The movie last night (The Tourist) was just ok. I thought Angelina Jolie looked too thin. Ken thought it was dumb. Anyway, we read for a little, then I had trouble going to sleep. I started thinking about how this time next week I will actually be at my real home in Tucson. I'm excited! We will be there for 10 days. To see all 3 of my sons (Jason, Amy and Josh will visit) and Amy will be so fun. Also we will celebrate Annie's Birthday.
We got up at 7am but by the time we had cofee, showered and packed up, it was 9 am before we pulled out of Carrollton, KY. I'm not sure if I'll ever be back here...definitely not this park. But it is a pretty part of the country. We said goodbye to our neighbors. We drove for awhile and stopped at Starbuck's. We needed more coffee beans; I got a Cool Lime Refresher (first one in a long time!), Ken got an Americano, we split a Mozzarella/Tomatoe sandwich for lunch. I also bought Lola and Bella gift cards. They had the new Autumn ones and I just couldn't resist. We got back on
the road and the drive in KY is beautiful. Acres of corn growing and lots of rolling grassy fields. Soon all this green will be bursting with fall color. Ken and I talked about our plans. We are looking forward to hanging out in Asheville, NC through Halloween. We don't know after that. We want to go kayaking, hiking, ziplining and exploring festivals.
Still driving. We are on 40E headed to Asheville. This has to be one of the prettiest drives in the US. As we pass through Knoxville we see all the signs for Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg. So, so many memories from this area. As far back as when I was a kid, with Ken while dating, youth group trips, trips with our kids and with our grand kids.
We arrive at the Campfire Lodgings campground on top of a mountain overlooking the French Broad river about 6:15. We had checked this place out about a month ago and it is beautiful!! As we pull in, our neighbors say hello, they are maybe a few years younger than us. They tell us the sunset, which is in about 30 minutes is beautiful! The park has created
Sunset at Campfire Lodgings Campground
The Blue Ridge Mountains; French Broad River in distance a sitting area on the edge of the mountain for this nightly pleasure with benches, chairs, even foot rests. We quickly set up, pour a glass of wine for me, a beer for Ken and head up to the overlook. Our next door neighbors arrive...I forget their names. She tells me about a good winery they visited today; also a great shoe store: "Tops for shoes" in Asheville. She bragged that today they bought 20 pair of shoes for $1700. Really? That's a bargain? And why do I need 20 pair of shoes? Ok, sip my wine and check my phone, stand up to take a picture of the sunset....oh good...she is talking to someone else.
Another couple arrives and we begin chatting with them-Mike and Peggy. They retired a year ago, sold their house and are 'full time RVers'. They travel all over the US. They are staying here 3 weeks, then going to Chattanooga. They will spend the winter in Ft Myers, Florida. I asked her how long she will do this..and she said they don't know. When they think about 'settling down' the thought is just too unsettling. They like the road. I asked her what
has been their favorite place and they both said Utah. Then I asked her what she has learned about the people she has met. She said the number one thing is people tell her they regret not doing what she is doing...or something similar...following your dreams. They wait until they retire or have enough money....then someone gets sick...or they just no longer have the will...too tired...and now they have regrets...dreams not fulfilled. Life is now folks...live your dream!! After dark we returned to our RV and watched the Reds game.

You go to movies ???
Dear Margie, There is such a lack of talent in Hollywood ... I saw "Schindler's List" (1993), "Monster" (2003, Charlize Theron deserved her Oscar). And lastly, "The Passion of the Christ" (2004) and havn't been to a movie since. These three films did not disappoint me. Otherwise I virtually refuse to watch anything that's less then forty-years old. I'm impossible to please ... but your blog is very interesting, to me.
