Well what a few months it has been. Since my last blog we have been back to the UK where we had a really amazing time catching-up with family and friends. It has been a very special time to see George with his cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles. I did think that, though we might not see them very often, when we do it is a quality length of time. Whilst there, I went to New York with my mum whilst George and Ivor stayed with his parents. We all also went to the Lake District and we had George Christened. Of course, it was also Christmas and New Year too, so we were able to join our families with the festivities relating to those events too. We had been dreading the 30 hour plane journey ... read more

We both woke up early today for some strange reason - and Chris was very thirsty, needn’t explain why! As we were awake we got up, had breakfast and went into Hobart. As it was our last day here we had a bit of a walk around the City. We walked through Elizabeth Mall, through the gardens where you can watch people play outdoor big chess! Then along the Castray Esplanade up through Princes Park and up to Battery Point. We walked down Kelly’s steps back onto Salamanca Place. Geoff and Didi had told us about a really nice bakery so we went looking for that. Found it in Battery Point - delicious looking food. We got a savoury muffin and only one as it was huge! It was a nice hot day, around 30, so ... read more

AUSTRALIA DAY !! We met Charlie in Salamanca Square in Hobart today and then Si and Fi came a little later, around 3pm. We spent the afternoon enjoying the sun with a couple of beers. We moved to a pub on Salamanca Place as they were playing the top 100 songs on Triple J, a radio channel that all the Australians listen to on this day! They were also serving up free sausages! We had a really good day and evening, met loads of people and had lot’s to drink - keeping to tradition!!! Even got a few freebies! ... read more

Today is Sunday and for once we don’t have to get up and pack the tent up! Got up at 10.30, did the laundry and by the time we had had breakfast it had dried - a nice sunny day! We had bought some fresh cherries for breakfast from the market - delicious! We went for a drive for the afternoon. Headed south of Hobart on the Huon Trail. Drove through Kingston, Margate, Snug and Kettering. This is where you can catch the ferry over to Bruny Islands. We took a right turn on the road to Gardeners as we were told the views of Bruny Island were great from up there. Then back down and 10 mins later stopped at Grandvewe Cheeses Farm. We had a few tastings of the home-made sheep cheeses - yum ... read more

It chucked it down all night again! We woke up very wet and had a very dirty tent - but i was warm! I had made a hot water bottle!!! We had to wash the tent before we could pack it up - fun! We had breakfast with Si, Fi and Charlie and left early to get to Hobart as soon as we could. The Saturday Markets were on and we wanted to get there to have a look round. It took 2 ½ hours to get to Hobart. As Fi and Simon were also heading to Hobart, we met up with them later at the Salamanca market. When we had arrived in Hobart the sun was out - woohoo! There were loads of stalls from crafts, cloths, wood, pictures/photos, food and so much more - ... read more

Hobart Mission: To explore Tasmania's capital and venture out nearby for some quality experiences with my husband for a week. First stop: DriveNow For sheer quality, you can't go past a Maui Spirit 6-berth deluxe for around the $200 a day mark. For seven days we were looking around the $1500 mark but it kept us mobile and accommodation was covered all week long. The adventure The Spirit, as we came to know her, was collected in Hobart after a quick, budget flight on Jetstar and we decided to hang around the city for the sensational Saturday Salamanca Markets. Great food, diverse stalls (though several with typical junky tourism odds and sods) and buskers. We took off in the afternoon to explore the Derwent river and took in a cruise. Next day we took our time ... read more

Up at 6am today as catching our flights to Tasmania. It's only an hour and fifteen to get there. We dropped our hire car off at the airport. The Qantas breakfast was awfull, worst meal we have had with them so far! We arrived in Hobbart at 9.50am, picked up our new hire car and drove to a campsite. We went to the Treasure Island Campsite in Glenorchy, just 15mins from the City Centre. It is right on the Huon river and near the Cadbury chocolate factory!! We have noticed that Alot of places are cornish names which is fun comparing the two! Once the tent was up we headed into Town. Stopped at the Information Centre first to get maps etc. We walked around Elizabeth Mall. Had a coffee and lunch, found a book store, ... read more
