Hello All! Zo ... read more

I have realised that time has been passing me by so quickly and I have not managed to get that many blog entries out. I am now 35 weeks pregnant so not long to go before the little girl is born. I do hope it is a girl, in that I have not been able to resist buying lots of pink clothes which will all have to go on ebay if this turns out to be a boy !! I have two weeks left at work - I only do the three days a week so it's not so bad. The worst thing is that I can't sleep. I seem to wake at 3am every night for a few hours............ah well. My sister and family came out a few weeks ago to stay for 5 weeks ... read more

It was a coin flip between Tasmania and Darwin, perhaps even Cairns. In place of parasols, sunscreen and holidaymakers poolside, I have opted for drizzly, pastoral, and off the radar screen. I have to congratulate myself for choosing so wisely. It’s hard to put a finger on it, but I’ve hit my stride in Tasmania. Those familiar ties are back to signal the winter stages of my brief Australian excursion. Every now and then a bitter, liquid film smothers my tongue, another reminder that the days are waning and this is my last stop. I question if I should have foregone the mainland entirely and dedicated more time poking about the perilously narrow country lanes that cut through sheep farms of the Midlands and the low but craggy peaks of the untamed Southwest. Tasmania is no ... read more

04:30 ZULU TIME SOMEWHERE ON AN ISLAND IN THE PACIFIC A TAXI DRIVER WITH THE CODE NAME "THE CONDUCTOR" ARRIVES AT HIS DESTINATION TO PICK UP PASSENGERS UNKNOWN..... Always wanted to start something like that. So 4:30 am is quite early but that is when our taxi to the Sydney airport arrives and our Tasmanian adventure begins. We arrive at the airport early and I sense that their may be some bitterness amongst all present, to my crazy desire to get to the every airport early or even very early...however, after some coffee and food this feeling subsides. We arrived in Hobart and our driver (let us call him Steve for this narrative) went to fetch the rental car while we waited for the bags. Should have been relatively quick considering it was a small plane ... read more

I leave the mainland of Australia for the short 3 hour flight from Sydney to Tasmania's Capital City, Hobart. Hobart is the state capital and most populous city of the Australian island state of Tasmania. Founded in 1803 as a penal colony, Hobart is Australia's second oldest capital city after Sydney. In 2008, the city had a greater area population of approximately 209,287. The city is the financial and administrative heart of Tasmania, and also serves as the home port for both Australian and French Antarctic operations. The city is located in the state's south-east on the estuary of the Derwent River. The skyline is dominated by Mount Wellington at 1,271 metres high. The first settlement began in 1803 as a penal colony at Risdon Cove on the eastern shores of the Derwent River, amid British ... read more

Here we are again into the second month of our Tassie adventure. Our last day camping back at Seven Mile beach, (just out of Hobart), we awoke to an exceptional clear blue sky day 26deg, (such a joy in between the cold and not so blue ones), so what better way to begin the day than with a long leisurely walk along the beach, taking photo’s, collecting shells, -some for our beautiful little granddaughter Lucille and one special one for our Godchild, Laura, for her birthday, later in the month. Rest of the day was spent doing chores, packing away all our goodies from Salamanca, 2 loads of washing, topping up our groceries and making 3 varieties of healthy soups to top up the freezer supplies, for on some of the cooler days ahead. But the ... read more

How busy can life get? I have not written an entry for a while as I have been somewhat busy. We have bought a new house in Taroona which has taken a fair bit of time.......moving, new furniture and the like. We are really pleased with the place. Having lived in what amounts to a cardboard box for the last 18 months, we are now rattling around in what feels like a mansion. We are in a very fortunate position. We live really near town but it feels like we are in the bush. Our drive is very very long and we have a secluded little spot in a cul-de-sac. The views we have from the house are amazing and we actually own the land almost as far as we can see (it's bush !) we ... read more

After a very wet week in Sydney myself and Alex decided to head to Tasmania for a while as it was sunny there. So we packed our bag and left a very wet sydney behind. I stayed at one of Alex mum's old school friends house for 3 week and in that time we rented and car for 4 day and took ourselves to Port Arthur which was a huge prison/village community. We did the ghost tour wich was kinda scary at times especially in the single cell prison. We pretty much ran out of the place. But it made you want to see do much more of the place for the the next day we went back and look at all the old buliding with more understanding of them and it as really interesting. Next ... read more

Day 119 Another slow start to the day, I do think it is because it is cold outside and we have all of the flyscreens closed on the tent so it does not let any light in at all. Last night I was warmer, we had borrowed a blanket from reception, still not quite warm enough, but using Andy’s socks was a bonus. After showers and breakfast we jumped to it packing up camp as we were once again moving on, a day later than anticipated but never mind, it would have been awful packing up in yesterdays rain, especially as we are finding that the bedding gets damp with condensation when the trailer away has been packed away. We had the full annexe up including the walls, but find that it still only takes just ... read more
