Coogee Beach Travel Blogs

Background: Aboriginal settlers arrived on the continent from Southeast Asia about 40,000 years before the first Europeans began exploration in the 17th century. No formal territorial claims were made until 1770, when Capt. James COOK took possession in the name of Great Britain. Six colonies were created in the late 18th and 19th centuries; they federated and became the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901. The new country took advantage of its natural resources to rapidly develop its agricultural and manufacturing industries and to make a major contribution to the British effort in World Wars I and II. In recent decades, Australia has transformed itself into an internationally competitive, advanced market economy. It boasted one of the OECD's fastest growing economies during the 1990's, a performance due in large part to economic reforms adopted in the 1980's. Long-term concerns include pollution, particularly depletion of the ozone layer, and management and conservation of coastal areas, especially the Great Barrier Reef.

So we have arrived in Sydney, and the apartment is fantastic. I have gone from living in a shoebox to a 2 bed, 2 bathroom trendy place overlooking the sea! The town, Coogee is also great, loads of little shops, restaurants and foody places. The beach is at the end of the road and we are only 20 minutes on the bus to the city. Strangely there are loads of brits. I am also happy because I have managed to buy marmite and the latest copy of Heat magazine - who says I'm hard to please!? So we spent the first [View Full Entry]

1st September 2008 I had an excellent day today celebrating actually having to use sun tan lotion!!! It was one of those days when you are just happy to be alive! I believe it was the first official day of spring today and it didn't dissapoint - it was so lovely and I spent all day outside with a big smile on my face. Met Craig for coffee first off then I went and told my alcoholic boss at the Darling Harbour Bar that I quit and celebrated with oysters and prawns at the fish markets soaking up the sun. Arriving in Sydney I was still feeling pretty down about having left my life in Perth when my plane landed in Sydney and it was time for my next adventure. I collected my bag quickly and walked around the domestic arrivals area for several minutes looking for the OzIntro person collecting me. After my disaster in Perth with Travellers forgetting to collect me, I was not too optimistic. And sure enough there was no one there. So I sat down with my backpack and waited but luckily not for two long as a guy soon walked in and flashed me his [View Full Entry]

Yeah ! Today was our last day in Sydney, we went to the blue mountains and spent the last few hours packing our bags. We're trying to travel very light but it's a bit hard to know what's we'll actually need on the road. In case you're wondering, we'll be carrying about 16kg around the world We subscribed to the frequent flyer's program and hopefully will earn a lot of points with all our flights... We had a barbecue on Sunday and drinks on Monday evening. It was nice to say goodbye to everyone, thanks to anyone that could make it. [View Full Entry]
