Sunday, 30 September, 2012 In honor of Kerry’s folks, who threatened to go to Mammoth Cave when they thought we had forgotten their 40th anniversary, we are heading to Mammoth Cave NP. We left home before noon, since we were still trying to get organized and didn’t have that far to drive. This is our first camping trip in our new truck pulling our new (to us) camper. We stopped first at Fort Donelson National Battlefield in Dover, TN, site of an important (to the Union) battle during the Civil War. It’s a beautiful part of the state at the southern end of Land Between the Lakes. After a short tour, a stamp and a patch, we continued on to our destination. The campground at Mammoth Cave National Park is very nice, lots of trees, starting ... read more

On September 15th, in the heart of the Bluegrass, flanked by historic brick colonials and shaded by a tall maple tree, Andras and I were finally married! We opted for a small, intimate ceremony combining a blend of natural beauty with southern elegance. In the weeks and months before, I'd busily hit the corners of the country again - Seattle for a bridal shower, New York to pick up the wedding dress - while Andras was out of the country in Mexico. The days prior were filled with last-minute errands, picking up family at the airport and finalizing arrangements for the rehersal dinner, watching the weather forecast call first for rain, then for thunderstorms, then for severe thunderstorms strickly limited to the hours our wedding was to be held outdoors. And somehow, everything was perfect. Up ... read more

The brotherhood of Christ is a global community. The apostle Peter urged Christians to: “Love the brotherhood” (1 Peter 2:17). The more we learn about faithful Christians in different places the easier this becomes. A blog such as this can help us “see” more of our spiritual family. Love among brethren ought to be the recognizable virtue which identifies the disciples of Jesus. “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:35). For “he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, cannot love God whom he hath not seen” (1 John 4:20). Many of you have followed the Jensen journey via this medium over the last five years. With very mixed emotions we left the African mission field. We miss our Tanzanian brethren ... read more

The rubber bands are heading in the right direction. These are the words of wisdom that I discovered contained within my fortune cookie last night after consuming some mediocre-at-best Chinese food. I was perplexed, confused, and even excited. This string of words could well be the secret of life, or the unifying code that aligns quantam theory with gravity, or the very name of God! Or it could be a typo or a joke... Either way though, it seems that I had a mystery on my hands. In the style of the great dectectives of yore, I prepared to travel the world and spend millions of dollars on cool equipment whilst utilizing my astounding deductive reasoning to see connections where none have before. It was only then that I realized that those "great dectectives of yore" ... read more

Leaving Gettysburg we stopped a few days at a West Virginia State Park. We enjoyed shady walks which masked the 100 degree weather and high humidy. Intending to stay 3 weeks at Thousand Trails in Wilmington, Ohio, hail storms and low-voltage in the park chased us out of Ohio the next morning. We wanted to visit family in NE Ohio but will have to save that for a differnt year. We found a Corps of Engineers Park outside of Louisville, Ky, set up camp, and planned for a quiet respite until our daughters in Bowling Green could spare some time for us old foggies. The Wax Campground was quite isolated. We found out the closest grocery store was 50 miles, AND we were in a three-county dry (as in no wine) area! The two-week stay was ... read more

Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible. ~Doug Larson As some of you might know, In February 2011, I was sitting on a beach in Chile writing a list of 27 goals to accomplish in my 27th year. I found that excercise quite rewarding, and I was actually able to accomplish several of them. On February 8th, 2012, I closed my 27th year of life began my 28th, I thought it'd be cool to revisit those goals, see which of them I actually did, and then post this year's list of 28 things to do in my 28th year. My hope is that you can help me to be more accountable so that I can have even more success next year. :) Well, here it ... read more

June 29 10:07 am Today, I met a nice woman who told me I had to work hard and do well in France because "people don't want me to do well". This isn't really unusual considering I've grown up in America as an African American woman. I've been told that society will make it hard for me to succeed because of my race, since I was hold enough to understand who exactly 'they' were. However, I'm not writing this to discuss the woes of being a minority in America. Instead, I was inspired to write, because the beautiful 76 year old women who warned me in an airport in Kentucky, is German. Lydia is her name and she taught me a few things while she helped me spend as close to the 18 dollars I had ... read more

(Jason posting today) So it's day 1 and we're already well on our way to the West Coast. We packed up the bikes this morning and got a great breakfast with Alexis at the Metro 29 Diner. We finished breakfast and hit the road around 9am and headed out through Virginia with a quick stop at Larry's so dad could meet the puppies, and then continued on our way. We took the backroads through West Virginia and then picked up I64 into Kentucky. We had beautiful weather in the 70s the entire way with no traffic. We really didn't see too much of interest along the way since we've traveled a lot of this before, but it was a great day of riding and we put around 450 miles behind us. We knew we might hit ... read more

Lots to do and lots to see! We began with the Muhammad Ali Center- a museum that tells the story of a fighter, activist and charity volunteer. The films and exhibits show his life as a fighter, his media speeches and his charity work. You can even watch old films of some of his memorable fights. The show him taunting his opponents in the media and his victory dance after a knockout. We went to the Oaks, the big race before the Derby wearing pink-the signature color of the race. The official flower is a lily and they even have a drink named one! It comes in a souvenir glass, but don’t try to bring any glass to the track THAT, they take away . We signed up for the Urban Bourbon Trail with a passport ... read more
