This is Juan, (the younger one) its been a while since my dad had updated this blog, but we just finished packing for Peru. We are backpacking EVERYTHING. Most of it is in a compression sack. We leave Thursday. After a few days in Peru, we will probably find an internet cafe to update the blog. Till next time!... read more

St. Augustine was absolutely fabulous and we thoroughly enjoyed our wonderful dinner at the amazing Columbia restaurant. Afterwards we went to an amazing dessert bistro owned by 5th generation French chefs, Bistro De Leon---phenomenal desserts beyond explaination. On our last day in St. Augustine we visited some nature reserves and swam at Anastasia State Park which was wonderful and then we took a scenic cruise around the bay. We picked up my sweetie/hubby at the Jacksonville airport to get ready for our cruise to the Bahamas the next day. We all ate dinner at a local ale brewery and then hit the sack for our wonderful cruise the next day.... read more

We went into town again this morning before heading for Savannah GA. We just had to do the Fountain of Youth no matter how hokey it might be. First we had a nice breakfast at an authentic french crepe place. It was very good. Then we went over to the fountain. See the pictures. It really isn't a fountain as much as a well these days. The water is a bit sulpher-ish but drinkable. Supposedly Juan Ponce De Leon really believed it would slow or even stop the aging process. It was probably the power of positive thinking but he did live well past the average age of the time. He lived to be 61 I think it was and then died of a wound even then. Who knows how long he might have lived ... read more

My apologies but it is once again time for each and every one of you to start enduring the travel blog again. After 4 months in the Tampa area, we finally left and are in St. Augustine, FL. It's claim to fame is being the oldest city in the U.S. originally settled in 1565 give or take. It was a three and a half hour drive up here from Tampa and it is on the east coast just south of Jacksonville. We are at an RV park right off highway 95. It is basic but nice and clean. I do believe we have stayed in Florida a tad too long because it is getting very hot and muggy. Last night the thunderstorms were so severe that we thought about abandoning ship, but that would make ... read more

We drove to Anastasia Island today on A1A South to Marineland to the Dolphin center and we had an amazing dolphin experience where the trainers let us feed and play with Nellie, a 56 year-old dolphin and the oldest ever in captivity---most dolphins only live 25-30 years. She was great. We went swimming at the beach nearby afterwards and then a huge lightning storm came from nowhere and pummeled us at the beach so we ran to the car and drove back to the Hilton where we swam in the pouring rain. Now we are getting ready to meet our hosts at the Columbia Restaurant in town. More later! ... read more

We ate breakfast with out hosts early this morning at the beautiful historic Hilton looking out at the bay and then we headed off to the oldest street in the USA, to a 300+ year old Spanish hosptial, and to climb the St. Augustine Lighthouse---all 219+ steps up and down---phew! What a view from the top though! St. Augustine is the oldest city in the USA ---founded in 1564!!!!! We went to the 100+ year old Alligator Farm which was magificent with hundreds of alligators and dozens of gator species and nesting exotic birds---the birds nest there because the gators keep away predators there on Anastasia Island. I got to get inside the pen (closed to the public) and pet an 80+ year old alligator....wow! I'm wearing my poofy new popcorn travel shirt----no I am not ... read more

It's been a bit... Since the last time you heard from me. We have gone back and forth trying to decide; do we do it or do we cancel??? We went on our first 4 mile training walk on 4/14 around our community. It was a casual stroll with good conversation with my son. I knew he liked his Forensics class but I learned he really really likes his Forensics class during this walk. Walk took us 1 1/2 hours... In addition to the walks I've been going to the gym every day and putting in 2-3 miles each day on a treadmill at full incline. On Thursday 4/16 the walk around the community wasn't as well received by Juan as our 1st one 4/14... He's gonna get bored and doesn't believe a simple waslk is ... read more

After a 3 week trip home to celebrate Christmas with family (see previous 'quiet published blog') we are back on the move again. The weather has been great, at last - high 70's F - shorts and t's! St Augustine is great city to visit by boat - the marina is right downtown - everything is walkable with lots to see and do in the oldest European settlement in North America. It is a very low profile city, well preserved - reminds us of Quebec City. Last night we cheered the Canadian Juniors on to victory over Sweden in a local sports bar - we were the only ones watching that screen!... read more
