Hey guys, It has been many months since I have wrote here but I thought I would add a quick one following an indulgent 2 weeks in the lovely Sydney. Our good friend Conor put us up in his new pad close to Coogee Beach. Thanks mate. We arrived to beautiful blue skies the Thursday before Christmas, immediately hooked up with Ger and hit the beach to try and banish our Irish pastiness as fast as possible. The beach was beautiful, but the sea was freezing. Next stop: Schooners (thats little pints to the rest of you). The schooner stop became a daily event for the remainder of the holiday in fact. Ger of course arrive in perfect Ger style, having skipped a weeping family in the queue to grab the last seat on the plane. ... read more

How ya going guys? Well it’s been a while I know, so this is just a bit of a update as to what has been happening since we left South America. So since Iguazu Falls and it has been all go go go. We went back to Buenos Aires, which was great craic altogether this time round. Different hostel and different people. We left for Oz on 29th as we already had the flight booked, stupidly believing Visa First that we would have a visa by then. The flight over was good with quantas, I drank a little too much though in an effort to calm my nerves, ended up spilling a drink on the woman next to me, then took some super strong sleepers and went a little crazy before falling asleep half hanging out ... read more

After leaving Salta we arrived 23 hours later in Iguazu Falls. Larger than Niagra and situated on the Argentina/Brazil border. It was spectacular. As we woke late and didn't arrive at the falls until lunch time we were worried about getting around the whole thing, so headed to the main attraction first, the Devils Throat. We couldn't believe ours eyes! Just so so much water! Actually made you quite dizzy to look at. There are over 200 falls in total and about 10 lookout points. The buzz of seeing the amazing power of these things coupled with the relief of being able to actually breath probably again (no altitude) we power-walked around the whole site and managed to get to them all, took lots of photos and even had time for the nautical adventurer boat trip. ... read more

It was the other county we (I) was nervous about visiting. We could write a book on the horror stories that we had heard...yet anyone we had spoke to loved the place and nothing bad had happened to them , personally, well apart from a lot of dodgy tummies and liquid loo visits. Bolivia turned out to be a interesting, sometimes very frustrating amazingly beautiful country. I´m glad we made it. We started in Copacabana....and town on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Unfortunatley not as interesting as the name suggests. Pleasant. We hurried on to get to La Paz, the tourist capital. Excited about stories from Mr. Crehan and the infamous book Marching Powder we were looking forward to seeing this place once and for all. We weren´t let down...its a good spot, not a very ... read more

We arrived in Cusco 10 days ago, from Lima. We treated ourselves to a cushy bus again and actually had a good nights sleep on it....thanks to some Xanex of course. Cusco was having a festival for Winter Solstice...to the Inca Sun God. As we have pretty much managed to miss very festival, party, or public celebration of any kind on this continent we were quite excited. Accommodation was hard to come by though. So the festival was lots of dancers and performers in the main square and then a 20 minute walk to some nearby ruins for the main event. Then we were going to party the night away in a local Irish Bar. Great. What we hadn´t planned on is that Cusco is 11300 ft above sea level and although neither of us suffer ... read more

Doubling back

Heres a little easy going chillaxing blog to fill in the bits since the Galapagos. The next one should be a big one again cos we are on our way to Cusco and the Inca Trail. So we flew back to Guayaguil in the south of Ecuadr after the Galapagos. Its a bigger city than Quito, the capital. And once upon a time a pretty dangerous place I believe being a big port. But loads of money has been pumped into it. It has a beautiful waterside promenande now that is gorgeous and crawling with cops so completely crime free. We only had one nigt here so visited it and buzzed about the city during the day. We taught we had our fill of wildlife too until we ventured into a local park and found Iguanaus ... read more

Hola!! Right well this was the one we were waiting for. It cost the most of any single trip we have ever taken, we had been thinking about it for years and it didn´t let us down. We arrived on Baltra Island on Saturday just gone. Good flight but hairy landing as its only a very small island, the plane banks quite sharply and comes into land at the edge of the island just over the sea. And the runway itself is very short and ends in the sea at the far side! We were met by our guide straight away and brought to our rather fancy boat. It was small but very well kept and judging by the others docked beside us every night we did quite well. Very first thing before even boarding we ... read more

3 weeks in Colombia

Published: May 30th 2009South America » Colombia » Cartagena

Hey guys, A couple of weeks ago we made a decision that after meeting so many travellers going to and coming from Colombia and saying how great it was that we would give it a look. Like Chile we had no plans to go there on this trip. Colombia was never a place we ever thought we would be, its a hell of a long way from Belturbet...maybe not so far from Tallaght though eh? So we got some cheap flights and left Quito for Medellin. You may of heard of here as it was the birth place of Pablo Escobar, one of the worlds most famous drug traffickers and at one time the 7th richest man in the world according to forbes magazine. He built an enormous drug empire know as the Medellin Cartel. But ... read more

Hola nos amigos, Hope all are well. We have been doing an awful lot of travelling sincw we last spoke. Making and breaking plans every few hours. I have read the lonely planet so many times I know it off by heart...really ask me anything. So in the end of all the deliberation we decided it would be a great idea to go as far as we can and then work our way back to our final destination i.e. Buenos Aires...that way if we start to run out of time we are in a better position to move quickly. Plus we do all the long hard travelling now. So after Arequipe we hit Nazca for 2 very noisy nigths sleeping, well lying down anyway. We found a nice hostel with a swimming pool...but at 4:30am the ... read more
