Hello there to those who are either subscribers or still check back occasionally.. I know that my trip is well over, however I ended up writing one of my term papers on things I observed while overseas. Thinking some of you may find it interesting, I decided to post it on here. Something that really stood out to me while overseas, particularly within the Czech Republic, was the high concentration of Roma people and the great divides socially and economically there was between them and the native Czechs. Despite working at a museum dedicated to a massacre of people, I was always alerted to 'the gypsies' when traveling throughout the country. The Roma were one of if not the largest ethnic group outside the Jews to be killed during the Holocaust, despite this receiving little to ... read more

So I'm leaving tomorrow for New Jersey. I can't believe it's almost the end of November. I'm super looking forward to having a break from being around here and getting to see the family! I just have to get ready to go first... Can you hire someone to pack your luggage and make sure all other things are in order? If not, I'm starting a business asap :) I got up this morning to get some laundry done, hopefully get my work in order, and maybe figure out how I'm going to fit a week's worth of clothes into a bag made for an over night trip. I feel like I should be bringing a lot of work with me, but I probably won't get much done anyways (not that I'd really want to be doing ... read more

today's been filled with cooking. since today is ryan's funeral, and i couldn't be down in texas for it, i decided to spend the afternoon doing something i enjoy (cooking) and working on an art project because ryan was all about art. we actually met in our art class in 7th grade. anyways, now that i've made pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, french silk pie, and baked chicken, and served taste testing plates to the roomies, i'm going to relax for a bit and pop in the shower. eric's coming around 9, and i think we're going to either watch a movie or go down to moynihans for a bit.... read more

I took the day off work, so I'm just hanging out in the apartment for today. I have big plans but little energy. First on the list was making breakfast. Luckily, the glory of southwestern food is being able to throw things together. So even though I need to get to the grocery store, I made some yummy eggs (see picture). Next was working on my environment and health research project- done, just need to print articles at the library. Then I worked on my econ project- done, just need to print and proof. After writing this, hopefully I'll go and fold my laundry from Tuesday. Last on the list is doing my spanish homework. The roommates and I are still working on decorating the apartment too, so Kathy and I talked this morning about making ... read more

It's definitely reached that point in my day where I should be getting to sleep. Today I met with my faculty advisor, Professor Ewick, for the last time :( I'm trying to figure out my course schedule for the spring semester. I can't believe it's my last one at Clark! Ewick asked me what I was planning on doing after graduation, and I told her that I knew this was probably one of the few times in my life when I had to option to pick up and go anywhere- I mean, I can move wherever I want to find a job (practically)- and yet, I have no idea what I want to do. Going back to Texas to work for the same company again has some pros. Scotland? New York? I remember while I was ... read more

So I left my 9 AM class this morning about an hour and a half before it was supposed to be over. My professor has decided that the students will be teaching his course for the rest of the semester while he spends time on the computer. Fabulous learning environment! I had decided when we were assigned our first paper and he was totally lackadaisical about it, that I would wait to see if he was going to do the same thing with the midterm. Turns out, I didn't have to turn in my midterm essays today. I could turn them in next week or possibly just email them to him should I be "sick" during our next class, and I would still get the same grade! Anyways, I went up to the Soc Office during ... read more

So game 7 of the ALCS was not that great. After Pedroia's home run (and only point to the Red Sox for the whole game...), I thought there was a chance for another awesome comeback. The last couple of innings told a totally different story though. Lucky for Pedroia, I think I will now refrain from calling him "Rat Boy" (due to his rat like facial structure) and singing the Batman theme song whenever he comes up to bat. With three home runs in the ALCS series, Rat B... I mean, Pedroia, really carried his own weight.... read more

Quick update before I get back to studying. This week- Monday was Columbus Day, so no school- yay! This morning I worked 9-11, and I have my spanish discussion at 5. The rest of the day is going to be fill with watching the 4th Red Sox game against Tampa Bay and studying mas espanol. Wednesday, I have my first spanish test. Other than that, midterms have started- Wednesday I have two essays due (only 3 to 5 pages each surprisingly) and next Thursday is my econ midterm. Not too much else going on this week. This past weekend, Kathy and I went shopping Saturday while she was getting an oil change at Sears. I got an awesome deal at Bath & Body Works, hadn't been in there in forever. So I smell nice now :) ... read more
