Day 11! I headed over to the New England Aquarium for a stroll through the tanks and then some whale watching. The aquarium itself is nice with plenty of things to see. My favorites were the dreaded jellyfish, the awesome turtles, and the leafy sea dragons. The sea dragons looked like weeds being blown way by a sea current. The penguin exhibit was also pretty cool. Its amazing to see the difference between the dorkish/doltish penguins on land and then watching them glide through the water like underwater ballerinas. Afterwards, I went on a whale-watching trip that guaranteed whales or your money back! I got to see right wales I guess. Mostly it was just their humps going in and out of the water. So I guess I wouldn’t be getting my money back. Still I ... read more

Day 10! I've been away from home for so long! I miss my cats! Spent the day in Boston sightseeing. My friend lives right around the corner from where the Bunker Hill Monument is. So I decided to check it out. I managed to climb a billion fights of stairs while huffing and puffing. Its amazing to see how out of shape I am! But after eating my 40th version of an Ultra Fisherman's Platter I can start to see why. I am fat and out of shape! I tried following part of the Freedom Trail today. It took me to see the U.S.S. Constitution to see how mariners used to make their living in time of peace and war, and then walked over the river on a bridge to check out downtown Boston. There is ... read more

Today has definitely been the most packed day of them all, and it happened in this place that is Boston. Firstly, I'll clear up some questions that people have been asking. No, it's not as hot as it is in New York, and not as humid, but still much hotter than back home! The place is so much different than anything else I've seen, but maybe that's because I've only been to two places here? I don't know, but you probably do :p Also, Willie left to go to Washington when I went to Boston. It's a shame, because he didn't leave or seem to want to give me any of his information, but I guess if I really wanted to get in touch, there aren't that many Willie Kunkel's in Washington state east of the ... read more

Boston to Shannon was only five hours and five minutes long. Not too bad. And in spite of our sketchy “charter” status… our carrier, Ryan Airlines, was similar to the average American carrier. There were a large number of irish people aboard. I assume they were traveling back home after vacationing in the states. Not too many young people. So what do you do on a five-hour flight? Option 1: Watch Ms. Congeniality 2 (the in-flight movie); Option 2: Drink Dan’s bottle of duty-free rum ($14 bacardi). Guess which one we did. The flight attendants seemed to like us… they gladly provided ample Coke and ice. Soon we arrived in Ireland. Many beautiful sights from the sky. ... read more

I finally got out of that huge city that was New York, and into a much younger population in the student populated city of Boston! Forgive that long and possibly strange sentence, it's just that with a new place comes new enthusiasm for this place. However, that is all in the now, but I'm going to move back to yesterday where I left it. But, before I go there, I just want to say that I caught up on the Big Brother news. Has there been some arguments or what?! Ok, for real this time. After I left the internet cafe yesterday, I thought I'd try and catch up with Willie after the show he saw, which was 'Phantom Of The Opera'. There were so many people coming out of that place, I swear I thought ... read more

No luck of the Irish after the first day. Our first flight from KC to Washington D.C. was delayed by two hours. So my travel buddy, Sean, and I spent some quality time at the Kansas City airport. Time was moving fast after a couple phone calls and a cup of coffee at KC's Home Turf (buscuits and gravy for Sean). Sean was quick to point out a United Airlines employee with the worst wig I've ever seen. Ahh... the joy of owning a digital camera. Enjoy! So after we meet up with Dan, the third member of our traveling crew, we were off. The three of us arrived in D.C. Reagan around 12:30 PM EST for what we thought would be painless connection... arrive at gate 43 and depart at gate 45. Seems easy… right? ... read more

Hi guys I hope that everyone at home is doing okay. Well my last few days in Boston have been pretty uneventful to tell the truth. It has been so hot and muggy that all I try and do all day is find a nice cool place to sit down and read. The first day that I arrived the airline lost my luggage so I was in the same clothes all day on monday. I pretty much slept the whole time because I couldn't sleep on the red-eye flight to philly or the early morning flight to boston. Getting to the hostel was really easy. Boston's metro is super simple to navigate. Anyway I mostly just hung out a the park and read my book all day. The next day I went to Boston College and ... read more

June 7th I have to say all the support for this little trip is totally overwhelming. I feel like I am off to the jungles of Africa or something… Oh I am, but not as bad as it sounds, well I think/hope! I think packing has been the worst! It was hard trying to think about everything you “might” need while you're there, since there will be no Walgreens or Target on every corner. I never have been one to pack light, so this is really tough trying to pack for a month. I can only take a certain amount out in the rural areas because we are flying on a small plane. I will have to store the rest at my hotel in Addis Ababa, but trust me this has been a real challenge. I ... read more
