So, quick one before dinner and my walking ghost tour of the "Most Haunted City in England." Good day so far, hanging out with some peope, seeing the sights. Having dinner in 30 minutes, but wanted to post something today, in case I don't get the chance later. Getting to be better friends with the Australians, very nice people, as you would expect. The ride in was rather uneventful with one kind of cool stop off. The truck stops in the UK are awesome. Really cool restauraunts, slot machine rooms, big bathrooms with strange urinals. Would have taken a pic of one, but was not sure on the British attitude towards bathroom photography. It was very nice, almost bought a DVD of "Hot Fuzz" but it would have worked out to $40, and that seemed a ... read more

On the first weekend in June I met up with my mate Warwick, who had been doing the 'great castle tour' of Scotland and Northern England, in York. Was great to catch up with another Aussie friend, and to check out the walled city of York (I love a good wall!!). Why does it have the wall? To keep the rabbits out, of course. Just jokes, the wall dates back to Roman times where they protected a Roman fort, but were later used when York was invaded by the Vikings and Normans ... and to protect against anti-tax rioters. Apparently, York has more intact city walls that any other city in England, most other cities having destroyed theirs when the town began to extend beyond them (good tourist value foresight by someone!). There are about 2.5 ... read more

On Friday I went to York (about an hour and a half by train from Knutsforf) with Vicki and Steve. We had fantastic time. We started by getting a pub lunch. The pub was located down an alley and in a converted cellar. We stumbled on it by accident but the food was excellent. I had fish and chips-- as every good tourist should-- the peas were not mushy but I still did not eat them! Next Vicki and I went to York Minster, which is the largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe. There has been 5 cathedrals on the site starting with one built in 627. The current cathedral was finished in 1427. There are so many details I can't even begin to describe the cathedral. There are dozens of stain glass windows, including one ... read more

YorkAriana and Lachlan Last weekend was the May Day long weekend in the UK so we decided it was time to venture out of our now comfortable Nottinghamshire and investigate what England has to offer. Just a quick train ride north we found historic York, a city we hadn’t heard much about before arriving in the UK apart from a pudding meant to be eaten with meat and a nursery rhyme about an old Duke. The York city centre is enclosed by a stone wall which must have been built by Emperor Nasi Goreng to keep the rabbits out (ha!), or more accurately by the Romans to keep intruders out. Obviously they needed it because since 71AD York has been occupied by the Romans, the Anglo-Saxons, the Vikings, William the Conqueror, the Normans… and most recently ... read more

Many of you have been requesting that I hurry up and write a new entry for the diary. The politest request that I have received recently came from one of my fans in the mid East, who informed me that should I fail to deliver something new within 24 hours, another fatwa would be issued against me. You see, this is why we don't advertise our address on the website. Being somewhat behind now, my memories of what we got up to at York might be a little, warped. It could be that I'll end up writing more fiction than fact, but that has never stopped me before. As that bloke said "never let the truth get in the way of a good story". York has been populated more or less continuously since cows first crawled ... read more

Scotter to YorkStacey Morford Hiya! On this day we drove a little over an hour to the West and a bit North for a day trip to York. This is a medieval city. Much of it's medieval history is still visible today. Starting with York Minster. This cathedral took 250 years to build and was finished and consecrated in 1472. More pictures to come when we get to tour the inside. It is said to have a beautiful collection of stained glass. They are constantly doing refurbishing to the building. In the photos you can see where old stones have been replaced with new based on the coloring of the stones. There is a medieval city wall that still circles the city--it is a 2.5 mile walk. We mostly walked around the town center. Lots of ... read more

So it's officially Spring Break here in Scotland which means 4 glorious weeks of fun and relaxation. I do have exams in a month or so but classes are done, papers are done, no grades are in but hey who cares it's spring time in Scotland! But it's still cold and rainy and seems very not spring like besides the millions of daffodils which cover everything. Literally they're everywhere, every park and hill has them, even the hill and rocks on the castle as covered with yellow. I'm not too sure how the flowers decided it was time to bloom when it's still freezing but maybe it's a "now or never" type of situation. In a country where it's always between 40 and 50 degrees I suppose you'll take what you can get. I received ... read more

Sorry for the lack of chronological order here guys, I intended to get this posted before the London blog but I have been very busy with essays so it’s a bit out of whack. Our weekend in York was two weeks before London, just so you know. Meags, George and I had the opportunity to spend the weekend in York with George’s flatmate, Ali and her family. So taking advantage of this, we left Friday morning to the train station to start our day long journey north to the early medieval city of York. We dropped into Norwich on the way to the station picking up gifts for our host family and getting breakfast so by the time we caught the next bus, we had to wait for the 11:57 train. We travelled to our next ... read more

Hello everyone. My adventure is now over, or at least my Asian adventure. I arrived home in York just over a week ago and have been busy ever since. We got home fine after arising at 4:30 am in Mumbai, getting a taxi to the airport, flying for 2 hours to Dubai, waiting for 2 hours then flying for 8 hours to Manchester where we are picked up by Sam’s mum and I was by 9:30 pm. This blog is by way of a conclusion and look back at the last six months. Firstly, thank you all for reading (more people seem to have read these than I thought) and I hope you haven’t found them to boring. The last six months have been a hell of an adventure and one that I wouldn’t have missed ... read more
