Day 1 - Saturday - Costa Atlantica We arrived at pier 19 (Port Everglades-Ft. Lauderdale) around 1:30 p.m. in Port Everglades. The garage appeared full as we kept going up and up the different levels. Finally, we found a space near an elevator and we parked. We snapped this picture from the garage. We headed down to the ship realizing that we should have dropped off the luggage beforehand. Oh well, not too much of a problem, but next time we will remember that it would be best to drop off the luggage so we won’t have to lug it all [View Full Entry]

Day 7 - Portland Maine Today we explored Portland Maine. The first thing we discovered was that the visitors map of Portland (that is practically everywhere) had an error on it. The visitor’s center was moved from the destination given on the map to an area near the train museum at the other side of the harbor. We did a lot of walking to find it. But we found it and did get some information. We visited the Observatory, which was very interesting. It’s amazing that it has survived all these years, through fires and bad storms, but it has endured [View Full Entry]

Spring Point Light - South Portland Maine
Day 6 - Maine Vacation 2009 Today we had breakfast at the restaurant adjoining our hotel called Governor's - it was vey good. Then we headed over to the Portland lighthouses to get a few pictures. We walked out to the Springpoint Light. There were a lot more gaps on that breakway than the one at Rockland. We walkd out to the lighthouse and watched a couple people who were fishing. Then we went to get a picture of the BugLight and onto Wells to meet up with Aunt Carol and Robin. Wells was easy enough to find. It was about [View Full Entry]

June 24, 2009 We decided to go back to the Penobscot Narrows Observatory today since it wasn’t open when we went by there on Sunday (on our way to Bar Harbor). Luckily for us it was open today so we got to go up to the observatory. It was fantastic. This type of bridge with an observatory is the only one on the American Continent (North and South). There are only three bridges of this kind in the world. The other two are in Thailand and Slovakia. The total length of the bridge is 2,120 feet and the weight is 126 [View Full Entry]

June 22, 2009 - Monday Today’s adventure was taking a ride across the Atlantic Ocean on the Cat Ferry from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth NS. Wow, nice little ship! We watched a movie going over and a movie going back. We arrived in Yarmouth Nova Scotia around 11:00 our time (12:00 NS time) and boarded a little tour bus. Our tour bus guide was a cute little 60 year old lady who gave us a great tour. She took us to the Cape Forchu Lighthouse where we had a nice lunch in the tea room. We both had the lobster sandwiches [View Full Entry]

Day 4 - Arcadia National Park - Maine It was such a rainy day today but we ventured out to tour the Acadia National Park. At the visitors center we purchased a CD driving tour. It was a good investment as it also includes photos of the places we were to see. The CD was very helpful. We traveled all around Mt. Desert Island and Acadia. We also saw the Bass Harbor Lighthouse which is located on the southern most tip of the island. We pretty much covered the whole 108 square miles of Mt. Desert Island. Before going back to [View Full Entry]

Sunday - June 21, 2009 We had a leisurely breakfast at the Gosnold Arms looking over the bay. The blueberry pancakes were so good. Then we headed South to Pemoquid Point to see the lighthouse. The lighthouse was closed but the view was nice and we took some pictures by the water and surrounding area. After leaving there we stopped at Fort William Henry in Pemaquid. Next we went to the Breakwater Lighthouse in Rockland. This lighthouse is situated way out into the water where you have to walk along a breakfront to get to it. The breakfront is made up [View Full Entry]

…..and we’re off to Portland Maine today June 20, 2009. A rocky start… This was the first time we have ever been paged at the airport with “last call for boarding for K&RS!” Yes, that last email from Airtran seemed to get un-noticed - the one where they moved the flight up an hour. We received a couple emails which indicated the flight changed within minutes of the scheduled time but then I guess R stopped looking at them. Poor R - I think this was his job for keeping up with this. Another lesson learned “always double check those flight [View Full Entry]

July 4th weekend - 2008 Friday we loaded up the mini van and headed to Crawfordville which is a suburb of Tallahassee. We brought our little grandson Zack (age 4) with us. It is about 280 miles from Orlando. Along the way we stopped a couple times for breaks, it took 5 hours to get there. Not bad for a little get away weekend! There are so many things to do up here, and I wish we had more time. We didn’t get to Tallahassee but we will definitely try to go there next time since I wanted to show everyone [View Full Entry]

Day 8 Dublin - A fun day in the City Today we did the hop-on/hop-off bus tour in Dublin. We picked the tour that included all the narration (the green double-decker buses) and went around to the major highlights of the city. I’m glad we went before the rain came later in the afternoon. We also went shopping a bit for some souvenirs and we had lunch at the Irish Mall (a very small mall) on Talbot Street which is right down the street from our hotel. The shepherds pie there was so good. It was nice to just sit and [View Full Entry]
