19th January-So today we decided to chuck the gross mats out onto the veranda to air as they probably haven't been hoovered for about a year and then cleaned for a little bit before going out to pick up the rest of the horse poop. I did Duke's feet today to give Malou's back a break and she helped me...she doesn't have that much patience with me and I felt really stupid when she showed me how to make a horse pick up it's foot for you instead of you picking it up yourself. But I want to learn so I'll persevere. When Sam arrived this afternoon I don't think he could get away with not saying thank you as we got ALL the poo....I can tell he still finds it really hard to be nice ... read more

Geo: -28.6434, 153.612This morning we had a leisurely start to the day. Our motel room had a toaster and a microwave. We had bought some supplies at Woolworths last night so had yoghurt and toasted muffins with Vegemite for breakfast accompanied by juice and coffee. What more can you want? Our first visit was to Cape Byron, the easternmost point on the continent of Australia. Here we climbed up to the Lighthouse and explored the museum. We then walked down the walkway to the easternmost point but did not venture right down to the promontory as the climb back seemed daunting. The area is very interesting and there were many others looking around the place. From there we drove along the coast towards Ballina. We stopped at Lennox Heads which was an interesting spot. The beach was sandy ... read more

Quick update! After 22 hours of time in the air we made it, well except for Scott's luggage (which is getting delivered today!). We flew Toronto - LA - Brisbane which was 19 hours of time in the air and 3 hours lay over in LA. We had an Amazing Race moment running through LAX as we had to change terminals. We ran one way then back again to make a shuttle to get to our gate. We made it with good time to spare :) The flights themselves were alright. We had some turbulence and were able to catch a couple ZZZ's along the way between viewing movies. We arrived safely in Brisbane with a warm welcome of hugs and smiles. We made the 2 hours drive south to Byron Bay to crash for a ... read more

Geo: -28.6434, 153.612Fletcher was invited to attend the Oceania Athletics Association Congress to be held in Tweed Heads this Friday. We decided to go and spend a couple of days at Byron Bay first. I had never been here although Fletcher had in the long distant past but we thought a couple of days on the North NSW coast might be fun.We flew from Adelaide via Sydney and lobbed into Coolangatta airport at 1pm.After collecting our Nissan Micro hire car we started out on the freeway south. We decided to take the less hurried route and turned off to visit Cabarita Beach.near Bangagor. This was typical of the coast line here but we were fascinated by the number of jellyfish stranded on the sand as the tide was going out.We made a few stops at different ... read more

The most easterly point in Australia. Lighthouse and awesome views of Byron Bay, New South Wales. fabulous beaches. Busy place popular with backpackers from all over the world and a few old hippies! Had breakfast in Kingscliffe, a much more relaxed and chic small town with nice coffee shops and boutiques. Had amazing weather but it broke on the way north and we had another torrential downpour. Hopefully it will pass soon, unlike the storms last Saturday which resulted in flash floods. ... read more

Last day in Brisbane was spent at the market on the pier and trying out reflexology. I bumped into a couple I met on the Whitsundays sailing trip while waiting for the bus, so spent some time chatting to them. General consensus was that Boomerang was brilliant and none of us had heard anything really positive about other boats. 5 hours later (a relatively short trip for here) I arrived in Byron Bay and checked in to Nomads hostel. Much better than the Brisbane one, although am in an 8 bed mixed sex dorm. I've changed states and time zones so am now in New South Wales, 11 hours ahead of UK. Byron is nice, fairly small with just a couple of main streets although busy with schoolies on their break. Nowhere near as much Christmas ... read more

We shared the airport shuttle from Airlie beach to Proserpine (Whitsundays airport) with a group that had just spent 7 tough days cycling from Brisbane to Airlie Beach, a charity fundraising event. The return to Brisbane would take them just over an hour. Given that the G20 was in full swing in Brisbane we were not sure what we would encounter in terms of hold ups, but in the end we saw no evidence of the event. Our Apollo van was a bit bigger than the VW van Carol used to own, in fact you could live in it quite comfortably for a very extended trip, all mod cons included. Good to drive too, so long as it was in a forward direction and in a straight line! To get to Brisbane we were going to ... read more

After working in Sydney for 6 months my best friend and I headed off to travel the east coast of Australia -first stop Byron Bay :) . We had been talking about this trip since college and we had been wanting to do it for years so we were delighted when we finally had enough money saved to do it . We booked our whole trip through Peter Pan travel in Sydney . The staff were really helpful and they had all done the trip before so they had some really great suggestions on what to include in the trip, how long we should stay in each place and also what not to do . We decided to do Sydney up to cairns as we were already in Sydney although it does seem like the majority ... read more

Living in a Tree in Mullumbimby. Yup. In a tree house. We found it on Air bnb. It has no electricity and theres a compost toilet in the back. There are a string of solar powered lights which wrap around the balcony so we can see our way in the dark. There's an open balcony and one room with candles a bed on the floor. We joke about our honeymoon suite. There's also a pool, sauna and an outdoor shower around the corner. The shower is MAGIC, carved out of stone and catches all the early rays of the sun. It's a chunk of paradise. When we wake, the sun rises over the mountains in the backdrop and the birds chirp to start the day. Mullumbimby, who knew? Deva, our host, is a kinesiologist/masseuse/small business owner/dance ... read more
