ramble16 - Margaret Ashley Love

Margaret Ashley Love I am a recent grad of the University of Richmond, VA, USA, out finding my real world, which will never include a desk, a time clock or a scheduled lunch break. The only bosses will be teachers as well and the only technology involved will be to keep my friends close and my loved ones close.

Link to a photo and video montage on YouTube.com: http://youtube.com/watch?v=82rx3DCObqY For starters, let's just get one thing straight: time is very different in Brazil. Once you get used to this and the fact that when you're travelling in a third world country, you have no cell phones and no internet, then you just might start to get in the mindset I was in for the trip. It started off a bit rough. You just have to plan better when you're with people and you have to do what you said you would do. You can't say one thing and call ahead [View Full Entry]

Day 1

South America » Brazil » Alagoas » Maceió
Ireland: 8-6 England: 13-3 Peace Team: 18-6 Our cheers were as follows: "Ireland, they smoke the pot of gold, if you know what I mean..." "God Save the Queen, a beer!" "Get on the PEACE TRAIN!" Xtehn and I came up with a fun game to play with 6 cans, a pinnapple and a blindfold. We had Great Britain all circle up and choose someone to be "the seeker". After this happened, Kenbrah and I took that person aside and blindfolded them while Xtehn explained the game to the people in the huddle. US team intermixed with them. The seeker was [View Full Entry]

Day 2

South America » Brazil » Alagoas » Maceió
Austria: 13-1 Scottland: 13-3 Switzerland: 8-6 Today we played Austria, Scottland and Switzerland and our cheers were as follows: We tried and tried to think of a Mozart song we could put words to, but we failed, so we did a Bach song and apologized for our short coming within the lyrics, haha. To Scottland, we started with a dramatization of Braveheart. "I heard William Wallace played for the Scotts", etc. Ha. To Switzerland, we did a Sound of Music Montage. Changed the words to "The Hills are alive, with the sound of Ultimate." "The stall count is 7 going on [View Full Entry]

Our German Drinking song
Germany: 11-9 Canada: 10-2 All that food paid off, because we defeated Germany in our first game against them. We knew going in that they were our biggest competition! After the game, Everett, who had been coming up with all of our cheers and did for the entirity of the tournament, tought us a German drinking song he had learned when he was living there. We learned it in about 5 mintues IN GERMAN! I thought it was quite impressive and all the Germans recognized it and laughed at our accents. Haha. It was fun to play against Canada. I had [View Full Entry]

Day 4

South America » Brazil » Alagoas » Maceió
Spain: 8-10 Brazil: 18-3 Spain beat us!!! It just might have been the best loss to ever have. We were getting so comfortable being 8 and 10 points ahead of teams, leading the entire game. The mental side of being behind was never challenged up to this point. It was just what we needed in case Germany came out stronger against us in the finals. By this point, we knew we had an automatic bye into the finals because the records of the other teams. Spain didn't have enough permanent residents/citizens of Spain to play in the semis, so Austria and [View Full Entry]

Masters: Gold: USA Silver: Great Britain Bronze: Canada Mixed: Gold: USA Silver: Germany Bronze: Spain Women: Gold: Great Britain Silver: USA Bronze: Australia Men: Gold: Australia Silver: Philapeans Bronze: USA The tournament was sooooo well scheduled. They did have 3 years to plan it, so go them! The next Beach Ultimate Worlds are in France in 4 years, so they'll probably be well-run too. Game on for an hour, game off for an hour, game on for an hour, etc. Everyone had lunch at the same time, conveniently at the hottest part of the day. Finals day was finals only each [View Full Entry]

With all the videos, when you click on it, I think you have to copy and paste the link into a new browser. After a little fiasco with rental cars, local Brazillian tag-alongs and being pulled over in a road block, Lars, KrisAnn, Erin and I took one of the rental cars and headed north. It surely was tough to say goodbye to that hotel guy :). He was so sweet to me. We exchanged email addresses, though I have no idea how that's going to go since we have no common language... Anyways. Driving north, we discovered the terribleness of [View Full Entry]

diving was out of this world. Or under this world, ha. 26 degree water (celcius) 29 degree air, 10 dives, I'm now advanced diver certified, so I can go down to 35 meters in open water (no cave or wreck diving for me yet) There were 19 of us on a 4 day, 3 night trip that went waaay up the coast of Queensland out of Cairns to the Northern Ribbon reefs. All those reefs are untampered with, only about 10 % of the total divers that dive the reef get to dive up there, which uped the cost, but [View Full Entry]

Cairns Adventures Margaret Ashley Love Denise and Graham came and picked my up from the airport with a little sign that said "Ashley Love" on it. haha. we laughed and laughed, but we actually recognized each other anyways. They drove me into Cairns telling me all about it and dropped off all my stuff at this hostel, then we went down to central Cairns to walk around and had a great dinner, went to the night markets, then dropped me back off at my hostel and arranged to meet up in the morning at 9.
