Went to the Kentucky Bourbon Festival today!! It was about 50 miles northwest of where we're staying in Campbellsville. Nice day and pretty drive up there. Parked and went to the Talbott Pub to get late lunch and some Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. It's a nice beer that's finished in the bourbon barrels! Glenn tried some Apple Pie Moonshine...was delicious, but would be VERY dangerous!! We met a very nice young couple that had just moved from New Mexico to Lexington. They were fresh out of college and had taken their first jobs. We strolled over to the festival area, but were cash poor and the ATM onsite didn't work, so back downtown for an ATM. Back to the festival, where we tried some of the local bourbons. First sips were nice, but it wasn't long ... read more

All settled in at the Green River Stables RV Park. We took a ride yesterday before work (work is 5pm - 10pm this week...letting us old farts get acclimated to physical labor as well as the time...). We went over to the Green River Lake Marina...you can rent your houseboat there to head out on the lake...nice!! Then tootled around and over the dam (it's a Corp of Engineers facility). Saw lots of vultures and a bunch (gaggle, herd, flock?????) of turkeys :) Yesterday was our first day of the actual job...been doing paperwork and training until now. I'm stowing product and Glenn is receiving it (scanning it into the system). So far, we're both pretty happy with the type of work. I'm doing quite a bit of bending and stretching with the walking and G's ... read more

The drive from Goodlettsville TN to the Dog Creek Campground on Nolin River Lake is only about 100 miles but took me over two hours on Wednesday, September 4, 2013. The narrow, winding roads leading to the campground from I-65 had me driving most of the distance at less than 35 mph. Nolin River Lake and the Dog Creek Campground are U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facilities located near Mammoth Cave National Park. I reserved an RV spot for only four nights since there were only a few additional attractions I had on my “to do” list in the Bowling Green area and since I had scheduled a visit with my aunt in nearby White Mills KY for the other three nights of my self-imposed “week.” I have found most Corps of Engineer campgrounds are similar ... read more

The movie last night (The Tourist) was just ok. I thought Angelina Jolie looked too thin. Ken thought it was dumb. Anyway, we read for a little, then I had trouble going to sleep. I started thinking about how this time next week I will actually be at my real home in Tucson. I'm excited! We will be there for 10 days. To see all 3 of my sons (Jason, Amy and Josh will visit) and Amy will be so fun. Also we will celebrate Annie's Birthday. We got up at 7am but by the time we had cofee, showered and packed up, it was 9 am before we pulled out of Carrollton, KY. I'm not sure if I'll ever be back here...definitely not this park. But it is a pretty part of the country. We ... read more

Up early for work. I pretty much stayed in my jammies all day while working. Nice! I had a few conference calls/meetings and lots to do. Ken went over to our neighbors (David and Joyce) to join him for coffee by the campfire. Dave is going to a gun shop today so Ken decided to join him. When he returns we have lunch-a slice of whole wheat toast, peanut butter and a slice of Swiss cheese. It is really good, you should try it! Ken piddles the rest of the day-washes the truck, organizes the 'basement' of the RV. I worked the rest of the day, took a shower and we went out for dinner-Hometown Pizza again. The waitress called me 'darling'. We had a thin crust pizza with bacon, mushrooms, banana peppers, onions. We kind ... read more

We set the alarm for 6:30. I work remotely today. I showered, then drank coffee and ate one of those delicious cinnamon squares. Pati and Ken made a shopping list for Home Depot; they have a few projects planned while I work. They left and I had some quiet time to get work done. Ken is putting up a shade on her balcony. She gets the morning sun. He also set up a log holder; she has a wood burning fireplace. Once thy returned and got busy, they had to return for a couple more things. They picked up lunch from a little deli-delicious homemade sandwiches. We called Josh to wish him a Happy Birthday and chat. Miss him! I worked the rest of day and then we packed up and said our goodbyes to Pati. ... read more

When I wake up, Pati and Ken are gone...they are walking the campground. I get up and make my latte. They returned a few minutes later, hot and sweaty although they tried to act like they weren't hot. Pati had yogurt, Ken had toast and of course I had my waffles (by the way, I eat them dry, right out of the toaster-the only good ones are the whole grain blueberry Egos). Afterwards we get ready to go....we are going to explore wineries today. I had no idea there were any wineries in Kentucky. In fact the owner of the winery told me the first one in the US was in KY. I found it hard to believe so I researched it. Wikipedia says: "The first commercial winery in the United States was established by an ... read more

We arrived at General Butler State Park campground around 5pm, drove back to our site and it appears to be too short and too steep, but the campground is full so there aren't any other choices. The camper next to us 'Bob' Comes over to give advice and recommendations. We successfully got the RV in, but the slope was so steep he couldn't get it level enough-we'd be walking uphill to get to our bedroom. It's extremely humid and we are soaking wet. Pati arrives from Ft Wright, KY in her cute blue convertable Mustang. Ken asks us to go up to the office and ask if there are any possible alternative sites. We get there just as they had a cancellation. Pati and I check it out; it's a lot more level, so we go ... read more

13 August, 2013 Here are the highlights on the 5 states we passed through since my last blog entry. VERMONT We drove across the southern part of Vermont on Hwy 9 from Brattleboro to Bennington. There was a lot of traffic, mostly out of state license tags, just a very few from Vermont. Wilmington, about halfway across, was so pretty with flowers everywhere. Lots of flowerbeds, hanging baskets and window boxes full of flowers. Even the Welcome to Wilmington signs had flower boxes. Vermont and New Hampshire are such beautiful states. NEW YORK We drove to Troy then south to Albany. There was a lot of traffic heading south toward that Big City we prefer to avoid. Unlike in Vermont, most of the cars had New York tags. We drove from Albany to Binghamton, then into ... read more

Thursday, August 1st, 2013 What could be more alluring than the World’s Longest Yard Sale? First held 26 years ago, and always the first weekend of August, Highway 127 from Addison, Michigan to Gadsden, Alabama is the 690 mile stretch of highway that creates this unique experience. While not die-hard yard salers, we do like adventures, so decided this was the year we would tackle the parts of Highway 127 within a day’s drive of our home. So on a beautiful summer Thursday morning we headed south on Highway 127 where it crosses Interstate 70 in Ohio. Our plan today was to go as far as Cincinnati. On Saturday we’d pick Highway 127 up again near Covington, KY. We had only gone about a mile before we came upon the first sale. There was no way we ... read more
