travelling is getting in the way! So for the second time we bring you a 3 part saga, this time from the shores of the gigantic land mass that is Australia. PART 1: The end of Sydney We left you last time just before our blue mountain adventure. This was pretty sweet as we were fortunate enough to meet up with one of Alex's friends that lives south of the mountains, who has a degree in outdoor adventures. He subsequently took us on 2 days of rock climbing, absailing, and canyoning in some of the best and off the tourist track spots. The drive to tiger snake canyon (so named because the first people to find it ... read more

Hi all, I write whilst still in Sydney, though we are out of there a week Saturday to once again start off on our travels. The new job is going swimmingly. I got a chance on my second week to go on a road trip out of the city, so it was my first chance to see some of Australia that wasn't city. The destination was Wagga Wagga, a small lifeless town somewhere near (I say near, but this is Australia so I really mean about 3 hours away from) Canberra. We stayed in a trailer park and I was able to get to know the people from work pretty well over the course of the week. They are now good friends and we often have some drinks after work on Friday and Saturday. I got ... read more

We left you last after just having settled into Sydney. Our first BBQ on the terrace was a delight, and we have continued this tradition up to now. We have yet to try out the aussie's favourite "shrimps on the barbie" (read in your best aussie accent) but now I've wrote this I might have to head out to the shop later and make it happen. The house has been fun, and the people we are sharing with are now good friends. The only downside of the property is the landlord, who seems to insist on an unreasonable level of cleanliness and makes it his daily job to find a reason to evict every housemate so he can keep our bond. We are planning not to give him a reason!! Tom is still at the bar ... read more

Part 3: Australia A new country! We believe this is the first time both me and Tom have got a plane from a country that isn't England to another country that isn't England (connections aside), which means that we are now officially world travellers. Australia greeted us with the realisation that our lack of planning has once again been a little short of the mark. We knew we were heading to my friend from Camp America two years ago Ash's, but as we emerged from the airport into the glaring 28 degree sunshine mapless and with no idea of where either Dee Why or the airport was located with respect to central Sydney, we knew we had some work left to do. After 20 minutes of walking to the bus stop and consulting the map we ... read more

Welcome to part two, general thoughts. Thought 1: Kiwi's can't drive 1. A mile long overtake involves half a mile of sitting half way out of the left lane in order to properly check nothing is coming the other way, 1/4 of a mile slowly drifting up alongside the vehicle in the right hand lane, 1/4 of a mile continuing this pace until the car is just in front, before a mad swerve back into the left hand lane inches in front of your bumper, causing you to heavily brake and wonder from what school for the mentally impaired the driver of the offending UTE* has recently escaped from. *for those unfamilar with the term UTE try to imagine the most pointless waste of pollution possible, add an unused (covered) pick up back coupled with a ... read more

Hello, and welcome to our blog trilogy. As we haven't blogged for quite a while we bring you our update in 3 parts. First, our travels up to the end in New Zealand, secondly we wanted to talk about New Zealand in a more general light so in part two we have some insights into New Zealand as a country and as a people. Part 3 covers the start of our travels in Australia up to today. So, Part 1: First things first, we travelled to New Zealand for the world cup so we have to mention it! New Zealand won, well done to them. But I think we can all safely agree that France were the better team and that Craig Joubere cost them the game by bottling penalty after penalty that should have gone ... read more
