Hi all! So, I woke up in a very bad mood on Saturday morning - not helped by the fact it was grey and raining! I was cheered up, however, when Barbara and Steve offered me a bagel - it was a chocolate marble one from a local bagel store, and it was totally amazing. My faith was restored and I set off for the long drive to Boston. I got to Alewife subway station, and parked up and took the train to Park St., Boston. There, it was raining too, but undeterred, I started to walk the Freedom Trail. There's an app for the iPhone for it. Basically, it's this red line on the pavements that you follow and it takes you around all the historic sites in Boston - the app tells you more ... read more

Friday May 10th, 9:24pm 100 miles east of Boston That might have been the longest two days of my life. Let me see if I can remember everything that happened. I never did find a good place to sleep at the airport so I was up all night watching movies and surfing around the intraweb. The chairs at Logan international airport might be the worst I have ever sat in! I hailed a cab at 8:30am this morning and headed for my new house. There was very little traffic so we got there at about 8:45am. I let Bryce know I was early and he told me he was still stuck in immigration, and it was Coast Guard inspection day so everything was running behind. That meant I got to sit outside with the cruise ship ... read more

Breath taking day spent in Yosemite National Park. Between the ragging streams, magnificent waterfalls and giant granite rocks it was hard to decide what we all liked best. We hiked about 2.5 miles throughout areas of interest in the park. My new knee got a good work out today and held up just fine. The walking stick I bought came in handy on the steep graded trails. We returned to camp just in time to watch the evening dance competitions going on in the Pow Wow... read more

Went to everglades yesterday, got back late, will post entry later I noticed I put day 7 as day 6 and left out the real day 6. I put all of the days in the right order and added the missing day. That's what happens when you post after drinking. Pictures - on the road, the days I did have time, I wasn't able to upload them. Here in Key west, I haven't had time (sober time anyway). I will try to upload pictures before I leave the Keys on Wednesday. Day 8 May 11, 2013 The car we rented was a convertible, so we rode up the keys to Everglades National Park with the top down. The temperature was low to mid 80’s and mostly sunny for most of the ride up the keys. After ... read more

DAY 19: MAY 10, 2013 Me and my pal, Mark Thobe, joined the army on the buddy system. It meant we could be assigned to the same basic training company. We were joined at the hip though and ended up in the same squad. We went off together for advanced training at Fort Leonard Wood as heavy equipment operators. We weren’t supposed to be together anymore but we ended up in the same squad again. We were having breakfast one morning at a table with Lomax Wesley. He was a good old boy from Alabama. We sat down and started in putting milk and brown sugar in our mush. We thought it was Cream o’ Wheat. Lomax was astonished. He said, “what are you fellas doin’ to them grits. That ain’t the way you ... read more

We've done it - the Grand Canyon. We travelled from Sedona to Flagstaff -where we stopped at a Downtown Diner for pancakes and french toast and blueberries with half a gallon of maple syrup- we then took the Old Fort Valley Road, avoiding a busy highway....a great route with beautiful pine forests and snow toped mountain views. When we stopped at Valle we filled up the gas ( see I am talking american already)and got our Grand Canyon Park pass and so at the entry gate to the park we could sail on through pretty quick. I did book our campsite ages ago ( just as well as they are all full) and so we got straight into it ...parked up and in no time armed with shuttle bus maps we got going for the South ... read more

Despite my best intentions to write once a week, nine days have elapsed since last I sat with you all to tell my tale. At last, here I am on a Friday afternoon, having gotten off work an hour early today. So, my friends, the tale continues… I have now made it through two full weeks of training, and am ready to take off the training wheels, which run in circles inside the brain in this context, and move around more. The trainings have been wonderful; packed with info, relevancy, humor, and bonding, but nonetheless, we have been sitting in the same folding chairs for ten days, and being the breed of people that are drawn to the Alaska wilderness to share our passion of it with the public, I think we are all raring to ... read more

We are chock-full, jam-packed and full to the brim. We are ready! Cory has packed, unpacked and repacked our trailer trying to find room for everything we want to take. He mumbles and mutters something each time I drag out another special item to add to our inventory. It doesn't sound like "oh, goodie!" Our RV is also packed full so we may have to sleep on the dash until we unload on Sunday. We leave this Saturday for our show in Brimfield, Massachusetts. This is a huge show: 5000 dealers on 20 fields which line Rt. 20 in the town of Brimfield. The dealers come from all across the USA and shoppers come from all over the world. The field we set up on is called The New England Motel field. I think there are ... read more

DAY 17: MAY 8, 2013 West Virginia is designed to be traveled north to south; east to west it is bitch kitty. The eastern part of the state is far more scenic. I have stopped tonight after a drive of 220.4 miles at the Greenbrier Lodge in Marlinville, WV. It is slap on the bank of the Greenbrier River and the river is at an alarmingly high stage. Bill would like it here if we don’t all topple over in our sleep and drown in muddy water. They have good eats downstairs and there is a four piece hillbilly string band keeping things lively. I had a dish of their “West Virginia Original” for supper. It was grilled kielbasa, potatoes, onions, green peppers and mushrooms. I hope to survive long enough to cook it ... read more

We made pretty good time today driving through the beautiful state of West Virginia and the rig did well in the mountians...though a bit slow on the one of the longest hills. Traffic was wonderfully light once we got off I81 onto I64. We stopped for lunch at the WV welcome center and had pulled pork sandwiches and relaxed for about an hour. I should have taken a nap, because right after lunch both Mi Hyon I were a bit sleepy, not enough to stop but enough to slow down a little. That lasted about an hour and then I was OK. The KOA in Ashland is a really good overnight park and the gave a military retiree discount. Mi Hyon and I had a coulpe beers and some of the best beef stew ever! The ... read more
