I snuck up to Oregon for a few days and was only able to see a few of my friends, Andrea, Bender, Corrine, and Dulce. Sorry to all of you that I missed. The pictures are very limited because I forgot to bring my camera for all but Cannon Beach and Multnomah Falls. Enjoy! ... read more

Day One - Day Four We arrived in Seattle on Saturday 28th August at 11.30am Seattle time. Unfortunately our bikes didn't arrive until 5.30pm. We stayed in a motel as we didn't have time to put the bikes together and cycle to the campsite before it got dark. Sunday 29th August we arrived at Dash Point Campsite 25 miles from Seattle (15 miles from the airport). Monday 30th August we sorted our gear and walked around the campsite which is set in acres of forest. Tuesday 31st August we visited Seattle. What a fantastic place. Even though it was heavy rain and freezing we could appreciate how cool this city was. Rest days over it was time to make a move and by Wednesday 1st September 2010 we were ready to set off. Day Five Seattle ... read more

The day began pleasantly, as we had breakfast in our room by the window with the ocean view. We finished up the last of the Orcas Island blackberries that we had been schlepping with us in our ice chest, and enjoyed the memories they evoked. Then onwards through Washington into Oregon. We drove through Aberdeen, where we had intended to stay last night, and it actually made Ocean Shores look like a good choice! Once we crossed the Astoria-Megler Bridge (the longest continuous truss bridge in North America!), we stopped at Fort Stevens State Park near Astoria. We checked out the 1906 wreck of the "Peter Iredale" on the beach and climbed around on the Russell Battery, one of several gun emplacements in the Fort--a tribute to Dave's childhood family vacations where every fort and historic ... read more

... read more

I woke up this morning, it was still early. Regina is emailing, so I decided to go for a run. When I left the motel room, I was surprised how cold it was. Only 64 F in Hood River, OR. I ran anyway, although not too far. Quite a while later we went into town for breakfast and found a nice breakfasty place. Egg Florentine and a breakfast skillet. By the time we were done, it was already 10:30. But we had only a 2-3 hour drive ahead of us, so no big deal. We passed Portland and arrived (after a little cold sweat because I forgot to get gas, and we are in the middle of the mountains; but everything worked out fine) in Cannon Beach. Regina had booked us a Motel right at the ... read more

July 22nd Columbia River Gorge,OR to Girabaldi,OR We finally saw it-the Pacific Ocean! I went down and touched the water just to say I did! We drove from Columbia River Gorge to the northern part of the Oregon Coast at Cannon Beach. Our first look-and it is so different from the Atlantic we are used to. It is quite wild and untamed. The fog was rolling in and it was gray but beautiful. It is so weird to see mountains that come almost right up to the beach. There are huge rock croppings that are right on the sand. We say Haystack Rock.I think it's the biggest monolith(?) in the US? Another unusual thing is that there are not many people. Back east the beach would be packed. We walked a little around Cannon Beach and ... read more

July 4th 2009 I can certainly say we picked the wrong day to visit Cannon Beach. It was the July 4th long weekend, my sister was in town and my parents were leaving in a week and it was 85F in Portland so we thought what the heck and set out. We dressed like one would when you head to the beach on a sunny day. Who the heck knew that Cannon Beach, a mere 1 and a half hours away would have totally different weather conditions and I had to check the wind directions. It was chilly and windy and very very cold So much for V’s tent and Frisbee. We did not do justice to the visit. Next time around, I will check the weather and also plan the visit better so we can ... read more

Heading out from Leavenworth, we took the scenic route that took us past the spectacular Mt Ranier and through central Washington. The drive was much longer than we anticipated but most agreed (at least Dad did) that it was well worth it. Soon we were on familiar roads along the Oregon Coast and like usual, the beautiful beaches drew us in. Parking our trailer, everyone was quick to want to explore Cannon Beach and search out favourite ice cream and salt water taffy treats (those freebies are always welcome and addicting - oohh, just one more). We did some exploring that we hadn't done in previous years including hiking down and exploring through Ecola State Park. The water is cold but that doesn't hold back the Connor kids as they played in the surf for hours. ... read more
