World Trade Center hedder.

And so the adventure begins. I’m sitting in Newark airport awaiting the departure of my 14 hour flight to Delhi and the start of what will hopefully be an amazing life experience—6 months living in Nepal. I feel like since the day I received the email from Kathmandu that I had been awarded a Fulbright Fellowship that I have been anticipating this day. And now it’s hard to believe it’s actually here, and my 150 lbs. of luggage are on some conveyor belt somewhere in this massive airport waiting to be loaded on a huge plane. Saying goodbye was difficult. I spent a weekend in PA saying goodbye to family and had 2 dinners (one a surprise) with friends to celebrate my departure. I am so lucky to have so many people who will miss me ... read more

Well the journey to the airport was a bit of an adventure. In typical packman form, we turned on AM radio to see if there was any traffic on the way to the airport from my parents house. None. Except for on the East-West Turnpike extension which doesnt affect us going to the airport....that is until I missed the turnoff!! I was only maybe 20 feet past the exit and could have reversed but with 18-wheelers coming on I decided to go straight and try to make a U-ey somewhere. Well that somewhere ended up putting me in almost an HOUR of traffic! I hit the only traffic mentioned on AM radio, of course. NEAT. good news is I made it to the airport in time. Barely. Flight was uneventful. Which is always good news these ... read more

I was up for 24 hours before I even started this trip. You know how sometimes you just don't think things through? When I bought my plane tickets many months before, a 5:30 am flight sounded like a great idea. However...a 5:30 am flight leaving from DIA this morning translated into needing to be at Stapleton to catch the DIA bus by 4:00 am, which meant leaving my humble apartment by 2:30 am. By the time I had run, fixed my bag, packed my bag, run to K Soopers for food to pack, and watered my plants, it was 1:30 am. I spent the remaining hour watching Arrested Development - even funnier when you're delirious. So keeping in mind that I haven't pulled an all-nighter in a long time (was Clinton in office?), I show up ... read more

Yes, this has been part of a major turning point for me. The opportunities I've come across, first out of necessity of distraction from personal stress and relief from my old work routine, have become an expanded professional project. I've been able to be figure several things out along the way, not everything, but many things, which is very good. But first, I've got to get home. My plane left McCarran at 10:15 p.m. last night, and arrive in Atlanta around...who knows, around 6 a.m.? Then I waited for three hours, as it was our layover time. I picked up an interior decorating magazine. I craved pizza and I found some, but it tasted terrible. I curled up in the chair near my gate and tried to sleep. It was so cold. Other people were stretched ... read more

This isn't going to be much of a blog because it would sound more like complaining than statement of fact. Suffice it to say that after spending a couple of days in Flemington, NJ for a business meeting, from the time I arrived at Newark International Airport (EWR) until I arrived home in Woodstock, GA took just shy of 15 hours due to ATC (Air Traffic Control) and weather delays. At least I arrived home safely, AND with my checked bag. Thank you, Delta. I took a few photos while I sat and waited in Concourse B.... read more

There are several things that alert a traveler that she is about to embark on a very interesting journey: 1) When the last glimpse of American life that she sees is in Newark International Airport. 2) When she is subjected to airport security on three separate occasions on the way to the gate, then told that her sweatshirt is too baggy to ensure passenger safety. 3) When she is cowering on the floor near the entrance gate, surrounded by women in saris, and trying not to get trampled when there is stampede to enter the flying prison that will keep them all captives for the next seven hours, thirty minutes, and 23 seconds. Not that she is counting, of course. They say that, when it comes to airlines, you get what you pay for. A wealthy ... read more

So I left early this morning around 8 AM to catch a train from Washington, DC to New Jersey's EWR (Newark Airport) for my flight to Rome Italy! On my way to the airport I've already met some interesting people who were interested and excited about my upcoming trip. When I arrived in Newark Airport, I met up with my friend PJ. It was his 30th birthday and so we got a chance to hang out for a little while in nearby NYC and grab some lunch before my flight took off at 4:40 PM. Well, I'll be spending the next 7 hours on the plane, (which will feel more like 13 to my body) and will write more once I arrive in Roma! Ciao! Makeeya ... read more
