Patti, Karl, Mike and I spent a Saturday in Lake Havasu City. We enjoyed exploring the area, attending Taylor & Tyler's wedding, and celebrating Karl's birthday. This city on the Colorado River offers watersports, hiking, off-roading, and an opportunity to see the original London Bridge. It was bought by a local businessman and reconstructed in the town. It is a major tourist attraction.... read more

Offenbar einsam, denn mehrere sprachen mich an. Das Gras würde braun, ... read more

Geo: 34.474, -114.346After the unspeakable damage Dusty Dave did to Puffy The Pillow during our ATV adventure it was time for a couple of groin- friendly (but still 65th birthday worthy) events. To that end we made the relatively long drive to Lake Havasu to visit London Bridge (without telling Dave). London Bridge?? In Arizona??In 1896 the bridge was the busiest point in London, England, and one of its most congested; 8,000 pedestrians (including Dusty Dave?) and 900 vehicles crossed every hour. Surveys showed that the bridge was sinking about 2.5 cm every 8 years. The bridge would have to be removed and replaced. In 1968, the bridge was sold to an American, Missourian entrepreneur Robert P. McCulloch of McCulloch Oil, for US$2,460,000. The claim that McCulloch believed mistakenly that he was buying the more impressive ... read more

Howdy, the gun slinging, Stetson wearing foursome are heading to the Wild West with an itinerary taking in the states of Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota, Montana, Arizona ++and starting in Las Vegas. The trip started as Jane and Pete coming to Jane's cousin's 50th birthday bash, us deciding to come along too as we did this trip about 15 years ago but on a coach tour which had been brilliant but not enough time in all these wonderful places, so now we have a month and with 4 cameras at the ready, don't accept any invites to view our holiday snaps as you will be there for days. By the way, the cousin decided to go back to UK for his birthday so we altered our itinerary, the cousin then changed his mind and decided to ... read more

In order to catch the sunrise from Yaki Point we rose at 5am (a much more agreeable time than 4am as would have needed to do in Death Valley). Yaki Point is only accessible to the free shuttles around the park, so we headed to the Visitor Information Centre, and caught the shuttle from there. Observed an interesting phenomena in the sky, and we are still not sure exactly what it was. Emma thought it might have been a shooting star and made a wish just in case, but the bus driver thought it looked like an exploding fuselage from an aircraft. Not sure exactly, and pray that is not the case, but if it was what the driver thought, please don't worry Mum - we were not on it. Perfect weather today, so the sunrise ... read more

Parts of America have big spaces…..& this was one of ‘em! The drive to Yavapai Lodge was “only” around 150 miles, but much of it was through area’s given back to the “Native Americans” in a deal many years ago. Of course you could see why it would be given away: dry, hot (car showed 90-101 degrees most of the way) and really nothing much to say for itself. Thank goodness for SAT Alt Nation rock on the radio - a fabulous find ! Bordered by impressive plateau such as the Vermillion Cliffs, the land itself was just a loooong road punctuated by many stalls propped up by the road with Native American gifts. We stopped at a couple: pleasant chats & a few gifts bought, but the finest was the last, where the nicest Navajo ... read more

Wednesday morning we went to Skip and Mary’s for breakfast. Mary went to Einstein’s and got their wonderful bagels, Gena brought some of their country eggs, and we brought sausage. After this huge breakfast we loaded up into 2 cars and set out first for Skip’s church in Chandler, south of Phoenix, then to Mary’s church, north of where they live. Both very nice churches and we got to meet their church secretaries and some other nice people. Then back to their house, where we had sliders for lunch. Then Gena bathed the dog, the men fell asleep and we did some laundry. Gena, Mary and I sat and visited and looked at pictures most of the afternoon. Mary had a meeting that night, so Skip took us to dinner at a sports bar and grill ... read more

Oasis in the middle of nowhere Another morning, a goods night sleep and Steve is up early to take some pictures of the sunrise, our room faces a street with low profile Spanish style adobe buildings and for some reason it brings on a peacefulness. We get some breakfast at the motel and it's good, Steve especially likes the omellet with cheese! It's starting to get warm as we head out to the Joshua Tree National Park and we're amazed at the size of the huge rocks here, just amazing. There are Joshua Trees everywhere and there quite unusual, little skinks are running about the place and its very barren except for the Joshua Trees, which looks like a cross between a cactus and a tree! There are people rock climbing, picnicking and bike riding, seriously I ... read more
