In the afternoon I went with people from the Meeting group from yesterday to Boston. We went to a food festival at the seaport but it wasn't really interesting so we went further to the center of Boston. We went to Quincy market and then followed the red line from the Freedom trail till we get at the Boston Common where we took the subway to Science Museum. http://www.mos.org/ Freedom Trail is a 4 km long path through downtown Boston that passes 16 of the city's historic landmarks. It starts at the visitor information center in Boston Common. http://www.aviewoncities.com/boston/freedomtrail.htm We watched a documentary from 'Arabia'. I had fun on the musical stairs. When you walk on it the stairs make music so you can make a whole symphony walking up and down the stairs. Cool! After ... read more

Tonight I met new people at a restaurant in Worcester. We meeted at the Smokestack Urban Barbecue It was not easy to follow the conversation all the time and sometime I felt really lost. The people I met were very sympathic. When I came in there was only person and we started talking. After a while others came in and so it started... As apetizer we had 'Fried Pickels'. (cornichons frit - gebakken augurken) I ordered a 'Fried Chicken Steak' (poulet pané frit - gepaneerde kip) with 2 slides of 'Creole Potato Salad' and 'Cumcumber Salad'. I could taste some other slides from my others 'Smashed Potatoes' (purée de pdt - aardappelpuree) and 'BBQ Beans'. Because we had to wait very long for our dinner we recieved an assortment of desserts to share: 'Black Bottom Banana ... read more

After a good night at the Cap Codder, we went to the centre of Provincetown. On the way, we stopped the buy a nice coffee where we met a women from Canada, Québec. She heard we speak french and helped us in the ordering. At 10.00am we embark on the Dolphin to meet the whales. After three quarters we finally see our first whale. And what a vedette, the whale gave us a real show with all her stunts. We went to see an other but it was mostly diving and we could see it when it came up the get some air. After 3hours we went back to the coast. We decided to hit the road and to stop on the way to eat lunch. At Wellfleet we found a nice restaurant named 'Moby Dick's ... read more

I'm already two weeks in Worcester. Time pass by so fast. I moved closer to my work, now I drive only 35 min instead of 55 min. That's a huge difference when you have to drive back home at 11.00 pm. Worcester is a bigger city. I can go to the grocery at the corner of my street 24hours a day 7/7. That's America... It's named after Worcester in England and due to its location is often refferd as the "Heart of the Commonwealth". Now, I'm 64km (40 miles) from Boston, that's about one hour. But I can take the train from Worcester to Boston. When I want to go find a yoga club I was lost and just walked around in Worcester. On my walk thru Worcester I made some pictures. I found nice halloween ... read more

Riiing, 6 o'clock in the morning. Difficult to wake up. I must be at 8.30 p.m. at Seven Hills Foundation Hills in Worcester and it takes us 1h10 to get there. Ulrike (Ilex-fellow from Germany) count large if there is trafic jam and leave at 7.00 p.m. We arrived just on time and meet to staff poeple to whom we can ask all our questions. We recieved a lot of information about the Foundation and their policy (politique de travail - werk beleid). On the way back we've made a detour by the places we'll work and both looks nice. I will work in a residential setting, it's a house, in a quiet neighboorhood. I have to ride every day for about 1 hour one way to get to my work. Hopefully my car will not ... read more

I've done a pretty poor job updating this blog lately, but a short entry before I head to yet another day of training and work. Yesterday was the official start to my first work week (but then again also my fourth day in the house). I met a lot of other staff who all seem pretty cool. I also learned a lot after looking for the white plastic thing on a chicken to pop. Turns out the person that put it in there put the chicken in the pan upside down... hence why another staff and myself could not find said white popper thing. Today, off to Marlborough for more med certification training and then work again from 2-10. And for some reason I work up at 5 to 6 today. And tomorrow I work a ... read more

Today I had my first and last undergraduate final ever. Econ 222: Labor Economics. Pretty cool because I kicked butt on it, finished in an hour, and was the first to turn it in. I knew about each of the subjects he put on the test. Couldn't be happier. I also turned in my independent study research paper today. 21 pages all about healthcare access in the US. It's an ok paper, but I wish I had more time to work on it. Then again, I was really excited to get it out of my hands. Now I've started revising my econ group paper. Meeting today at 4 to hopefully figure out what we're doing (yeah, because it's due Tuesday- no if's, and's, or butts). Since I've written a paper which already meets and excedes the ... read more

This weekend started out amazinglyu well when I got a voicemail around 5 on Friday. An HR person from the job I interviewed for last week called to offer me the position! Unfortunately my phone was on silent since I was in the library, so I missed it! The only dilemma now is whether I take this job not having heard back about the first interview. Tomorrow morning I'm heading to see the career counselor I've been working with to figure this one out. Suggestions?... read more

This week marks some new beginnings/changes. Today is officially my last day of work in the Sociology Office because my work-study money has ran out. I guess that's what happens with work-study when you get a pay-rate increase: it runs out faster. This week is also the week I'm supposed to be hearing about the two job interviews I've had so far. The utter lack of control that I have over the outcome of the interviews is driving me NUTS! I'm also hoping that this week will involve the completion of multiple school-related projects so that next week doesn't end up being as crazy as it's looking. And I'm also looking forward to incorporating more friend time: dinner with Kimmy and Alisha on Wednesday and maybe some coffee/slurpy breaks in between all the work for the ... read more
