Well, it's finally here. After a couple of years planning and saving, we are on our trip today. We have everything packed and organised, but still stressed out a fair bit. I don't think anyone on either side of our families would be different either. Just a recap for some people, we are off tonight at 1845 from Hobart to Melbourne, then getting the 1150 flight to Hong Kong. Staying in Hong Kong until 20/09, where we fly to Edinburgh via Heathrow. A week will be spent in Edinburgh, then we will travel around Scotland for a further two weeks. Then we have a train trip to London on 08/10 for a week, before heading to Pars for 4 days. Our second last leg is to Singapore for four days, before heading home on Sunday 24th ... read more

14th July Well...........................we continue to enjoy life here and have been pretty busy lately. We are now at the end of our fourth week of school - 8 left after this! I have taken control of the signing choir which has been an experience and a half!!! There are about 20 children and they are very keen. I had become involved in "The Festival of Voices" - held in Hobart. However, I decided to drop out - as the leader was very much into "ice-breaker" type warm-ups which I am sure have just been invented in order to make us feel stupid. I hate them - and though the woman was a great singer and obviously very good at what she does - I just felt awkward and uncomfortable the whole time!- I am still doing the ... read more

Monday 5th June We began our holiday walking up to a place called Wellington Falls, straight from our house! The walk was 17km but not too steep and on good paths. The weather was very cold but sunny and at the end of the walk we were rewarded with great views of Wellington Falls. We saw very few people - nothing like walking back in the UK. On the way back, Ivor realised he had left his expensive walking gloves so I took the backpacks and he legged it back to get them, and to try and beat the darkness (it gets dark here at 5pm at the moment). Having been for tea at my colleague's house, a nice evening was spent in the house listening to 5-Live on the internet and laughing about the traffic ... read more

Having been here 5 weeks - we are both amazed that we still feel like we are on a permanent holiday. The house we are living in is a dream and neither of us can stop gazing out of the window at the view. All of our mountain-loving friends would love it and are more than welcome to come and stay. if you want to look it up -- it's called Fern Tree, in Hobart - on the slopes of Mount Wellington. The schools we are working in are amazing! Ivor has a fantastic job at 'Hutchins Boys School. He has 18 in his class and they are all very well behaved. He has just broken up for a three week holiday. My school is great. The children are very well behaved. There are 585 of ... read more

G'day all Arrived in Melbourne and set up camp at a Crystal Brooks Park, a very shaded and quiet park on the outskirts of the city. Next day was spent in the city centre, riding on a beautifully decorated Pakistani style decorated by Pakistani Bus decorators, to celebratethe Commonwealth Games. With the hypnotic Pakistani music playing we could almost imagine we were in Pakistan, even the conductor kept swaying to the music!!! We did the tourist bit wandering around Melbourne, and spent some time watching the very eventful start to the Australian Grand Prix on a large screen in Federation Square. Lots of people watching the race and the atmosphere was great. We visit another China Town and have a Chinese meal (cheap of course) before heading back to camp. Monday morning up bright and early ... read more

So I went to Cadbury Chocolate factory yesterday. The tour was interesting and smelled damn good. I really felt like Charlie in the Chocolate Factory….though I didn’t see any Oompa Loompas. I was tempted to dance and sing and steal candy but I didn’t. Last night I went out and had Kangaroo steak…a lot like venison. Today I went to a wildlife park and saw Kangaroo’s and Tasmanian Devils.. I had lots of pictures but as I mentioned those pictures seemed to just disappear from the XD media. Bullocks is all I say to that. I’m ready for NZ, I go there on Friday.... read more

We are in Tassie and yes you read right it is the last stop before Antarctica don’t think we have ever been this far away from home before Tasmania is a beautiful state full of mind-blowing scenery. Today we took a tour that drove thru picturesque fishing villages down the Tasman peninsula to Port Arthur. A prison for repeat offenders that closed in the mid 1800's After the penal colony closed 800 or so tourists took a boat walked among the ruins, danced in the mess hall and locked each other in cells for fun and a tourist attraction was born. So today in the spirit of things we learned of convict’s lives in Port Arthur which was self sufficient even making their own boots it is also the scene of one of the most ... read more

So I've spent the last 2 days in Hobart. I have to say I really like this town. Its a port city of about 200,000 people... I think. There is fish everywhere... usually fried but its still good. I ate all you could eat sushi last night for $15. Spent the first night I was here in an Irish bar talking to two pilots and contemplating girls and the hair flip, or tucking their hair behind their ears. Ok I was just people watching. Last night I went out for 1 beer.... we all know that is not a good think. Well the bar had a special you could win your beer by beating the Bartender in Rock Paper Scissors. I won 4 of 5 attempts. My friend, the Swede, poor guy, lost all of his ... read more
