Being up early thanks to the ducks and the heat meant we got the chance to spend a full day exploring St.Augustine, probably the closest thing the USA has to a truly historic city that can trace its origins back to the 16th century. From the entrance to the KOA we were able to pick up the shuttle from the Old Town Trolley Tours straight into the centre of town, thankfully saving the hassle of trying to park the beast somewhere in the middle of the narrow streets. Whilst waiting for the shuttle at the junction outside the camp, we watched a truck take the traffic lights too fast and deposit a leather three piece suite across the major junction. The guy inside just reversed back into the middle of the busy crossroads, chucked the suite back ... read more

So another year has crept up on me and we found our birthdays once again approaching very quickly. I say we because my birthday and my husbands birthday are exactly one week apart. He is exactly one year and one week older than me. Maybe it was just me, maybe the hours were getting shorter, or maybe it was the fact that it was my first birthday since I had baby and most days are just a blur. Regardless of the reason, I was turning another year older faster than I could ever remember before. Normally I would plan an adventures out of town trip to celebrate our birthdays. However, being that we just had a baby that wasn't happening. So my husband suggested taking the baby to grandma's house and just the two of us ... read more

With both an Atlantic Ocean side and a Matanzas / North River side, Vilano Beach has miles and miles of ocean beach and water views. We're back at North Beach RV Resort which stretches from river to ocean divided only by scenic A1A! We've camped at North Beach almost a dozen times over the past 7 years. We've noted changes during that time span; but it is probably the things that are constant - like the lush, indigenous landscaping between camp sites that we most appreciate. We spent most of our time right at North Beach. We walked along the beach where on day one a wedding rehearsal was in progress and on day two guests were arriving. There were more fishermen (and women) than anyone else along the crashing wave line. The sand is a ... read more

Packing is a necessary evil, but what to take! All of our animals were stepping on everything. Joe KNEW we were going somewhere and was not happy about it. He knows what the suitcase is... We will miss our Wilson family, so we have decided to adopt a "WILSON" to take with us, whom you will see in subsequent photos. Tomorrow a few more chores and lunch with Dad Krueger before we are (feel free to sing along) "LEAVING ON A JET PLANE".......... read more

Waiting for an email for 9 months requires much patience... So there we were, making the not so awesome trek from our office in Jacksonville to our new home in St. Augustine (currently our niece’s bedroom, since we are now homeless) when we heard the “you’ve got mail” ding of the telephone. The long awaited email had arrived. The Peace Corps extended us an official invitation to join its ranks! We will be working in the area of Youth Development in MOROCCO!!! Yes, Youth Development. (For those who know us well, you realize what a drastic change that will be for us.) We will leave January 12, to start our journey. But first, we are going to shake loose the dirt from years of litigation and roam aimlessly through Central America. For those who choose to ... read more

With great good luck we made another 50+ miles on the ICW, for 2 days, raised 5 bridges in good speed and still had time for showers and sweet potato fries at an outdoor cafe, while being serenaded by a lovely professional musician, Gary Campbell. I spent quite a bit of time while checking in, watching very clever white birds fishing off the St Augustine Municipal Marina docks. One of the has learned to fish, balanced on a rope. It ran off a much larger bird to keep my attention. I did a little video of him catching and eating a tiny silver fish, the size of needles, that I will download when there is time to fiddle. St Augustine worked her magic again and had no trouble getting us to stay over an extra day. ... read more

For a change, we decided to hop on an open air tour bus that would tour us around St. Augustine. We’ve decided that all cities boast “oldest”, “smallest”, “tallest” when it comes to buildings, trees, churches! It’s the fine print that you have to read, as in “in the world”, “in the country”. And we have to figure out if they are replicas or originals, which is not always clear. Oh well, they are all beautiful to see, each with their own unique designs and personal history. St. Augustine is known for Spanish Explorer, Juan Ponce de Leon, who in his quest to discover the Fountain of Youth, landed and named Florida in 1513. Although he never discovered the spring waters which would preserve our youth, it does lend a certain romance to the city. We ... read more

On the road again and a sudden "POP!" On our trip to St. Augustine from Port St. Lucie Friday morning, the passenger side rear tire blew! Glad for the emergency road service membership. Glad for double tires on the rear of the RV. Glad for our own bathroom, snacks, Magellan GPS (so service guy knows our location), cell phones, credit cards (must pre-pay for the new tire), and computers with air card service (to keep us amused) while we wait. After a 2 plus hour delay we are back on I 95 heading north. We haven’t been to Saint Augustine in several years. It’s great to be back. We are at North Beach RV Park, located on Route A1A North between the Atlantic Ocean and the North River. The sites are separated by lush indigenous shrubs ... read more

On the road again for another long day of driving, but an hour longer. The drives are becoming a regular long stint in the van with several breaks for sugar load ups and lunch, but this one was around 4 and a half hours to the oldest city in the USA! When we finally hit St Augustine, we were let loose, and Kylie, Zoe, Scott and I went on a walk along the river front, but after only a few buildings round the block, we found a martini bar, and decided to try it out. Setting up on a table outside, Scott and I soon went in to order. Scott stuck with a good cold beer, whilst the rest of us ordered 3 different martinis to try. Having started watching M*A*S*H from a young age, I've ... read more
