I haven’t posted any blogs since January, primarily because I have been in the same area since then. I have entitled this Lake Havasu City because the programme doesn't let you just specify an area. The Colorado River divides California from Arizona so I have been straddling the two, but mostly on the Arizona side. Several dams have been built along the Colorado, Glen Canyon Dam creates Lake Powell, the Hoover Dam creates Lake Mead, Davis Dam - Lake Mojave, and Parker Dam - Lake Havasu. I spent a month in Yuma which is only 8 miles north of the Mexican border and a very interesting place. A lot of the vegetables that are shipped all over the country are grown in Yuma. You can buy a huge bunch of asparagus for $2, and they practically ... read more

Day 5 – Lake Havasau City, Arizona – Nov 23, 2010 On our way to Lake Havasau, our first stop was at the Grand Canyon Caverns on Rt 66. This is a “dry” cavern, which was different from other caverns that I had gone to in the past. There were not many stalactites and stalagmites that one would see in the other caverns. Our tour guide was very good and shared some enlightening stories about the cavern. There is even a room set up in the cavern that you can rent at $700 a night. Our next stop was the Rt 66 Museum in Kingman. This was very interesting to learn about the road Rt 66 and how so many travelers traveled the road in the great depression to go to California to start a better ... read more

Went to McDonalds for breakfast and then drove to Lake Havasu which was only a slight detour and as London Bridge was there we thought we would go and see it. It was a beautiful area, lovely blue lake, palm trees and golden sand...you get the picture. Walked along the edge of the lake to the bridge and back again and then spent an hour cooling off in the lake as the temperature was 44oC. Drove to the Grand Canyon, determined to make it before sunset. Was a lovely drive, the scenery was very different, it was quite green everywhere and we later found out that they had been having monsoons for the last month which was quite unusual. On our drive up to the canyon it was very flat which was strange as in our ... read more

Travel to Lake Havasu and see the famous London Bridge. That's right...."London Bridge is falling down", remember that song. Well, the bridge didn't actually fall down. It was being torn down, and it was purchased by Robert McCulloch and moved to the United States. And has been at Lake Havasu ever since. If you are looking for ways to save on a trip to Lake Havasu, check out How to Travel to Lake Havasu on a Budget. There you will find listings of different things to see and do for free. There are a number of ways to save, and things to do on the cheap. While you are in the area, consider spending an extra couple of nights, and taking a day trip to some of the other local sites to see in the area. ... read more

A popular tourist attraction in Lake Havasu City is the London Bridge, which crosses a 930 ft (280 m) long man-made canal that leads from Lake Havasu (on the Colorado River) to Thompson Bay. It was bought for US $2.5 million from the City of London when the bridge was replaced in 1968. The bridge was disassembled, and the marked stones were shipped to Lake Havasu City and reassembled for another US $7 million. It opened in October 1971.... read more

Yesterday, we made a day trip to Lake Havasu City after a breakfast of corned beef hash with three basted eggs layer on the top, a side of hash browned ‘taters, all liberally doused with the spice of life; Tabasco. I forget what Nan had. Shaddy guarded The Beast. We parked where we could see him from inside the restaurant. He sits on the center console and keeps watch. He is a cute little guard, and takes his job seriously. Since our route was through Quartzite, we exited on Dome Rock Road for a glimpse at those RVers who dry camp out on public lands. It makes Nan and Shad nervous when ever I investigate dry camping areas. A neighbor woman at the rv place we are staying mentioned to Nan a little community being developed ... read more

1st may, 2009 Up early and away, went out through the Joshua Tree national park to a place named Cottonwood at the south end of the park, well disappointment here, it was listed as an Oasis - NOT!!!!!!!!!!. Never mind moved on and up Highway 10 to Quartzite where we stopped for lunch. The photo of the RV is us parked between two big rigs. We are now in Arizona. Off and up to Big River RV park which is on the Californian side of the Colorado River, across the river is Parker, what does my idiot driver do (thats me) but takes out the entrance post to the RV park with the RV - well done Craig, Sam was so nice and I only bent the steps to the bedroom. The Colorado River is beautiful, ... read more

2nd May, 2009 Had a great nights sleep, weather is warm and there was a nice breeze. Today we went up to Lake Havasu, on the Parker Dam - talk about boys and their toys, this is where all the yuppies come with their speed boats - some powered by twin V8's and some even turboed. They aren't there for anything other than showing off their toys and their bodies, ladies and gentlemen you would have loved it - see the photo's. The city of Lake Havasu was built by none other than Mr McCullough (thats right Mr chainsaws himself) in 1986 so everything is brand spanking. Lots of money so why not take down the London Bridge and rebuild it over here at a cost of 7.1 mill - yep he did it. The original ... read more

Ever see those episodes of the show Arrested Development and "Wee Britain?" If not, it's hilariously funny, so go watch it. Lake Havasu was surprisingly nice. It was almost as if we drove up, expecting Lake Havasu to be extremely crappy and full of disappointment. Guess not - there was a nice lake, mountains everywhere, and a miniature version of the London Bridge. The rock for this bridge was brought over (from England - oooh ahh) a while ago to make the recreation. Pretty interesting, and reminded us of "Wee Britain." It was quaint, and there is a short boat ride to the casino across the lake. We were too tired to go, but a nice drunk lady gave us $5 in chips to use; we'll use those for souvenirs. Nothing like a random oasis in ... read more

Right now there's a very ambitious kitten to my left playing with a kitchen sink. Anyhoo, Lake Havasu is effing HOT... or at least that's what the temperature reads (114 F mid day and 109 F at night). But it doesn't FEEL like what I thought 114 weather would feel like. So, I think this is going to be a match made in heaven; Desert Heaven. The drive was long and arduous, but I made it. Jenae is doing so well for herself! She seems really happy, her boy (Jeff) is wonderful, and her house is AMAZING. Also, Jeff is in Pest Control and he let me in on all the little critters I could potentially encounter whilst in Tucson... Holy Hell. Bu.let point... it's effin' hot. ... read more
