August 9th Navarre Beach,FL so we TOES IN THE SAND! We woke up in the Walmart parking lot(well actually in the RV, not in the actual parking lot! hahaha!). Overnight it had rained like the devil. I thought a hurricane was coming! We packed things up and headed for the beach. We decided not to go back to Pensacola Beach because it was just too crowded so we headed east. We stopped for breakfast at Waffle House after getting ourselves out of quite a pickle in the tight one way parking lot. Phil did an awesome job! The Waffle House was right across the causeway bridge fron Navarre Beach touting itself as the best kept secret in Florida so that's where we went. It is a neat little beach town with mostly condos and not much ... read more

August 8th Brewton, AL SEEING THE RELATIVES We woke up from the rest stop welcome center and finally got hold of the RV people. After all that they just told us to ride down the road to the nearest gas station and put air in the tire so that's what we did and it worked! It's been holding air ever since. We drove a couple hours to Brewton, Alabama. Brewton is where Phil's dad grew up and many of his relatives still live. Phil called his Uncle Jack and after we took showers in the Walmart parking lot(well in the RV not actually out in the parking lot!) We headed on over to see Uncle Jack and his wife Kathleen. We first stopped by his dad'sold high school. It's not actually the same building as when ... read more

August 5th, 6th & 7th MAKING OUR WAY HOME August 5th Moab, UT to Albuquerque,NM OK. We have decided that we need to start heading back home. We miss everybody too much! Phil put on his driving cap and we got on the road. The first day we drove from Moab, UT to Albuquerque,NM via Colorado. We were pretty much on a missiononly stopping a few times to stretch our legs. I was comfortably hunkered down with my pillows and a book. We did stop in Durango, CO and walked around a bit. It is another adventure town but not quite like Moab. It is a little more upsacle and yuppyish. We stopped for the night about 10:00 in a lovely Walmart parking lot. They work out great when you are getting in late-and you get ... read more

August 4th Moab, UT WHITEWATER RAFTING! We got up early in Green River, UT and called to make reservations for a whitewater rafting trip. We figured since it was the middle of the week we would have no problem being able to book a trip. Geez, were we wrong! We wanted to do the combined whitewater/horseback riding trip but that wasn't available. We were however able to get the last two spots on the 11am trip down the Colorado River. So we made our way to Moab. Moab is a completete outdoor adventure town and lays claim to be the mountain bike capital of the world. Everywhere you looked you saw outfitters for whitewater rafting, jeeps, hummer rides, horseback riding, climbing. You name it they have it! What a cool town. It's just ful of cool people ... read more

August 3rd Bryce Canyon National Park, UT We got up pretty early and since we were staying right outside the park entrance we were able to take the park shuttle up into the park. Our plan was to do another hike today. I think the cowboy hat I bought was my best investment on the entire trip. It is so hot out and the hat does wonders to keep the sun off. I may continue be a cowgirl when I get home! Bryce Canyon is not quite like anything we've seen so far. Just so interesting you can't take your eyes off of it. It is a pretty deep canyon so vivid red in color. Growing among the deep red rock is dark green trees dispersed about. I'm not sure how they grow as I've not ... read more

August 1st Williams, AZ to Kanab,UT This was a driving day. We took our time getting up, mozying around, readying the RV and taking off for Utah. Our goal tomorrow is to hike Zion National Park. We decided to treat ourselves and stay in a hotel for the night. Not sure how much of a treat it was- it was a Roadway Inn. The girl said she'd give us a good deal. It was the room with the big TV but the TV wasn't working so we'd have to use the little TV! So that's what we did, but it was clean and had a nice shower so it was all good. We walked the town that night. Had beer and an appetizer at a cowboy bar surrounded by Europeans! It is amazing how many Europeans ... read more

July 31st HIKING THE GRAND CANYON!!! What an awesome day! WE DID IT! We hiked into the Grand Canyon and back out again. It about kicked my butt but it was oh so worth it! We got up pretty early and had a good breakfast at the campground before heading back up to the park. Our plans were to hike the Bright Angel Trail. We wanted to go 3 miles down into the canyon and then 3 miles back out. The trail is actually 9 miles down to the bottom but they do not want you to do that all in one day-and I can see why. The weather was reasonable-about 86 degrees but it gets hotter as you get lower into the canyon because of the heat radiating off the rocks. The walk down was ... read more

July 29th We got up and left Las Vegas late. What a surprise! We were moving a little slow after our night on the strip! We stopped a few times along the way to check out the local Walmart and Ross Store. I can smell a Ross from 100 miles away! We traveled thru the desert. What a hot dry miserable place the desert is. You couldn't pay me to live there! We arrived in Williams, AZ late where we had our reservations. We almost hit a baby giraffe coming in-OK, it was an elk, but it was huge! It's legs came up to the windshield! They have pictures in the local paper of cars that have hit elk and warn people-"Don't swerve-just hit them dead on!" The KOA was quite dissaponting. It was under renovation, supposed ... read more

July 2th & 28th San Francisco to Las Vegas On the road again. As usual ,we got a late start and it took us longer than we expected to reach our destination. We finally made it to Las Vegas, NV! Did you know that there is a KOA campground right on the strip at the Circus Circus Casino? Neither did we but we found it and there we were parking our RV on the Las Vegas strip! Bizarre! We hooked everything up and then went to check out the town. It is hot here! We were freezing last night in San Francisco and now the air conditioner on the RV can hardly keep up with the heat! We walked about half way down the strip, had a few drinks, took in the sights, played a few slots(won $15=big ... read more

July 26th I LEFT MY HEART IN SAN FRANCISCO Ok, we had this great idea. We were going to go to San Francisco. We continued to travel down the California Coast. Lori couldn't resist the ocean calling so we pulled off to the side and I took off my shoes and went into the surf. IT WAS COLD!!!! Colder than the Atlantic in the winter time. It is so raw and wild. What a thrill although Phil thought it was crazy! Our great idea to go to San Francisco continued. We crossed the Golden Gate Bridge-too cool!We found a great RV park right next to Candlestick Park where the San Francisco 49ers play. Only problem was the directions took us thru downtown San Francisco. Bad idea. It was quite hairy! We finally made it to the ... read more
