I've decided that I've had enough of the working world. So.... I've quit my job to travel for awhile. Until the money runs out or I get tired. We'll see what happens...

This trip to Jordan is best served by the pictures of all the cool things we saw. Pictures of Jordan Wadi Rum When we were first looking at the horses in the stable I told Jessica that I hoped my horse didn't have a name. It had a name, it was something like Halal or something like that. I don't know because it never really responded when I called it by name. I eventually just gave up. What I do know about my horse is that it liked to fall behind so it could run to catch up. I was told not to get out in front or my horse would take off. I am pretty sure that our guide became very scared and nervous when I told him I didn't know how to canter or ... read more

Ok, so this is going to be a short blog. I am just not motivated to detail all of the adventures Jessica and I had in Indonesia. To be honest, there weren't alot of really amazing adventures, just a really great vacation and Honeymoon. Oh first, the link to the pictures on Flickr. Indonesia Pictures So the flight over to Indonesia was on Eva Air, and we got to fly in 747s. First time either of us have flown in a 747. On our flight to Kuala Lumpur we were actually in the nose of the plane and that was pretty cool. The first part of the trip was to head to Gunung Leusur National Park (Ketambe) to go trekking for Orangutans. We saw Orangutans, Gibbons (finally saw a Gibbon), flying squirrels, leeches (lots of leeches), ... read more

The plan was to go to Madagascar and go for a bike tour. Sounds simple enough, but before we get to the fun that was had, let’s look at things that might maybe considered red flags for this trip. * Ever done a bike tour before? Nope, I don't even bike commute. I've done some Mtn. Biking. Shoot the first time I ever put panniers on my bike was the day before my plane ride to Antananarivo. * That is ok, you are going with others right? Nope, just me, independent travel. * What are road conditions? Madagascar is known to have some of the worst condition roads for touring and transportation in general. Also my plan is to bike a road that is notoriously bad even by Madagascar standards. It is unpaved through the rain ... read more

To see what he could see, to see what he can see. Here is the link to the pictures which is what he could see Ok, so I am not a bear and I didn't go over the mountain but I did decide to go around the mountain. I had finally found the time to take one of the hikes I intended all summer, I was going to hike the Timberline Trail around Mt. Hood. Ideally this is approximately a 40 mile trail that circumnavigates Mt. Hood. I have heard it is a grueling trail. You spent most time around 6000' but someone told me there is 9000' of elevation change throughout the hike. This was the case for the trail before the Eliot Branch washout. I'm not really sure what happened here because it was ... read more

Ok, the other day, I climbed Mt. St. Helens. I don't really have anything to blog... its a steep hike through boulders and skree. 4.5 miles one way and about 4500 ft vertical. Ok, I really just wanted to share my pictures. St. Helens Picture Link Um if you want to skip the silly short blog entries, I'm posting all of my pictures on flickr. You can sign up and just follow there if you want. ... read more

We're going to SKOOK

“We're going to Skook.” It really wasn't even our saying. It was story Jessica told me from her first time at Skook. We just stole it and it makes me smile every time I say it. Skookumchuck is a tidal rapid on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia Canada. It is about a 45 minute paddle or hike from the small town of Egmont out to the “rapids.” The rapids are massive standing waves that form at a constriction of the inlet. They are formed by the waters from the ocean flowing in and filling up the inlet during high tide. Sometimes the tidal current is not enough and sometimes it is too much for good kayaking. But when its right.... it is OH so RIGHT. So before I get into the story of the adventure, ... read more

OK, so it wasn't really two bits. I did get a haircut, shave, and a head massage for 380R (about $8). It was the first time I've ever been shaved by a straight blade. I was little nervous, but it was the best shave I ever got. So you really don't care about me getting a shave do ya? I'm sure I did more than that in my 3 weeks in India, so here are few short notes on my trip. The Wedding So The Wedding was the main reason and the catalyst to get me to India over this holiday. My friends Ram (Rammohan) and Anu were kind/foolish enough to invite me to their wedding in India. Before I say anything about the actual wedding I have to thank Ram and his family. They really ... read more

It is the first day of school, and I'm in the cafeteria getting a late lunch. So far I've been on campus for 3 hours and all I've done is go to my pilates class. I don't teach until 6PM on Mondays. Sort of sucks, but not the end of the world. Anyway, the only thing open this late in the afternoon in the cafeteria is the grill. I'm sitting there looking at the menu and watching the lady take orders, and call out the finished orders. It takes be backs... She isn't old enough to be June, but this could definitely be The Worx. So the first week of classes went pretty well I think. I managed to have enough lecture notes for all of my classes and almost ran over in several of the ... read more

I can't believe it. Here I sit in a truck loaded with gear on its way to Lee's Ferry. I'm actually going to kayak/raft the Grand Canyon. I'm filled with way to much nervous excitement. I don't actually know if I will be rowing a gear raft or kayaking. The plan is for Todd and I to take turns rowing and paddling. Who cares, it is the Grand Canyon, and the trip of a lifetime. We have 18 days planned to go from Lee's Ferry to South Cove in Lake Mead, 297 miles down the Colorado River. Before it starts I should introduce the players. Todd and Charlotte Shollenberger - trip permit holders, organizers, and kayaking George Hedrick - Open boater Austin Hedrick - Raft passenger but NOT a bow flower John Hurst - kayaking Ben ... read more

Well I thought I should write and tell everyone about my exciting last couple of weeks. First of is I found a job... that means I'm about to enter the world of responsibility... how scary. Now the good news, my first assignment is to take summer vacation. My job doesn't start until September. I am going to be a full time instructor at Portland Community College. I am going to be teaching about the equivalent freshman and sophomore circuits and EE classes. Should bring back good memories. (Pogue I think there is a joke here for you to write) So now I have summer vacation to deal with. I guess now I'm bragging because I have a month long road trip planned and then 2+ weeks kayaking the Grand Canyon. I guess it is good to ... read more
