Before we left for Thailand, MN and I went to Tasmania for a couple of days. Lyndsey & Helen had gone the previous weekend, but we still wanted to go to the Open, so we changed our flight. For those who don't know what Tasmania is, its an island off of Australia, but it's considered part of Australia, the eighth state. Anyway, there's much to see there and we only had two days so we had to be picky. There were two hikes we really wanted to do, so we rented a car and headed on our way. The first one was Wineglass Bay, it was a good drive away, but so worth it. It was absolutely amazing! It was about a 4 hour hike and some of it was along the beach and alot of ... read more

Well, Trevs forced me on to the computer and is making me write stuff! Dam it i was quite happy chilling out on our hostels roof garden topping up my tan! Left Trev on the 6th with strict instructions that he had to buy a bus ticket to Sydney and that he wasn't alllowed to get drunk and naked with Dave and Paul. Well, he managed one of them and whoever knows Dave and Paul you know which one it is! Got into Melbourne city, first time on my own so was a bit apprehensive but what a fantastic place. Walked round the city, went to the Fitzroy Gardens, Captains Cooks Cottage, The Rialto Tower and the immigration Museum. I didn't really know what to do then as it was quite late so went back to ... read more

For those of you who have been keeping up with our blog entries, you know that in the last entry from Melbourne we said we were off to Tasmania and didn't know what to expect. Well, this is another one of those places where we were soooooo glad that we did because we both loved it! We rented a car for a week and decided just to drive around and stop at places that looked good to us. We made it a whopping 15 minutes outside of Hobart before we stopped for the night in a town called Sorrell. We got the spa room in a place called The Barracks, which you can guess by the name what it used to be, but is now a quaint B&B. I think it was built in 1829. A ... read more

Tasmania The players: Adam- Met at orientation, knew very slightly. Turns out, he's super-cool and together, we make a comedy team no man can stop. I call him my fraternal twin. Katie- Met through Janice at orientation. Sweet techie girl from Jersey with a big smile. Eva- My co-conspirator and other half, who was with me on the Cairns trip. From UVA, studying in Brisbane. She became the "Backscratcher" due to her amazing abilities with the fingernails on the back. The Greek machine. Me- Insane. The Vehicle: A cranberry red Nissan Pulsar, compact. When Katie drove it, it was called the Tasmanian Devil, due to her wild driving and tendency to pass cars into oncoming traffic. When Adam drove it, it was dubbed the Tassie Cabbie, just because it was. What happened: Everything was unbelieveably awesome. ... read more

Tasmania…certainly a picturesque state and my amateur photos do not do God's marvelous works of art justice. Amber and I departed Adelaide on January the 8th to arrive in Hobart, Tasmania for a short holiday. We shared a cab ride to the airport with Jason and Shane, two guys from Melbourne who thought we needed a quick lesson on cricket. They proceeded to tell us about Donald Bradman, a legendary batter equivalent to Babe Ruth, as we drove past the park named after him just outside the city. Just to give you an example of this "no worries" attitude of Australia folks, Shane picked up the cost of our ride to the terminal without hesitation. We spent our first afternoon wandering around Salamanca market, an eclectic shopping district, which gave us an inside look into the ... read more

The weather did not improve upon arrival in Hobart, the state capital of Tasmania. The entire time I was there it rained, leaving me feel totally unsure of what to do - I really didn't want to go outside, yet I didn't want to stay in the hostel all day - so I went to my old favourite, another Museum!! It was another good museum, with loads of displays on snakes and spiders, but I've been to far too many - why do they all have free entry?! Hobart itself struck me as a poorer city than those I had already seen. Whether this was due to the fact that there were grey skies and rain rather than sun, I do not know - but the buildingsseemed older and not as well maintained as those inthe other ... read more

2002/02 Entry 2 These three Tasmanian entries will not include an actual travel journal as I don't have the time to go through my notes. What I think are the best pictures have been posted and a few comments here and there kind of tell the story:) ....feel free to ask questions about any part of the trip. Basically DV and myself rode from Launceston to Hobart through the centre of Tassy, then back up to Launceston via the east coast.... read more
