“A month in Spain” by Chris xo After I said a tearful goodbye to Shane at the airport and headed through security I pulled myself together (very efficiently) and headed to my departure gate. After a long wait the flight finally boarded and I found myself sitting next to a man, who was to become the most annoying person ever to sit next to on a flight. He drove me crazy for the entire 10 hours and prevented me from getting a wink of sleep. Before the flight had even left he had already taken his shoes and socks off and started scratching away madly at his feet. He also made a throaty noise every 30 seconds, picked his nose, wore intoxicatingly bad cologne and constantly leant on me and stretched his feet into my ... read more

Well here we are again.... How time flys quickly when your having fun. We last left off with Chris promising that she would head to the hill shortly, or was it maybe or even probably not! Can't remember now.... but either way you will find out shortly. December appeared before we knew it and Bridget (Chris' sister) was knocking down our front door to take control of our day lounge (or now know as the Den) for the next month. Bridget kindly travelled over for 4 weeks to spend Christmas and New Years with Chris. During the end of November Chris decided that seeing as though she was going to spend as little time on the mountain skiing as possible she would spend her time working, and working is what she did. Chris started working at ... read more

Well it was some time ago now but we settled into our new home in Whistler on October 1st and started looking for things to do until the mountains opened for the season. On October 8th Chris headed with Laura to see the salmon spawning (where salmon swim up the river to mate). The trip was made eventful by the dindgy looking suspension bridge which Chris crossed, the whole time thinking she was doomed. We both started working and earning some much needed $$$. After spending time in the US and moreso lots of money it was great to finally have an income and be settled again for a few months before embarking on our next leg of the trip. We managed to head to our first ever ice hockey match between Alberta Uni and Uni ... read more

Hi everyone... Well its definately been awhile since we have updated this blog of ours. Sorry for the late entry and for those that have already heard all of what we have to say... Have a read anyway : ) After flying from Chicago we officially arrived in Canada on the 23rd of September. We made it through the relatively easy customs at Vancouver airport and collected our work visas ready to earn some much needed cash! Chris's friend Erin (who lives in Vancouver with her mum (Linda) and sister (Kaite)) met us at the airport and Shane was surprised when after a few years apart neither of them shed any tears. He even had the camera ready in case. The trip to Erin's place was via downtown Vancouver where Erin managed to do a good ... read more

We woke on Friday the 15th of September and went in search of the famous Niagara Falls. We managed to avoid the parking stations (including the apparant free one in Lonely Planet which is now $10) and found a secluded park for free about 1km from the falls. Whilst driving around looking for the car space we drove past the falls and it was amazing to see the spray coming off the water. Shane had to turn on the windscreen wipers and people on the side of the road were wearing attractive vinyl ponchos. Upon catching our first glimpse of the Falls we were both totally amazed by the power and amount of water going over every second. It is so much more amazing in person and thinking of all the people that have been over ... read more

We spent the next two days driving the 500 miles to Sandusky, Ohio. On Thursday the 7th of September we stayed overnight at a travel stop in Parmersburg. During the night we were both awoken by a strange man knocking on the window near our table. We both were surprised and then a little worried. Shane got up and heroically took a sneak peek out the window to find a very suspicious character standing there and then a second knock occurred... We ignored him and then watched as he moved onto the next car. Shane said he was probably asking for money. Like he was going to get any from us after waking us at 3am! On Friday the 8th of September we drove into Ohio and stopped at the visitors centre. Shane was ordered out ... read more

Well Tropical Storm Ernesto has been changed to Hurricane Ernesto and Chris and Shane are now trying to work out whether to flee Florida or try and survive the beast. After our Airboat ride we headed to Miami and drove around the South Beach area. There were characters everywhere and traffic was hurrendous. We ended up staying at a Walmart about 10 miles out of town but briefly stopped at a Motorhome Park nearby to slyly fill up our freshwater tank that was in dire straights. That night we headed to an internet cafe to try and see the latest on Hurricane Ernesto. After much deliberation (and being worried as the locals fled to Walmart for canned food and bottled water) we decided the best bet would be to head up the West Coast... and quickly. ... read more

August 25th 2006

We spent the next three days of the trip driving to Fort Myers, Florida. The drive was long and tedious however we did have a few unusual experiences along the way. On Monday the 21st of August we stayed the night in Mobile, Alabama. When we arrived, we headed to the local library and bought a few groceries at the supermarket. Once back at the campsite the drama began to unfold. Shane found a friendly cat who he invited into the motorhome. Chris decided to pat and play with the cat before... IT BIT HER... Now normally in Australia this would be fine but due to Chris recently reading a novel where a character died from Rabies, Chris almost immediately started hyperventaliting believing that she may have caught the virus. After trying to calm Chris down ... read more

We woke on Monday the 15th of August, our first day in San Antonio, to find it disgustingly hot... It was at this stage, due to parking on a slope for the night that we realised our fridge was no longer working. Shane had decided he had had enough of the loud constant banging noise we were subjected to in the motorhome whilst driving over 50mph so he decided to give the rental company a call. After a few calls and Shane speaking to a few useless staff members he was told to take off the metal mud guard on the drivers side as it sounds like it had cracked. Due to his limited skills in the mechanical industry Shane thought it best to head to a mechanic (although he did have a look and despite ... read more

Our final day in Vegas arrived on Saturday the 5th of August and we decided to head to some more factory outlets. On the way we had to drop into Moturis as the tyre on one of the bikes was flat. After a short chat we left with a new bike (fortunately a female one this time) and drove to the factory outlets. Once again Shane showed his true form by purchasing many things in the few hours we were there and Chris managed to restrain herself yet again. We both have been extremely surprised so far with the price of clothes at the factory outlets. Shane bought 2 pairs of boardshorts and 2 pairs of Calvin Klein jeans for US$30 and US$25 respectively. Chris finally dragged Shane out of the outlet centre and we headed ... read more
