What an amazing day... We started our day at the south rim of the canyon with a helicopter ride. (Thanks for the advice mom and dad) This was an amazing experience that no one should miss out on. Truely amazing! We rode in a helicpoter with 3 other people, who were French. They had no idea we understood everything they were saying, so this added to the amuzement of the ride. After our helicopter ride we proceeded to the south rim where we rock climbed a bit, and had lunch. Then back into the FJ and off to the north rim for a glass of wine while we watched the sunset. Although the Grand Canyon is only 11 miles wide, the drive from the south rim to the north rim is 237 miles. You will not ... read more

Our final day in Vegas arrived on Saturday the 5th of August and we decided to head to some more factory outlets. On the way we had to drop into Moturis as the tyre on one of the bikes was flat. After a short chat we left with a new bike (fortunately a female one this time) and drove to the factory outlets. Once again Shane showed his true form by purchasing many things in the few hours we were there and Chris managed to restrain herself yet again. We both have been extremely surprised so far with the price of clothes at the factory outlets. Shane bought 2 pairs of boardshorts and 2 pairs of Calvin Klein jeans for US$30 and US$25 respectively. Chris finally dragged Shane out of the outlet centre and we headed ... read more

Me: I've never been on a trail with such a good view. Ted: David. We're on the Grandview Trail. Me: I'm... I'm just gonna stop talking now. Ted: That's good. Such was the conversational fare as I descended three miles to Horseshoe Mesa via the Grandview Trail on Sunday evening. Around 5:30 P.M. that day, I had been walking home, thoroughly exhausted, when my friend Ted pulled up alongside me in his truck, rolled down the window, and asked "Do you want to go hiking?" I thought for a moment about the kicks I'd taken to my legs and knees the day before in kickboxing. I thought about the hour I'd spent in the gym that morning working my legs. I thought about the hour I'd spent running three miles on the Bright Angel Trail. I ... read more

Life is good here in the Grand Canyon. Today I had to get up for work bright and early at 6 AM.... to go to the Colorado River! Woo-hoo! I dropped off a busload of temporary park workers from overseas (hailing from Moldova to Mongolia) for a four and a half hour raft trip through the Grand Canyon, killed some time in Page (you have to be both creative and easily entertained in order for this to be possible), checked out the Glen Canyon Dam (yes, it's huge), and struggled to fully submerge myself in the Colorado at Lee's Ferry. I must say I failed miserably. After taking approximately 30 minutes to acclimate my legs in increments measured in inches, I couldn't bear the icy vise grip of pain that throttled my meat and two veg ... read more

Me and Dolon visited the Grand Canyon on the 29th and 30th of May,2006.It was a much awaited and a distant wish to visit the natural wonder. This was also a trip that combined our exhilerating experience at Las Vegas,Nevada. We made a quick decision to visit Vegas and G.C while I was working at North Carolina. It was the coming of a long week end (Don't remember which one) and we wanted to visit some place beyond the East Coast.Las Vegas was the one that seemed most exciting. We took a flight to Atlanta and then a 4 hour flight to Las Vegas.More on Vegas on my next blog! We rented a Chrysler PT from our hotel in Vegas and drove down to a town called Williams. The road trip was quite an experience. In fact I had never ... read more

I love to visit Williams, Arizona which is a nice day trip only 72 miles north (1 ½ hour drive) from my home in Prescott Valley. It's located 60 miles south of the Grand Canyon and 30 miles west of Flagstaff. Known as the "Gateway to the Grand Canyon" Williams was the last town in America on Historic Route 66 to be bypassed by Interstate 40. I really enjoy the rich heritage that features the Old West and Route 66 of the 50’s and early 60’s. You can "Get your Kicks on Route 66" as a section of the old Route 66 still passes right through town There’s a lot of history and nostalgia of this mountain community. Williams was founded in the late 1800's by ranchers, railroaders, and lumbermen, The town’s name comes from the ... read more

Grand Canyon From Tuba it was on to the Grand Canyon! As we drove into the canyon there were heaps of scenic points to stop and look. It was 28oC (at 11am) but got much much hotter as the day wore on. One of the first gift shops we came across had a brick tower next to it. You could walk up the narrow winding staircase (about 4-5 stories) and get a great view out over the canyon. The whole interior was covered in Native American artwork walls and ceiling. We found our campsite and hid away from the sun for a while, later we ventured out to see the visitors centre and a couple more gift shops (that sold every type of souviner you can imagine!). We had planned to go to a Star Watch ... read more

Vinden havde ... read more

Today was 'Canyon Day'- I was going to be flown to the Canyon by plane, get into a chopper to be flown into the Canyon and then take a boat up the Colorado River and then reverse to get home. I was really looking forward to it, and at $300 it was a good price! I got picked up from the hostel and taken to a nearby airport. Looked a bit overcast, maybe even threatening rain and I hadn't packed waterproofs for my day outside at the Grand Canyon :-( Really must try and check weather forecasts! Had a cheesy photo taken of me and the pilot stood next to our 'ride' to the Canyon. Had no intention of wasting my money on it so didn't beam with enthusiasm as they took the photo... (Which was ... read more

DAY TWO We decided last night that we would just get up when we woke up this morning, knowing full well that the four-legged Girls would be whining for breakfast between 6 and 7. Surprisingly, Kiyoshi and Kaida actually slept until almost 8:00!! So, Kathryn attempted to sneak out of the motel room, girls in tow to feed them outside and beg them to finally relieve themselves (we won’t go into detail about how long it had been!) We packed up and headed out to the Grand Canyon, in the rain again and a cool 60°. We felt pretty silly once we were outside because we had dressed for the weather the day before, remember, about 30° hotter?? We stopped in Tusayan and had a tasty lunch at We Cook Pizza & Pasta, yes that’s what ... read more
