I started out the day at St Paul’s Cathedral in London. By this time I should be tired of cathedrals (and truthfully I was getting a bit tired of them!), but I am glad I went ahead and went to St. Paul’s. There has been a church on the site for over 1400 years and the latest was started in 1675 and took 35 years to build. It was the first English Cathedral to be completed in the architect’s lifetime. When you are there you can definitely tell why it took 35 years to complete. It is absolutely breathtaking! Especially when [View Full Entry]

Unfortunately for you my stay in London won’t be near as interesting as the rest of my trip so far. Between John’s instructions and the very efficient and easy to use underground I never got lost! It doesn’t make any sense does it? I get hopelessly lost in Stratford-Upon-Avon (which you could walk from tip to tip in a day but London is a piece of cake! I got up much later than I intended to because I of lack of sleep the last two nights. I went in to London and made my way to Tate Modern, which was easy [View Full Entry]

On Tuesday the 10th, I got up late (AGAIN). This time it wasn’t my fault! The girl in the bunk above snores but it was REALLY LOUD because she was drunk. Neither Kara or I could sleep. Usually if I knocked on the bottom of the bunk she would turn over and stop snoring for long enough for us to fall asleep, but no such luck this time. We decided to go downstairs and maybe walk around outside. There were way too many drunk people so we decided to watch the end of the movie playing in the movie room. Unfortunately, [View Full Entry]

Kara and I actually got up in time to eat breakfast! Yey! We wanted to make it to the Palace of Holyroodhouse as early as possible because it has been very busy. The Palace is the Queen's official residence in Scotland. She was in residence about a week before I got to Edinburgh. The palace is closed to visitors during her stay so a lot of people were trying to get in after she left. The palace was beautiful, as every palace should be! We were not allowed to take photos inside so you will have to wait to see my [View Full Entry]

The next day…. We both intended to get up early (early means before 9) but it didn’t happen. We got up close to 11 (which means we missed breakfast). We hopped on the shuttle to town and then tried to find a place to eat. We both wanted breakfast food but it was near impossible to find. We finally settled on Starbucks and got muffins and fruit. Next we stopped at the tourist center and booked a tour of the Vaults (part of the underground city) for that afternoon. We jumped on a bus and went to the Edinburgh Zoo. [View Full Entry]

I am going to lump several days together because 1) I didn't do that much and 2) photography wasn't allowed. June 29th On June 29th I went to the National Museum of Ireland - History and Archaeology. I couldn't take pictures inside but there are several things I saw that were amazing. The first was tons of gold objects that had been recovered from the Hill of Tara and the Hill of Slane (which I visited a week or so before). It was very cool to be in the area and then see the objects that were excavated. They had [View Full Entry]

I hope everyone is ok with all the flooding going on. The weather is going crazy everywhere it seems. Dublin is getting heavier and more actual rain than usual. The UK is also getting heavy rain. Southern Europe is having a terrible heat wave. Close to 120 degrees and people dont generally have air conditioning. Love Kirsten [View Full Entry]

We were not sure what to expect but we thought the tour would be cheesy---it wasn't. The night begins with boarding the world's only ghost bus, affectionately known as Molly. The inside of the bus is converted and decorated to look like a dungeon and it most certainly did. The seats in the lower floor had been removed and the entire floor was in darkness, except for the glow of a lantern, which glowed with the effect of a candle. The windows were covered with thick red velvet curtains. We proceeded upstairs accompanied by dark and gloomy music. The upstairs [View Full Entry]

(I know I am running a week behind, sorry!) Last Sunday I went on a guided tour called the Celtic Experience. I was looking forward to seeing some of the old Celtic religious sites along with newer (by newer I mean only 800-1000 years old) sites. The tour was due to leave from the city centre at 9:30 AM. I woke up on time (a miracle) and went out to the bus stop on the UCD campus. I thought it was strange as I walked to the bus stop that there were no buses there. Usually there are 3 or [View Full Entry]
