ordering a burger in Columbia river Gorge July 22nd Columbia River Gorge,OR to Girabaldi,OR
We finally saw it-the Pacific Ocean! I went down and touched the water just to say I did! We drove from Columbia River Gorge to the northern part of the Oregon Coast at Cannon Beach. Our first look-and it is so different from the Atlantic we are used to. It is quite wild and untamed. The fog was rolling in and it was gray but beautiful. It is so weird to see mountains that come almost right up to the beach. There are huge rock croppings that are right on the sand. We say Haystack Rock.I think it's the biggest monolith(?) in the US? Another unusual thing is that there are not many people. Back east the beach would be packed.
We walked a little around Cannon Beach and then got in the car and continued driving south along the coast. We stopped a few times to look and then ended up in Girabaldi, Or for the night in a little private RV place. Now when we say little and private that is the truth. not a bad place to eat! Check out the mountains in the background. side and a woodmill on the other. They worked all night long at the mill. We manged to find a little bar that was open and had a drink and then returned for the night. we didn't see anyone else at the campsight-just campers and RV's that looked like maybe they are there for the long rub-maybe fisherman who come in on the weekend. But they had cable TV!
