After a restful night at the Best Western at Agate Beach we started the day with a tour the Oregon Coast Aquarium. I touched sea stars and we walked through a 200 foot underwater tunnel with 3 different habitats. The seals were getting fed and the otters quickly became my new favorite animal. They way the lazily swim around on their back made me envious I wasn't in the water with them. Time for lunch and we finally got to eat at Mo's. There are several and we chose the original with the garage door where some lady drove through the wall 50 years ago so Mo just put in a garage door and painted a picture of her driving through it. World famous for their clam chowder and it was good. We them proceeded up ... read more

Cannon Beach! with Aubrey, Crystal, Sonora & Austin This trip was definately unplanned, but a blast. Only two hours away from where I live, it is a beautiful place to just go and take in the beauty of God's creation. Haystack Rock is definately magnificent in all of its huge-ness and splendor and creates an atmosphere that is truly unique. I needed to go to the beach - to breathe in the cool September sea breeze air and feel the ice cold ocean stir sand across my feet. It was an escape from my ordinary, which made the trek there worthwhile. Spending it with cousins also made it enjoyable. We went to Dooger's Restaurant after we watched the beautiful sunset and I had a grilled cheese sandwich. Tasty! The night was perfect. I love Oregon with ... read more

We spent the four days over Labor Day weekend (Friday August 31st to Monday September 3rd) on the Northern part of the Oregon Coast. Neither of us had ever visited that area, but I had heard numerous wonderful things and we wanted to check it out for ourselves. Since it was only about a four-hour drive away, we thought it would be the perfect getaway to take advantage of Labor Day weekend. Day 1 (Friday, August 31st) We left early on Friday morning around 9:00. It was sunny and warm out, which always puts a smile on my face, but especially so on vacation days. Our first stop along the way was at a restaurant called Country Cousins in the city of Centralia, Washington. I had eaten here previously when I was 15 with my Grandpa ... read more

Early morning we crossed the Columbia River again as we headed down the Oregon Coast, first Seaside, then on to Ecola State Park. More pleasant walking and scenery and hardly anyone around. Cannon Beach is well known but we were pleasantly surprised by the village. By now the weather was improving and we moved south to Oswald West State Park where there are great views of Manzanita Beach. We didn’t have time to climb Neahkahnie Mountain as intended where, we believe, there are great views. I’d lost a day in planning the trip and having booked all the hotels, we had to be in Portland by night. On to Tillamook and Cape Meres State Park, then a good drive to Portland which we hit at peak rush hour. We certainly learned a lot about Portland's road ... read more
