So I started writing some dorky entry with an extensive analogy relating all the work I have to do to a hunchback-looking weight on my shoulders. Unfortunately, I don't have time to write something so creative- I know it sounds pretty interesting though. Anyways, in short, it dawned on me this morning how much work I have to do before the end of the semester. While I have prided myself in the fact that I rarely whine about this as compared to some of my peers, I've reached the point where incessant whining and irrational behaviour is totally acceptable. ... read more

I guess the Career Fair last week was worth it- I got a call from an organization yesterday that I had given my resume to while I was there. We didn't really talk at the Fair, and I haven't been in touch with the group at all, but I was offered an interview! It's another residential group home, but this time it would involve working with a group of 5 20-somethings with Asperger's Syndrome. Other than crew volunteering, I haven't really worked with anyone over the age of 18, and I don't know a whole lot about Asperger's, so I'd have some learning to do. But I'm looking forward to meeting with the woman who called me- she said she would show me around the house and introduce me to some of the people that live ... read more

This morning, I woke up and looked like this guy ------------------ It's been a long week- applications, paper writing, classes, work, etc, etc. Thank goodness it's the weekend! Tomorrow, I'm going to New Jersey to see my sister and her family, and my Dad's planning on driving over from Ohio. It'll be nice to see all of them. I'm hoping that today will be a heavy work day so that I won't have to take much with me. The nice thing though about driving myself instead of taking the bus is that I can take as much stuff as I need to. Today, I would really like to write an english paper, research my economics topic, and write some pages for my independent study (and maybe do some birthday shopping for one small girl). Hopefully tomorrow, ... read more

The interview went amazingly well! I couldn't get a smile off my face when I left! I was pretty nervous last night and especially right before the interview, so I made sure I got to the office about 10 minutes early so I could sit and chill out. It was great too because I didn't have to worry about being late then. Our conversation seemed to flow really well, and there were so many times when she was describing the organization to me that I just wanted to yell out, "Yes! That's exactly what I think too!" I love their philosophy on the way that they work with the people they serve, and the balance between lending yourself to their needs and protecting your position as an authoritarian seems just right. I got a few more ... read more

It's still pretty chilly out. I'm waiting impatiently for spring to show up. The sun has been out, but the wind is so chilling! Luckily, the cold weather has kept me indoors for the most part, which means work has been getting done (for the most part). It feels like it's finals already though. Time is flying by, and things have started to pile up. Right now I'm just trying to get as organized as possible- then I'll actually do work :) These job applications on top of everything else have been a little overwhelming at times, but I told myself I'd try my hardest. No regrets about what I should have or could have done! There's a job fair tomorrow that I'm planning on stopping at to speak to four companies, and my interview is ... read more

Last night, I tried making the family "Giggle Casserole" recipe... without the recipe. It's impressive what kind of smells stick with you over the years; my scent memory was what I relied on most during the cooking process. Anyways, I thought it ended up being pretty close to the real thing. I used: some ground beef egg noodles sliced mushrooms 3/4 can of cream of mushroom soup 1/2 a something or other of sour cream 1/2 an onion 2 cloves garlic brown beef with onions, garlic, mushrooms. cook noodles. mix all ingredients together. cook at 350 for 20-30 minutes. It needed some serious salt and pepper, but that was easily added. The best part of it all was Eric's snear at the thing being pulled out of the oven. We have a deal- you have to ... read more

I haven't been updating this for awhile, but it seems like after getting some fishy spam comments, I changed my privacy settings which result in all of the subscriber emails being deleted. So I tried to remember who had signed up and added all of you back- hence why you're getting this email. Anyways, I was offered my first interview for a human services position today! I'm so relieved to have found out. I found out about the *** ******* from the career services office here and then spoke with the recruiter to find out some more information about what they do. Our conversation seemed to have went well, and I was so pumped that the woman said on the phone that they support the idea that each of the children they work with has something ... read more

Happy St Patrick's Day! I'm supposed to be wearing some article of green clothing and planning on partaking in some green beer drinking later this evening. Unfortunately, there's not a stitch of green on me, and I'm combating the thought that I may be getting old as drinking seems to have lost its appeal, especially drinking something weirdly colored. I did however enjoy a St Patrick's Day Parade here in Worcester this past Sunday. It was one of the first warm, sunny days here. I actually got down to my t-shirt for part of it! It was right near school, so Eric and I parked in the parking garage on campus and walked down to meet his friends. I think the enjoyment was much more from the social aspect of the whole thing rather than the ... read more

I'm making another entry without the photos I hoped to have. No mind blowing travels to report, but I'm off on a mind bending internal journey over the last few days initiated by taking on more time in my second job and the sleep deprivation and late night driving that come with it. My work travels have taken me up into Gardner and Athol in Northcentral Massachusetts. I have'nt been driving with a camera and I'm no photographer (yet) , but now and again I see something that makes me wish I'd have taken one with me. So tonight, if I'm called out, I'll bring the camera. Photos taken at night will probably not be what I want but we'll see. I still can't believe the extent of the damage to the trees from last month's ... read more

Today I begin my travel blog, although I am unable to get up an go a-traveling right now. Wanderlust has been seeping into my waking and dreaming life recently (actually, it's always there but lately it’s been more acute). Trains, long distance hikes, long runs, Alaska, the desert...these are some of the themes. Money is too tight to get up and go with my wife and three kids and there's no time with work and such. So it's either pine away or start thinking like a traveler and find some adventure in everyday life. Starting now I'm an amateur micro-traveler and mini-adventurer. I'm writing from Rutland, Massachusetts, United States of America - the geographical center of the state in the Northeast corner of the country. Our region was very recently (December 12th) ravaged by an ice ... read more
