Well, after 15hrs and 3944 miles of flying, 3 trains, and a taxi ride we finally made it to our hotel. lol I have never been so happy to arrive at a destination. We ended having to take an extra train because "someone" thought that they were on the right one.... we won't discuss that right now though. The hotel is the cat's meow. We did have to ask for a room with two beds though. One double bed is just not enough, so now we have two twin beds. So far mom is surviving the trip but I think that she will either arrive home sore and beat up or just sick. It is definately colder here than I expected. After we arrived at the hotel and unpacked all of our stuff we hit the ... read more

Christmas is over and I have received lots of presents for my travels, including a huge rucksack *this big*, a million different travel bits including a survival kit from my brother, Mark, and an SAS survival book from Simone (hopefully wont be needing them). Cory got me an awesome little leather book to put all my little ticket stubs and memories in (really nice thought - cheers!). Also got a spork (spoon/fork/knife all-in-one), inflatable pillow, clever little soap slices, poncho, an amazing quick-dry towel and even a travel Su Doku (thanks Andrew). There is probably some bits I forgot. 11 days of paid work remaining and then I'm off on the 17th January 2007 for about 6 1/2 months. My travel chum, Andrew, seems to be a seasoned traveller since exploring China this summer, but this ... read more

Road trip! Kevin & I pack all our bags into the car, anyone would think that we were going for weeks, but it's only two days. A girl can never be too prepared, hair straightner, warm clothes, going out clothes, casual clothes, make up, shoes, the list goes on. Kevin has one small bag containing everything he needs, typical! We get to Newcastle after a 2 - 3 hours drive arriving in miserable weather but not as cold as we thought it would be. Our hotel ends up being really nice and big considering I was trying to cut down on costs by going for a cheaper hotel. We settle in and I phone Vicki as we have plans to head out in Newcastle that night. I've heard so many good things about going out in ... read more

Evening travel fans! Been a few days so better update you on how the travelling is going so far. We've moved on to our second location and once again been the recipients of free accommodation with plenty of beer and wine thrown in. We've landed in the heart of an unusual place named Essex. Been a bit scary so have actually not left the safe haven of this dwelling we're staying in. The family here are again, very hospitable and I never seem to be left with an empty glass, especially as I have been helping myself and getting booze in for Mrs Deane. In many ways it is a very traditional family setting with three generations all living under the one roof but I must admit it is very crowded. All together there are 13 ... read more

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope every one had a wonderful Christmas, I know I sure did! I should really start up where my last blog ended, going to a pub lunch to meet Anna and Ben. It was really lovely to catch up with them both, I hadn't seen them since their wedding last December. We all enjoyed a lunch over some beers and ended up taking some rather silly photo's!! We ended up making plans to all meet up again in the New Year. Christmas day started with presents, it felt a bit odd not being home and not getting so many presents! But what I did get was lovely, and I had a great morning. It was then all hands on deck as we got ready for the 'Orphans Christmas Dinner' which we were ... read more

The family descended on England for Christmas this year. There were 19 of us filling a youth hostel rented out in Hathersage, not far from Sheffield (a nice hostel with a huge kitchen and lots of nearby walks if you're looking for one). A lovely little town-the churchyard up on the hill is home to Little John's grave which was really cool to see. Some incredible views and then of course the typical rolling hills covered in sheep, cows, horses, ancient stone walls covered in moss and a creek (river?) winding its way through. An excellent time was had by all with lots and lots of good cooking (which of course means good eating) wonderful walks, lots of singing, decorating, and then more eating alongside stories and games and of course lots of tea!!... read more

Neil invited us to his new flat which is just off Tower Bridge Road in Bermondsey. He is sharing it with a friend from university, Ray and it is a spacious 2 bedroomed third floor apartment. Much amusement was had by the football game Leigh had bought Neil for Christmas. It was like the teletubbies playing soccer. NB He has bought Iris a remote controlled helicopter!! Happy New Year to everyone.... read more

What happens when you get a bunch of strong willed Aussies together in the Cotswolds with a plan to cook their own Christmas day lunch? You get more food than said Aussies could finish if they were to eat solidly for a week!! I am sure that no Christmas menu was ever as hotly debated as this one. Think of all the foods that you think 'it would not be Christmas without....' and multiply that by 10, and you will start to get the picture. You know it is getting complicated when even the veggos start giving opinions as to what meats should be eaten on Christmas Day. On the plus side, however, it did mean that we had amazing food, and plenty of leftovers for Boxing Day! As you can guess from the above, I ... read more

I was supposed to bein Paris for Christmas. But, with the insight and suggestions made by my mom's cousin and a very special friend from the US, I decided to stay in London for Christmas. To be completely honest, I do not regret it and never will. Looking back on Christmas now, I cannot even imagine what it would have being alone in Paris during Christmas. So I was in London with my mom's cousin and his partner for Christmas Eve, Chritmas day and Boxing day. It really has been a wonderful experience attending so many parties and visits, meeting so many people and stuffing me with fod to say the least. But seriously now, it really has been a wonderful Christmas and I'm so happy knowing people with such strong and good influence in my ... read more
