Geo: -25.2168, 153.133So richtig wild ist es gestern Abend nicht mehr geworden. Wir haben zwar noch mit Thomas, Karin, Anja, Susanne und Victoria zusammen gesessen und ein Paar (!) Bier getrunken und gequatscht, die große Party ist aber allgemein ausgeblieben.Heute geht es nach dem Frühstück mit dem großen 4W Bus auf die Piste.Wir fahren eine ganze Weile durch den Regenwald und halten für ein paar Fotos an der nicht so beeindruckenden „Stonetool Sandblow" ehe es auf den 75 Mile Beach geht, der wiederum wirklich beeindruckend ist: so einen langen Strand mit weißem Sand habe ich noch nichtgesehen.Wir fahren gerade wenige Minuten am Strand, da ruft unser Guide Damion aufgeregt „Yippie“ und der Bus gerät ins Wanken und ich denke schon wir kippen um. All of the Fraser Island tours depart from Hervey Bay so we spent a night there at Flashpackers Hostel before going to Fraser Island. Flashpackers was an amazing hostel it was run by a man called bill and he really couldn't do enough for us. If we asked him a question and he didn't know the answer he would google it and then tell us straight away. We spent our first night there just talking to him and another couple that were in our room. All of the rooms had just been recently refurbished and all had amazing showers. Australia – Fraser Island – 4x4’s, camping and seven girls in my car! Let the fun and games begin. After spending the night at Rainbow beach I would be heading off the following morning on a tour of Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island. There would be fifty four of us in total forming a convey of eight jeeps. I was put in a group with seven other girls, which for some of you might sound like a dream come true but I soon realised it was going to be challenging when we got in the car and the I-pod’s were plugged into the stereo and the first request was “have you got any Britney!.” Anyway more on this later, back to the tour. 12.2.2012 Fraser Island Some facts about Fraser Island - it is an island off Queensland, the largest sand island in the world and is a world heritage site. Up at 05.30 to leave for Fraser Island in our safari 4x4's. Once off the ferry we put the 4x4 into 4wd for driving on the sand dunes. All the roads were made out of sand and were really steep in places. There was a convoy of 7 4x4's, with two driver guides in two of the cars. We had only been driving for 5 minutes and one of the 4x4's broke down! So we were waiting around for ages, the exhaust had fallen off, but they managed to secure it with some tape. I am not good very geography or stuff related to that, so don't know the exact details about size of Fraser island. Think it is a pure sand island that is 160km long and some 40km wide, correct if I am wrong. Anyways, it is popular place for backpackers because of the natural forests, hikes, lakes, creeks, dingoes, ship wrecks and 4wd driving on the sandy beach. It can be accessed by boat from either Rainbow beach to the south or hervey bay to the north.
