Have to make this quick because we are leaving in a few hours for Nashville. I will try to put up more later but for now I am going to try and put a bit of video I was messing with last evening instead of packing.... read more

Had a really enjoyable day today. Last night I had a college reunion which was a lot of fun. I lived in Minneapolis for about a year over 10 years ago now, and the area has changed much since I lived here. Decided today to go see some of the sites and refresh my memory. Didn't have a lot of time because of other commitments but wanted to see some of the churches that I vaguely remembered from when I lived here. The day was a little cool but still no snow which was nice! First, drove over to St. Paul to take a look at St. Paul's Cathedral. St. Paul's sits on a hill near the Minnesota Capitol. It's apparently the highest point in St. Paul and it towers over everything with its massive dome. ... read more

Well, some time has passed since we last made an entry. We have been working our booties off! Putting in long days during the week to help us sustain our winter adventure plans. We have had some good time in between. Since our last entry, leaves have started to fall and our anticipation grows as our journey nears. We took a short weekend over Labor Day to Colorado to visit. We wish we had more time there to visit everybody, but time was short and we hope to be able to see more when we return from the adventure we have always dreamed about. We spent time with J's mom on Friday night. She picked us up from the airport and..boy..did she spoil us. Food galore, wine, breakfast in bed and a relaxing evening started ... read more

I'm going rural Nebraska. Hmmm.....rural Nebraska. Aside from travelling, I can't stop my personal geneology search either. This trip will take me to such exciting ports of call as Silver Creek, Davey, and Unadilla, Nebraska to photograph tombstones. Not because its October or because its a creepy/cool thing to do, but because I think I can get a lot of pieces to my puzzle by doing so. There are a lot of dates that I am missing and I am running out of people to ask. The resources I have are pretty extensive but time consuming to find and there is also a lot of question as to whether these are the correct matches etc. . I figure a gravestone doesn't lie (not usually anyway). I've located some of the cemeteries and start out to find ... read more

So I left Chicago at Midnight on Monday night (well, tuesday morning if you must). 9 hours later, 6 spent crammed behind two large American women who, almost in unision with the start up of the bus engine, reclined their chairs and spent the entire bus ride that way, laptops out, movies playing and snacks out. It was a shame that I was travelling at night because i missed all of the American Country side which would have been nice. But!...The great thing about the Greyhound is that you get to experience very random country towns (albiet usually only for an hour at the most) that you would otherwise never get to see. Anyone been to Eau Claire, Madison, Middleton..anyone? They are pretty interesting places, a provide a little more insight, however small, to the American ... read more

***Updates at bottom*** Brian and Olaf spent another looong day yesterday working on the bus. They started at around noon and worked straight through to 4:30 am. Brian and I woke up at 9:30 today to run to a hydraulics shop just north of Minneapolis. It's about 6:00 pm now and it seems as they are getting close. I still am amazed that they are able to do this whole diesel/vegetable oil conversion at all. They've been talking about it forever and when you listen, it sounds fairly straight forward. Then you go watch them for a bit. Talk of regulators, pumps, brass and copper fittings, pressures, manifolds - it becomes a blur. The original plan was to leave this morning at 10:00 and head to Terre Haute, Indiana, where we would hang with some friends ... read more

This coming weekend we will be going to the Eccentrick Festival in Raleigh North Carolina. Brian and his good friend Olaf have been working non-stop on a vegetable oil conversion for our bus the "Nebuchadnezzar". They hope to have it ready by Thursday morning (its Tuesday night right now). In the event it isn't ready for this trip it will be ready for our tour in November/December. I also purchased a new camera so I won't have to use my phone any longer. :-) ... read more

We then met our WONDERFUL hosts putting us up in their grand house (on Northome by the Stone Arch ;-). Day 59..... Since our last update, we have driven, in only 3 days, over 1100 miles through Wyoming and South Dakota to Minnesota. Along the way, pretending to be patriotic Americans, we stopped at Mount Rushmore to view the giant heads of Lincoln, Roosevelt, Jefferson & Washington. We also made a lengthy stop in the Badlands, a strange yet beautiful sight and home to the movie of the same name. It was also home to numerous Rattlesnakes which meant Angela was unwilling to stray too far from the road. We finally arrived in Bloomington, just outside Minneapolis, to stay with Martin's cousin Marianne, her husband Michael & baby Maxwell, who were the perfect hosts! It was so wonderful to sit on a comfy sofa and have a proper cup of tea. Also, Martin even had time ... read more

Well we have signed up for this journal for when we begin our real journey in December. Our first move was here to Minnesota to grab seasonal jobs working May thru November so we are free to actually begin our dream of traveling and eventually moving abroad. We have really enjoyed Minnesota, and when we are not relaxing on our deck after 11 hour work days, we can be found canoeing down the St Croix River finding an island to pitch a tent on. We are also enjoying many visitors here while we still can before being to far away. Dan, Topher, JJ, Angel, her husband Josh, Dad Sherman and Kim & Chuck have all made there way out for weekend visits. We look forward to many more before December. What else is new? Well ... read more
