Day 61 - Day of departure
Published: November 12th 2011North America » United States » New Jersey » Newark » EWRAnd so there we have it. Today is the day I leave. I made a huge thank you to all the people I met on my trip. They made it much more enriching for me. The world worth experiencing is with the people you meet. In my case, some I already knew from the internet. But I can sure say it was a privilege to meet others as well. I left my hostel at 11am after a shower. It took me quite some time to get to Newark airport, but that was fine; I allowed myself plenty of time. It’s better to arrive early and wait for ages, than to miss your flight. I took advantage of my greyhound bus pass for the final time. I basically got a free transfer to Newark, a half-hour ride ... read more
Day 1 - Sunday January 17th 2010, 7:54pm EST: I’m currently in the air on my way to Australia! First stop, LA to then board my Qantas flight to Sydney! It’s pretty boring being on a plane alone, knowing you can’t sleep or the jet lag will end up killing you! So, I took out my little mini laptop and decided to begin the blogging process! Have you ever decided to do something and then once it comes time to actually do it you realize you’re actually crazy? I began to think that as I was walking to my gate…alone! Obviously I’m excited but it is a little overwhelming to think that in about a day I will be in Sydney…alone…trying to find a place to live and a job so that I can afford to ... read more
Sightseeing at the Newark Airport
Published: October 31st 2009North America » United States » New Jersey » Newark » EWRYeah. I know. But it's the closest I've come to NY so I'm making the most of it. Was not expecting the muggy weather though...I had to peel off 3 layers. Yuck. 71 degrees and 70 percent humidity. We already checked out a few shops and the fast food that this airport has to offer, I'm killing time online while Warren is off drinking a beer somewhere. I'm going to try a Nathan's hotdog before I leave. I know the rest of our trip will be much more exciting than this but I definitely want to come back and see the REAL NYC!! Again, happy halloween everybody. I'll update our first day while some of you are nursing your party hangovers. LOL =) ... read more
Okay I'm ready to go to India ... I think.
Published: October 17th 2008North America » United States » New Jersey » Newark » EWRWhile I sit as patiently as possible at the airport, I realize that I have done pretty much all that I can do to prepare for this trip. I've read books on India, studied Hindi, researched provinces I will be visiting, and brainstormed ideas to help with my placement. However, from what I have heard and read, nothing can really prepare you for India. I have a feeling that all of my current expectations will be thrown out as soon as I land. After reading and talking with people who have travelled to India, I am embarking with thoughts of landing into a mess of people and an overwhelming smell. I'm taking a 14 hour overnight flight which lands in Delhi Saturday at 8:15 pm local time (10:45 am Atlantic). Sunday we have orientation all day ... read more

This time I am off to Sweden with a lovely splash of Denmark! Every time i have told someone i am going to sweden they give me ... read more

Pining for the Fjords, A Prologue
Published: July 30th 2008North America » United States » New Jersey » Newark » EWRMonkey has really been on my case about Norway, ever since last year's cruise. The nagging became completely unbearable once we got back from the Transatlantic in April. He wants to see more whales, and he's still upset he didn't get to see a puffin last year in Iceland. So, I gave in and booked us on a slightly shorter version of last summer's "Lands of Fire and Ice" cruise on board Queen Elizabeth 2. OK, I'm also happy to be going. The cruise itself is incredibly relaxing. we always meet lots great people, and monkey really enjoys when people make a fuss over him. So, here we are, sitting in the Continental President's Club at Newark New Jersey's Liberty Airport, waiting for the 777 that will fly us to London Heathrow this evening. About an ... read more
Europe 1: A prelude to our trip
Published: July 4th 2008North America » United States » New Jersey » Newark » EWRI watched a movie called “European Vacation”, when I was a kid in India. It is the comedy of a fat American family with boisterous kids who do their best to catch the flavor of Europe, but just don't know how to be good tourists. They have difficulty adapting to new cultures and cannot drive small European cars nor speak local language. After a number of encounters and adventures, they manage to successfully complete their trip. That movie showed Europe in its entirety and made such a mark on me that I vowed to visit Europe when I was older. I have always dreamt of the perfect European vacation. To spend considerable time in each place and get soaked in the history, art, literature, architechture and culture that most of the great European cities offer; as ... read more
World Trade Center hedder.
