We got through customs and baggage within the hour and right away found the National Express ticket booth and bought our bus tickets into central London!! So this morning we had a guest speaker named Andy Golding, he is the director of photography at University of London Westminster. He was absolutely amazing. He was so enthusiastic and genuinely interested in us learning something about photography and life from his lecture. I would love to take a class from him, if it was a possibility I would definatly come here for a semester after I graduate and learn from him. The work we saw at the gallery yesterday was his students and the quality was so good. I could just go on about him forever. After class Meg, B-Town, Christina and I went down to the Park/Graveyard and took pictures for our projects. I think I am going to be focusing on the different food in London rather than couples because I ... read more

“Who’s Jim” is my usual response to “I’ve been to the gym” and now I am one of you!! What has happened, having never stepped in a gym I have JOINED one!!! Actually rather pleased as I can now go swimming lots, before work/at lunch/in the evenings! This not only will help me get fitter (my stomach is growing - perhaps all those entries about food give that away!) but it actually is making me feel better generally. More awake, less grumpy and refreshed. The sauna is also nice, helps me chill down whilst heating up after my swimming. The gym has a golf course that I can use (the 9 hole 3 par bit, and yes I do know what that means - well sort of!). It also has a steam room and hot tub. ... read more

We already decided that there was only one festival we would go to this year and that would be Glastonbury. If we couldn’t get tickets, we weren’t doing any. Luckily for us, Baz’s work has super speedy internet access and he managed to secure our tickets and 16 of our mates. So we were off again! And this time, much better prepared. All the camping gear, plus baby wipes, plus Sanex, plus GUMBOOTS. I have never been happier to own and be wearing a pair of shoes. These babies saved me. And I think Bazza was definitely glad he didn’t rely on positive thinking this year. Glasto didn’t fail to live up to it’s reputation. Whilst we didn’t get any flooding this year, it rained every day, we got about 5 hrs sunshine over the whole ... read more

Beautiful, my GPS expired at Exeter, so had to do the final bit on my own. Had a pretty reasonable journey on the way down, especially considering I had been sent pretty close to Glastonbury! Got stuck for ages on the road not that far from the Eden Project, but eventually found my way to Penzance and down a narrow, potted track - impressive looking building! Managed to park, and made way inside to be greeted by enthusiastic Jon Laurie, our trainer for the weekend with Travellers' Tales… people were either photographers or writers, and I was looking for writing ideas! Found my room, and unpacked, nose adjusting to the rather musty smell! Went for a walk round the headland, and looked out to Sea, across to Lizard Point. In for a lovely first meal, with ... read more

Our host Peter drove us into London and dropped us off at Buckingham Palace just in time for the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. From there we had a scenic walk through St. James Park over to Trafalgar Square. We spent a long time in the National Gallery and made good use of the audio guides. Julia and Dad's favourie was Sampson and Delilah by Rubens. Mom was particularly thrilled by Rembrandt. I can hardly choose... I enjoyed the pieces by Turner very much. After the NG we walked around London, seeing Covent Gardens and Leicester Square. We finished the day with a gruelling 3 hour drive back to Chalfont St. Giles. Mary's dinner was all the more enjoyable for it. -Erica ... read more

London Part II Thursday, June 21 This morning we had a presentation on WAGGGS and their purpose. We were then divided into two groups—half of us went to The National Gallery while the others went to Camden Market. The National Gallery was amazing. It was incredible to be standing directly in front of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. It was mind-blowing to be looking at one of the most famous painting in the world and it was so close I could stick out my hand and touch it. Monet’s Water Lilies painting was also cool. When you got close you could see all the individual brush strokes but when you backed up and admired the picture from afar you got to see the whole thing. I also enjoyed Picasso’s Child With a Dove. This one he painted ... read more

Another busy day at work... I like it that way. I didn't really do a whole lot of interesting stuff today... laminated, worked on putting together things for the Cloakroom for tomorrow's event, making cue cards for the host of the event, etc. etc. They kept me quite occupied! Oh and it was funny, I answered the phone earlier today and it was one of my coworkers calling... he immediately said "Why hello, Erin!" I was so surprised how he could already recognize my voice! Then after hanging up I realized that I am the only one in the office with an American accent. Woops! haha! Tomorrow I'll spend the whole day setting up for another event, so it will be a nice getaway from the office, and the events are more fun anyways!! Quite chilly ... read more

We're in the hostel in London. The flight was fine, minus some very violent turbulance and a seat partner who liked to take up a lot of space. Going through passport control took forever, but we're here and excited to explore the city! -Stacey I'd like to add that I was not the bad seat partner as we were sitting across the aisle from one another. :-) _Alisa... read more
