Please bear with us there could be pictures that are of no interest to you. These are for our personal friends Bob and Mary Nelson that lived in Pinos Altos). We woke up to a magnificent morning today. It was 60 degrees at 6:00a.m. and we saw some Gambel’s Quail and Jack Rabbits while drinking coffee. (see pictures) Headed up to Silver City and stopped at the Information Center where they had lots of history related stories for us. The woman on duty talked about the cliff dwellings and copper mines (Grant Co./ Silver City is the richest county in NM). Also we were told to check out the “Old City” that has much restoration in progress. Just outside the center was a log cabin that was donated by Ron Howard, used in the movie ... read more

TODAY WE DISCOVERED INTERCOURSE AND IT IS AS CLOSE TO PARADISE AS YOU CAN GET !!!! Now that I have your attention I am talking about Intercourse, Pennsylvania and Paradise, Pennsylvania. We are in the centre of Amish country. We have tried to find out the origin of the name for the town of Intercourse, nobody seems to know for sure. I like the idea that it was named by a mid-wife to help promote business (that was for you, Joan). We rode all the way here today in a downpour. A 25 degree downpour. What a difference riding in the rain when you are warm. We spent the day laughing with each other and enjoying the ride rather than just complaining how cold we are. It also helped that we were leaving the filthy RV ... read more

Howdy, Howdy! I've missed all of you since our time together in Brimfield so thought I'd drop by to say "Howdy". Hope your summer is progressing nicely and you are enjoying each day. We've had plenty of rain this month so really appreciate it when ol' Mr. Sun decides to spend the day. Everything is lush and green and bountiful but enough is enough. Bring on the "rays"! We have stayed busy since Brimfield. Of course, emptying our trailer is a big job and Cory did it all alone. I don't think we are having as much fun as we used to with this hobby of ours. We used our empty trailer to get a new mattress for our upstairs bedroom which Nate (our Mennonite contractor) remodeled while we were in Florida. We found out that ... read more

Doug and I went to Gilmore Motor Museum for their annual Vintage bike show. http://www.gilmorecarmuseum.org/index.php Wow, what a place! We got there early, nice day but with the forecast for rain later. Not many bikes at this point so I got my first taste of the quality and standard of presentation by going onto the Ford building. Yeah, that's right! A separate building housing just old Fords! And many other buildings dedicated to one make. I had been told that the museum had many barns. Well, these were barns in the same way as a $5million condo is a house! More on the cars later. With the showground filling up, we made for the custom bike area to meet up with some of the guys from NGW. There were three members bikes entered,: Greg with the ... read more

...we woke ourselves up early to spend a few last hours on the single tracks/, pack up camp, and find our Durango sticker for the trailer! We set out on the road at about 12:30 and we're still plugging away! Durango is in the south western corner of Colorado and we are *almost* across the state. It's been a slow ride since unfortunately all the main highways are in the northern portion of the state- and we have a sick copilot who has needed many "business" breaks! It's like traveling with a kid- quick find a spot to pull over!!! We are about 20mins from hitting route 70 which should take us a little quicker across Kansas. jo is at the wheel and a little anxious to get off these back road highways and find us ... read more

Las Vegas to Death Valley. Up and away bright and early from the Pink Flamingo. No breakfast as the queue at the café next to the lifts was too long and we didn’t want to lug the cases any further than that. Checked out, after only a little queuing and I waited with the cases while Bob brought the car round from the multi-storey car park, which was free, one of the few free things in Vegas as it happens. No problem at all getting out of town on the freeway, in fact surprisingly easy. A spectacular drive through this barren area of Nevada. Mostly without a covering of vegetation the earth is stripped and bare showing its multi-coloured layers of rock. Quite amazing in some places that anything manages to grow at all but most ... read more

After breakfast and a long chat with Kimberley at the Lodge we set off for Lake Tahoe. It was another blistering hot day and more lovely treelined, shady roads. We stopped briefly in Quincy for a drink and another quick look for leads for the GoPro, with no success and headed out of town. Jim seemed to be taking it very steady, and stopped and asked if I agreed that it was a particularly bad road surface. I didn't! He checked both tyres were ok and set off again for a brief 2 minutes before stopping again. The bike was broken!! Same rear drive gearbox had failed. Jim had noticed that we had passed a bike shop coming out of town, so I sat in the shade while he took my bike and disappeared off. 20 ... read more

Troy and I arrived in Denver to a very hot, hot day. Surprisingly it was 97 degrees. We got our car car, a Nissan is not a Lexus, by the way and headed up the eastern side of Wyoming. This area of Wyoming is green and the landscape is rolling hills covered with outcroppings of grey rock. Prairie dog towns with vigilant sentinels standing watch dot the area. Lewis and Clark named these little critters and sent a specimen to Jefferson. Their companions in the field are antelope also sighted by Lewis and Clark. In the quiet little town of Guernsey we saw the ruts of the Conestoga wagons that traveled along the North Platte River. The difficulties of this journey was evident by the gravesite of Lucindy Rollins. She is remembered by a monument, but ... read more

Left the “City of Rocks” at 8:00AM MDT and 83 degrees. Off to Tombstone Arizona. Crossed the Continental Divide, elevation 4585 feet. Crossed into Arizona at 9:50AM DMT, traffic was light. There were barren Western mountains all across the horizon. We heard a weather alert for very low visibility due to blowing sand and dust devils. 98 degrees at noon with a high of 102 today. We arrived Kartchner Caverns State Park at 12:15PM MDT. Arizona knows how to do State Parks; this is the loveliest State Park we have ever been in. Hundreds of Chinese Tallow Trees all through the park. A few pictures will be with the blog but many more tomorrow from Tombstone and the “OK” Corral. lol ... read more
