Just a quick note to share some photos. My guest room has become a disaster zone but the upside is that I've got most of my items packed. I highly recommend the folding/packing things - don't know what they are called but I'll include a photo for you. I had two wonderful going away parties this weekend. Thanks to my family and friends for making my last weekend so much fun. You guys are the best! Here's some background info on Tanzania and Moshi... Tanzania, officially the United Republic of Tanzania, is the southern most country in East Africa. Its mainland borders Mozambique, Malawi, and Zambia in the south; Congo (Kinshasa), Burundi, and Rwanda on the west; Uganda and Kenya in the north; and the Indian Ocean in the east. Lake Nyasa forms part of the ... read more

I am in San Diego, staying with my cousin Jodi and her husband Jason. I love it here! Jodi and I went to Del Mar today....we took her convertible down to the beach. i fly to jamaica on november 1 and am hoping to go spend some time at the internet cafe in town at least once a month. i'd like to keep you all informed as best as i can while i'm gone. i don't usually get homesick, but i'm feeling it right now. strange. since i'm still here. once i get back to all those kids and that busy, fun, challenging, wonderful daily life in jamaica, i know i'll be so happy. it's crazy to look at my present life and realize that what is going on is exactly what i've been dreaming of for so long. and i never thought this would really happen. ... read more

When one of the guys from my crew mentioned his plan to climb a mountain this weekend, I couldn’t hide my enthusiasm and practically begged to tag along. I’ll take any opportunity to get out on a trail in Glacier National Park. Jake hesitated, “Are you sure? It is a 10,000-footer.” I was insulted. Of course I can handle a good steep hike, and yes, I’m definitely in. I had no clue. Friday morning I woke up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. After filling our day packs with water, trail mix, cheese and beer, six of us Montana Conservation Corps volunteers piled into the CRV and headed for Glacier—we were a regular clown show. After our stretch circle and a pit stop in the bushes, we hit the trail. We walked among the pines, and I gobbled in ... read more

Hello! Owing to the popularity of yesterdays entry I present another run down of what I've been up to today! Well last night I went for a meal in an italian part of town, I had gnocchi which was really good, and sat outside between two american women complete with paris hilton size dogs, and an american couple who were really friendly and asked me all sorts of questions about what I was doing and kept on chatting to me which was nice. People are really friendly here which is nice, I think the weather makes people happier than they are in the UK. So I had dinner, and then went back to the hostel, walking as I do past all of the strip clubs (most of which are huge and look surprisingly upmarket) and there ... read more

It's strange how quickly you get use to living in a new country. I have been putting off writing this latest entry as it seems that nothing very exciting has happened as I haven't travelled outside Vancouver. But then I stop and think that some big things have changed. I've spend the last six weeks living and working in Vancouver. I'm living in a 2 bedroom apartment in North Vancouver with a roommate, Adrienne, who is a NZer who has been living in Canada for a while and two gorgeous cats. It's a small apartment in a large complex on the edge of the woods. There's even an black mean looking squirrel living in the trees that likes to stalk the cats. North Vancouver is across the Burrard Inlet from downtown Vancouver. It has about an ... read more
