Hello! Since the last blog we have basically been in Rockhampton. Rockhampton generally sucked, but there were a couple of ok things to do there. On our first full day we went to the Capricorn Spire which marks where the Tropic of Capricorn crosses Australia, which was fun. Then we went to the zoo, which was pretty cool as we saw a Kangaroo who had a Joey in her pouch (6 legged roo from our last blog), and also Koalas, Crocs, Chimps, Cassowarys and lots of birds. We got a cool picture of a peacock displaying for is, which we'll post up on the next blog. We then spent a bit of time walking around the botanical gardens which is on the same site as the zoo, but decided it wasn't that interesting so we swiftly ... read more

Okay, so I did the surf lessons the next day, and they were so much fun. Me, and my swedish friend, Johanna were amazed at how well we were doing. We stood up plenty a times, and I got my French Canadian friend, Julien to snap pictured of me while doing it. Our lessons lasted 2 and a half hours! The weather turned out to be a tad rainy afterwards, so I decided to cancel the flying plans. My birthday was amazing. I couldn't have asked for a funner day! Matt, my friend from Winnipeg, was giving me digeradoo lessons, when 3 of my british friends surprised me with 2 Tim-Tams, along with 19 tea light candles! It was so nice! I was so sad to leave the next day. It was hard too, because me ... read more

Monday 5. Bye Noosa, hello Fraser Coast (everybody is badged these days). Surf ends, sand starts. Broad sweep of water. Heaps of sand in the distance. Stopped at Maryborough. Quiet. All you can eat pub $6.95. Found newspaper, Chronicle (12,000 circ), approached door - girl exiting. She did story for Subiaco Post. Straight out with recorder and camera. Just mention the website. In Hervey Bay felt strangely bereft. After the excitement and drama of Noosa, this is a flat spread out world. Then I realized I've got a headcold and it's affecting my perceptions.... read more

We arrived in Hervey bay early on Friday morning after taking the night bus from Airlie. I headed to Hervey with Simon, Mike and Ben and we were staying in Hervey until Monday when we were heading to Fraser Island. There isn’t much in Hervey and it’s not really a place for tourists. After checking into the hostel we headed down to the beach and walked along the esplanade. It was really dead and there were only a couple of bars. One bonus was that we only ran into female travelers and after our last couple days on the Tallarock III, Hervey bay was starting to look promising. We sat at a pub and had a jug of beer and we noticed that every car of youths that drove by either stared at us or yelled ... read more

So after a mamoth journey in from Kroombit, we checked into Koala's, and found out that to get the pizzas that we so desperately craved, it would require a 2 hr round trip walk..or pay 5 dollars extra for delivery...not going to happen! So will and i braved it, made it to eagle boys 5 mins before it shut, and got some awesome pizzas! On the way there, several cars drove past with people lugging cans of beer at us out the window...quickly realised Hervey Bay sucked! The next day we played a bit of cricket, good fun, and then met up with the rest of the group who ould be going to Fraser with us. The briefing lasted ages, with us being put in a group of 11 which included the 3 of us, Shane ... read more

Before i start telling you what i've been up to just wanna apologise for the lack of piccies again. I'm in Hervey Bay in the only internet lounge i could find and yet again i'm typing on an ancient machine so i will just have to keep you all in suspense till i get home and get round to printing them all!! Anyhoo back to the good stuff. So i left Airlie on Tuesday and hopped aboard a very full bus. The driver warned us that it was gonna be a long day so we all just got settled and prepared ourselves. We started off by introducing ourselves to everyone on the bus as we would be together as a group for a couple of days. The information the driver asked for was name, where we ... read more

I felt like I was on the Amazing Race. We had a briefing in the morning. 4 groups of 8 to 10 people were going to leave for a 3 day/2 night adventure on Fraser island, each driving their own 4wd car on the sand roads adn beaches...Wow...After an hour briefing, we went to the car central and packed our cars with the tents, the burners, the poles for the tent, the water tank, the coolers....first team ready had the most time left for the grocery. Basically, we had THE best team. We drove to the grocery store, had a total of 15 minutes to do all the shopping. The only thing is that we had to Italians with us who didn't quite understood english...they understood 50 minutes! After 15 mnutes, we were all back at ... read more

Most people come to Hervey Bay to get to Fraser Island - but not me! I leave for Fraser from the much closer Rainbow Beach in a few days - weather permitting. I'm staying in Torquay - one of four towns which make up Hervey Bay. It's a strange but pleasant mix of cafe's and restaurants broken up by the odd grocers or fishmongers. There is a lively feel to the place, and its a small town - but it seems that the bigger brand names are yet to take it over. The day is spent walking along the seafront - up to the marina, a sushi lunch on the sea wall and hand feeding sharks in the small but well stocked aquarium. A good chillout! The next post will be more interesting... I promise!... read more

Today is the final day of fun and frollicks in a favourite car. Having woken to find a council dude prowling the carpark we decided to make our get away. We took our time coming home, a nice convoluted route past Lake Cootharaba...huge but brown...nice! then the Louis Bazzo Drive (!) lead us north to Kin Kin, which I think must be officially australia's quaintest town. Proper, hicksville country town with a very old traditional Hotel and a general store. The school was built in 1911 and is a stunning building. Locals were genuinely shocked at the sight of tourists and declared loudly that we must be mad to come here on purpose. But we liked it. The nearer to home we got the less keen we were to keep going. Parting with the car would ... read more

Well we have moved down the coast to Hervey Bay. We will be taking off for Fraser Island (Fraser Island is the world's largest sand island) for some sand boarding tomorrow morning at 7 am. There is another Cyclone on the way so we are hoping that it will hit after we have fun on the Island. Its got a lot of freshwater lakes for swimming and such. We won't be swimming in the ocean though. Apperently there are insane amounts of sharks - hammerheads, I believe - and as much as I want to wrestle one, Ill wait until I have completed my shark wrestling/hunting training. Luke has his guitar and we have plenty of coconut rum - all the ingredients for a great weekend. We have been having a lot of full on jam ... read more
