Paddymac - Paddrick (Paddy)

Paddrick (Paddy) I enjoy traveling and photography in the Pacific Northwest, USA. My trailboss and I, along with our faithful pup Shaddow, have upgraded from a lightweight, fold-out, tent trailer to a more comfortable 5th wheel with slideouts. We are old, retired, on social security and medicare. Push button camping is more suited to our condition. We plan to expand our northwest boundaries a bit.

Many of my "wildscapes" images are offered for view and sale at my online gallery; NW Exposures. And I enjoy writing about our travels and photo safaries.

Report from the Road; Uncle Joe’s shakedown cruise. We recently acquired a HitchHiker 5th wheel. This is a report of our shakedown cruise on the west side of the Olympic Peninsula. We left port Monday morning May 12, 20009 about 11 a.m.; hitched up and headed west for the Pacific Ocean. We found the day loaded with drizzle. The Beast has a gps navigation system that provides vocal turn-by-turn narration to a destination. We arrived at the Dunes RV Resort in Copalis, WA, notwithstanding the turn-by-turn narration. “At the next intersection make a legal U-turn.&rdq [View Full Entry]

This past week, we finally made our much anticipated trip to the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. Read more about this gorgeous place at John Day Website Moreover, there are at least three separate sections of the John Day Fossil Beds, and our focus was on the Painted Hills section near Mitchell Oregon. As described online, the Painted Hills Unit contains 3,132 acres of scenic marvels unique even in the Pacific Northwest. Located 9 miles northwest of Mitchell, and 75 miles east of Bend, the Painted Hills are visited year-round [View Full Entry]

From other posts in this blog, you have read about (and have seen photos of) some of my fishing trips on the glacier fed rivers on the west side of the Olympics, flowing into the Pacific Ocean. In the fall when the rains return after summer time, the fresh flow of water triggers the senses of sa [View Full Entry]

Paddy Mackin of NW Exposures and his two faithful grips (Nan and Shaddy) made a twelve day photo safari in early October to the east side of the Cascade Range in Washington State. The caravan was comprised of a lightweight, fold-out Quicksilver tent trailer towed behind a four cylinder, sure-footed, all-wheel- drive Subaru Forester. This combo downshifts from 5th to 3rd gear going up steeper inclines, and sometimes crawls up a very steep ascent in second gear, often behind of creep of slow 18 wheelers. The first photo destination on the safari was 5-star rated, 300 foot Clear Cre [View Full Entry]

At the end of July when the temperature in Thurston County exceeded 100 degrees, the Oly Trio (Paddy, faithful wife Nan and faithful pooch Shaddy) escaped for four nights to the Cougar Rock campground on the slopes of Mt. Rainier in the cool view of the nearby glaciers. The images in the blog can be viewed, and are available for purchase, at NW Exposures. I’m a wildscapes photographer living in Olympia, Washington. In addition to my online gallery, I participate in art shows and festivals. We towed our Quicksilver light-weight-aluminum, f [View Full Entry]

In late September 2005, NW Exposures took a photo safari from the southern Washington coast, down the Oregon coast to Cape Sebastian. We were on the hunt for beaches, sea stacks and lighthouses. We were not disappointed. See the best of the photos from the trip at NW Exposures. Our lightweight Quicksilver fold-out tent camper was hitched to the four cylinder Subaru Forester, and we were off in the direction of the furthermost southwestern tip of Washington State. We crossed over the Columbia River from Washington to Oregon at Lo [View Full Entry]

In late May, 2005, as the crowds were heading out for the long holiday weekend, your Oly trio returned from a four day photo safari to Silver Falls State Park, east of Salem, Oregon. It is about a 3 hour drive for us. We arrived at Silver Falls the previous Monday afternoon and had most of the campground to ourselves in a beautiful site next to a burbling stream. Someone has to do this work of capturing magnificent images of spectacular exposures of our great Northwest. Images from this expedition are available for view and purchase in my online gallery at [View Full Entry]

It was our first outing since our trip last September east to the Grande Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks. Many of the photos made on this trip are available for view and purchase from my online gallery at NW Exposures Earlier this year I had a 12 volt water pump system installed in the Q'silver and this was our first time to try it out. Photos of Mt. St. Helens are available for viewing and purchase at my online gallery - NW Exposures. In early fall of 2004, Mt. St. Helens spoke, again. An earthquake swarm of small quakes bopped below the lava dame; a "hazardous event" was possible. Seismic activity continued accelerating. Earthquake intensities and occurrences continued to rise. In the near vicinity to the volcano, earthquakes were felt as much as four in one minute. The largest earthquake recorded was 3.3 on the Richter Scale. On October 1, 2004, a plume of ash and steam pro [View Full Entry]
