The final day of this adventure saw us boarding both flight numbers 14 and 15 back home to clock up over 30,000 air miles in three months we worked out that we have spent the best part of two days of this trip in airports and can face no more over price coffee, queing and the general nightmare that is air travel the 7 hours in LAX being the low point. So as we touch down in Heathrow we have four hours to wait till our next flight home to Manchester and hopefully our welcoming party . The thing that hits you flying to Manchester is just how beautiful this country is England’s green and pleasant land sparkles and no where is as lush and colourful as our own countryside. the worlds a great place to visit ... read more

So seeing as a National newspaper did write that we were going to buy a new wardrobe in new York we decided we better go and get some new clothes , Philip doesn’t want the tabloids to bran him a fake clothes horse love rat or other such shocking headlines! Although now big brother is under way the Daily Star has much more pressing world matters to report on. So we set off for Century 21 New York’s best kept secret it brands itself as although everyone seems to know it. It is directly opposite ground zero so we first go to amazing little chapel St Paul’s which despite being at the base of the twin towers stood relatively un scathed during the horrific events of 9/11/2001 and also to the visitors centre and museum . ... read more

We have official ran out of steam the final leg of this United states east coast tour was meant to encompass Washington and Philadelphia and the very last run of the trip was Philip going to be running up the rocky steps in Philadelphia but we can face no more travelling .I think we need a Holiday.... In fact if we were in any other city in the world we probably would of gone home but were in New York the greatest city on earth and the reason for that isn’t the obvious times square, the statue of liberty, the Chrysler building the empire state, central park, the met, the mets, the Manhattan bridge it’s the people. In three days in New York we make more friends than probably the previous 90 odd days travelling he ... read more

Day 93 By the time we arrive on a stinking hot morning in new York I don’t believe Philip has been more tired in his life its another 6 hour flight across the states and another three hour time different we have hardly adjusted from the mammoth flight from Sydney and have also crammed in another flight with to san Francisco with a stressful day at LAX a half marathon and a 13 mile walk. We had no sleep on the plane and with blisters rotten toe nails and a thigh strain were half tempted just to keep going on and come home and that isn’t half the story. Dragging our bag thru rush hour on the subway to our next destination in queens is a task it is actually the hottest July on record in ... read more

There were two san Francisco half marathon the first one that was full took you over the bridge so Philip has decided today to walk that route so he will have cover all 26.2 miles in two days and seen a large part of the city without sitting on open top bus maybe this could be our new career running tours of cities taking people on guided runs oh to dream. We deviate slightly from the route to walk along the stunning coastal walk in the golden gate prom past lands end and along the beach which involves some pretty daunting coastal steps not what you need the day after a run. But the views of the bay are stunning and its pretty quiet up here as everyone is no doubt at Fisherman’s wharf buying tacky ... read more

That we managed to get to the start line was the achievement anything else is a bonus is must be one of the most un prepared runs of all times The last time Philip ran was the marathon three weeks ago. That was the worse thing about running the marathon is took such a tole on his feet and legs its took us two weeks to be ready to run again and then we were flying round oz and jetting over here and the travel caught up and there wasn’t any time. The thing is we have really missed it, the running Philip loves it and we are like a child on Christmas eve waiting for the start. To be fair its not like Philip gave up excersie he swam alot in that period and we ... read more

An early morning flight to San Francisco from LA, find the hotel go back down town and register for the marathon chill out at the expo and then maybe a nice pasta Tea at the Fisherman’s Wharf and early night in preparation for tomorrows Half marathon is the plan, easy.....Wrong. We arrive at LAX in plenty of time (didn’t we just!) for the 10.40 flight where we queue up to check in which goes without a hitch till we try to check a bag and the computer wont let us. But Philip did say he was checking a bag so we call for help from the united staff who very kindly takes our ticket to check it and declares. "You cant check your bag till 5 hours before the flight." "But I am on the 10.40 ... read more

So we are two days from our next run in san Francisco and we don’t leave LA till 11am in the morning today we set out for Hollywood for a day of sight seeing and then Philip going to take me to the ball game. Hollywood boulevard Hall of fame is a mile and half of showbiz stars names from the last 50 years ranging from Kermit the frog to Michael Jackson who’s star seemed to be the most popular from the way all and sundry were posing for pictures with it. Its thirsty work so we stop off a drink at the pig and whistle a Hollywood landmark who can count Spencer Tracey Shirley temple and Howard Hughes pre Looney among its former locals and lets face it there are only so many stars you ... read more

Any ideas of an early morning run in the California sun to blow away the cobwebs and loosen up for Sundays half marathon in San Francisco are blown away by Philips 17 hour in bed as he doesn’t rise till 2pm. He reasons he missed a whole days sleeps So by the time we have relaxed in the pool for a couple of hours its time to head downtime to watch LA Galaxy play San Jose earthquakes at soccer as they call it here. Our chauffer for the evening Andrea takes us thou down town LA where we get to see the city at twilight the staples centre where the Lakers play basketball and where Michael Jackson had his memorial service a very enjoyable route. Soccer US style is alot more family orientated and relaxed ... read more

It is pretty neat trick to get your picture taken in Sydney in front of the opera house on a Wednesday morning travel 7487 miles on a 13 1/2 hour flight and get your picture taken in Los angeles at exactly the same date and time. Not so neat if you go the other way as they steal a day off you. where does it go I do not know. We did meet someone in oz who missed there birthday that way left the states arrived in oz without the day having ever existed which is just rude. Although Philip is contemplating flying from LA to Sydney every year on the 12th May so he doesn’t get any older he could stay 38 forever this way. An expense trick thou. Anyway he may be growing older ... read more
