Historic route 66 We flew in to Las Vegas on 24th December and after a night's stop we drove across the Hoover Dam, stopping briefly to have a look at the 70 year old, 1200 ft long massive construction that stands tall across the Colorado river. We decided to skip the Valley of Fire because the park was closed on account of Christmas, promising ourselves that we would return a day sooner to visit it. But, no promise is worth keeping, unless there's money or food involved, so we went to the chocolate factory on the last day! on a jaunt through the Finger Lakes, then off to Brattleboro followed by a stop at Boston. apparently, we love the snow. then a visit to Abu on the way home, of course. christmas was pleasant, barely a sole around, we've been occupying ourselves by skating, skiing and scavenging for food. those of you familiar with the classic "A Christmas Story", will appreciate the fact that xmas dinner was of the asian sort, sans duck. holiday cheers, kathryn... read more

Hallo Ihr Lieben! Gestern war Heiligabend und es war schon ein recht seltsames Gefühl, nicht bei meiner Familie sein zu können. Um nicht zu traurig zu sein, habe ich mir zusammen mit ein paar anderen "einsamen Seelen" in New York ganz viel vorgenommen. Am frühen Nachmittag war ich zusammen mit Mattias (Praktikant bei Deutsche Telekom, Inc.) in der Metropolitan Opera. Wir haben uns Hänsel und Gretel angesehen und ich war begeistert. Das Stück war sehr modern inszeniert (statt eines Hexenhäuschens sah man z.B. nur ein großes Gemälde mit einem aufgemalten Hexenmund aus dem eine Zunge mit einer riesigen Torte darauf herausragte und das innere des Hexenhauses erinnerte eher an eine große Industrieküche).
