North Head Light in SW Washington State
In late September 2005, NW Exposures took a photo safari from the southern Washington coast, down the Oregon coast to Cape Sebastian. We were on the hunt for beaches, sea stacks and lighthouses. We were not disappointed. See the best of the photos from the trip at NW Exposures. Our lightweight Quicksilver fold-out tent camper was hitched to the four cylinder Subaru Forester, and we were off in the direction of the furthermost southwestern tip of Washington State. We crossed over the Columbia River from Washington to Oregon at Lo [View Full Entry]

In late May, 2005, as the crowds were heading out for the long holiday weekend, your Oly trio returned from a four day photo safari to Silver Falls State Park, east of Salem, Oregon. It is about a 3 hour drive for us. We arrived at Silver Falls the previous Monday afternoon and had most of the campground to ourselves in a beautiful site next to a burbling stream. Someone has to do this work of capturing magnificent images of spectacular exposures of our great Northwest. Images from this expedition are available for view and purchase in my online gallery at [View Full Entry]

In late April, 2005 Nan, Shad and I made a photo safari to the Columbia Gorge towing our light weight Quicksilver fold-out tent trailer behind our Subi Forester. It was our first outing since our trip last September east to the Grande Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks. Many of the photos made on this trip are available for view and purchase from my online gallery at NW Exposures Earlier this year I had a 12 volt water pump system installed in the Q'silver and this was our first time to try it out. Momma, the trail boss, is happy. That means [View Full Entry]

Photos of Mt. St. Helens are available for viewing and purchase at my online gallery - NW Exposures. In early fall of 2004, Mt. St. Helens spoke, again. An earthquake swarm of small quakes bopped below the lava dame; a "hazardous event" was possible. Seismic activity continued accelerating. Earthquake intensities and occurrences continued to rise. In the near vicinity to the volcano, earthquakes were felt as much as four in one minute. The largest earthquake recorded was 3.3 on the Richter Scale. On October 1, 2004, a plume of ash and steam pro [View Full Entry]

Shaddy loved our log cottage at Tigh-Na-Mara Resort in Parksville on Vancouver Island, north of Nanaimo. The cottage featured a relaxing forest view. Most other accommodations have a water view of the Strait of Georgia. We spent a relaxing two nights at this special retreat. On the first afternoon we walked along the beach shore and the expanse of water that separated mainland British Columbia from the island. It was not until the next day when we returned to the beach at low tide that we realized how shallow the water was; a drying tide flat of at least a quarter [View Full Entry]

We started packing the car Saturday morning, September 20, 2003. The first items to be stowed were the inflatable kayak, air pump, paddles and life jackets, including Shaddow’s stylish, yellow puppy life jacket. Next, out came the blankets, sheets and pillows for use on the houseboat we rented online on Vancouver Island, Canada, during the first week of vacation. Shaddy is our 15 pound, stealth-black toy poodle who manages our household. The mistake occurred when I packed Shad’s friends and toys (snakey, hedgey, soft-bone and two balls to fetch) too early. He is quick to rec [View Full Entry]
