We have packed so much into the last week, that it almost feels as if time has come to a stand still. Or at the very least, has lost its ability to fly. This time last weekend, we had just arrived in Truckee, a small commuter suburb to the glamorous Lake Tahoe, a summer and winter playground for the rich and famous. And we were preparing to celebrate Oliver's 10th birthday in the company of a family that Greg, Em and the kids had met in Vietnam over 7 months ago. And a wonderful weekend it was with very generous hosts Ryan and Cammie, and their children Sage and Indi. Companions of their own age were just the ticket for Amy and Oliver and made for a splendid birthday celebration. Ryan and Cammie showed us all ... read more

Today was a 100 mile drive from Mammoth lakes to Yosemite National Park. Firstly we had to put yet more fuel into Ellie, she certainly is a thirsty girl and we didn't want to run out going over Tioga Pass. As we swung out of the petrol station there was an almighty bang, crash and high pitched beep from behind inside the van. What the bleep bleep was that!!! Luckily it was only the smoke alarm falling off the ceiling, which the resident mechanic was able to fix. We continued on our way, via two scenic rides suggested in our Lonely Planet Best Californian Drives kindly provided by our daughter. We called in at the Visitors Centre at Mono Lake, another excellent and informative centre, where we could see the famous tufas. These are strange growths ... read more

Nasz trzeci i ostatni wieczór przed namioto-bungalowem w Yosemite.

It is a joy to finally get off some highways and onto some back roads. We have a 200km ride to Yosemite and we start out on some great roads travelling through farming country in the early morning light. The roads are straight and fast so the k's turn over quick. As we near Yosemite, we turn up toward the mountains, thinking how clever we are to find this lesser known road that on the map looks like it winds its way up to the national park. Generally when a road is winding it is because it is following the contours of hills and mountains, rivers and streams. This road didn't seem to follow these rules and twisted and turned for no apparent reason. The hills were still gentle and rolling and the road could have ... read more

Driving from Nevada through the Tioga we have to drive through most of the park in order to see the primo sites of El Capitan and Half Dome and the waterfall. the drive is thrilling for Angie and she loves to drive fast and take the corners like Mario Andretti but Francine is holding on to the OH SHIT bar and using her non existent brake pedal on the passenger side. We scour the countryside for bears but no luck only see a few deer her and there. But the fresh air and the cooler temps at this altitude makes it a very pleasant drive overall and we picnic in the park along side a stream and hope this is not the time we spot bears. It's a 14 hour day as we drive to Fresno ... read more

It was a relatively short hop from Monterey but we arrived into San Francisco into a busy Memorial Day bank holiday weekend. We chose well for our accommodation just behind Fisherman’s wharf a busy bustling waterfront with ferries across the bay, many eateries - including popular seafood restaurants, museums and street entertainers to make things lively. To get a flavour of what the city has to offer we jumped on a city sightseeing bus just outside our motel. The bus had live commentary delivered at a 100mph, he hardly drew breath even when we got stuck in traffic. We went past downtown SF, the Italian quarter, Chinatown and other famous parts of the city. One story we were told was the creator of the Golden Gate park who managed to actually create it on sand dunes. ... read more

To dává smysl, protože tu mají klidně 8 pruhů v jednom směru a v tomhle chaosu řešit jestli někoho předjíždím zprava nedává smysl. Navíc občas se tu z dálnice sjíždí vlevo, takže pak už v levém pruhu můžou být nejpomalejší vozidla a nikdo to neřeší. Na semaforech je možné odbočovat ... read more

The drive to Yosemite was scenic; the campground was the KOA South just outside Coursegold. It is about 25 miles from the entrance to Yosemite and then another 35 miles into the base of Yosemite main village. It was a bit far away but alas with the dimensions of the RV we couldn’t have got much closer. It’s was a 2 hour drive to get into the heart of Yosemite as the elevation goes up to about 6000 feet and the roads are steep with many turns. I have fallen in Love with Yosemite, the towering redwoods, pines, cedar, oak and white fir trees cover the valley in between the majestic granite walls of El Capitan, Half Dome and Sentinal rock to name a few. Climbers, backpackers and tourists fill this place and while it became ... read more

I took the Yart bus from Mariposa to Yosemite. At 6:15 a.m.. So I arrived arround 8 a.m. in the Park. The sun was shining, but it was still cold. I decided to hike to the lower Yosemite Fall. It is an easy trail. Before I reached the Fall, I saw several deers. One was such two meters away. The others 100 meters away. If you want to take a photo of the Fall, you stand in water mist. There was a rainbow beyond the Fall. After that I walked throgh the valley and took the Visitor shuttle bus to stop 16 and started another trail. Now it got warmer. I hiked to Vernal Fall (1538 m). Directly to Vernal Fall the trail is called Mist trail and you get a lot of water from the ... read more
