This was definately my favorite day of my whole time over in Europe (and probably of my life!). I was in Scotland, which already made it a great day, but I got to visit the Eilean Donan Castle (I have wanted to visit it since I lived in the Netherlands). Ross had sketched me a picture of it for his first Christmas present for me, so it was even more special that we got to go see it together. Jen, Joe, Matt, Kristen, Ross and I first went to the Visitor Center to see if we could go across the bridge to the castle. While the others stayed to look in the shop a little bit longer, Ross and I headed out toward the castle once we found out we could go. As we were ... read more

After Stirling, we made our way past the Scottish midlands and through the highlands to Culrain. The jagged small mountains were gorgeous - I think Ross' favorite scenery so far. I think people were realizing why Scotland is my favorite place on earth :). We saw some elk, but had no Scottish Highland cattle sightings just yet. It was really cool to go more North than I had been, and it seemed to just get prettier. Sadly it got dark before we reached our destination for the night: Carbisdale Castle. It truely was the best and neatest hostel I had ever stayed in. I LOVE castles :) :) :). It was so fun to explore the castle that night - through narrow hallways and up and down stairs. The library had many interesting books, some ... read more

Stirling Europe » United Kingdom » Scotland » Stirling By lgh5000 March 15th 2007The day after Jen's arrival, we started our 2 day treck in Scotland (my favorite place in the world). We rented a VW minivan (mind you, European vans are MUCH smaller than American ones), and fit the 6 of us in it. 2 in the front, 3 squished in the middle, and 1 even more squished in the back. It was a lot of fun ;) Our first stop was Stirling. We went up to the castle, took a hike around that area, and then drove to the William Wallace Monument. It was a good first taste of Scotland for Joe, Matt, Ross, and Kristen.... read more

Jen's Arrival Europe » United Kingdom » England » Yorkshire » Leeds By lgh5000 March 14th 2007Jennifer, her husband Joe, and their two friends, Matt and Kristin, came to visit over their Spring Break. They arrived on Wednesday, and we just spent the day around the Leeds area. These pictures are from Roundhay Park, which is a beautiful park about a 5-10 min walk from the Jervis' house (which we were staying at).... read more

Ingleton Europe » United Kingdom » England » Yorkshire » Ingleton By lgh5000 March 10th 2007 Ross arrived early morning on his birthday to Manchester. After fish and chips on the way home, we arrived at David and Vanessa's, and had the most delicious birthday cake. Then he opened up his birthday present, which was a suprise weekend trip to Ingleton, where he could enjoy the Waterfalls Walk there with me :) We then left later that afternoon, and took the train to Bentham, where we caught a Taxi to Ingleton. The next day we had a love... read more

Skipton Europe » United Kingdom » England » Yorkshire » Skipton By lgh5000 March 3rd 2007 After our hike on the Ilkley moors, we took a bus to Skipton. If anyone has watched Calendar Girls before, some of the movie takes place here. :) There was a really well preserved castle here, though I realized I didn't take as many pictures as I would have liked (I think I was busy recording it on video...and my dad was playing with his new toy throughout, lol :) ). After the castle w... read more

Ilkley Europe » United Kingdom » England » Yorkshire » Ilkley By lgh5000 March 3rd 2007The following Saturday my dad and I started out in Ilkley. We walked around the town a bit, and then had an almost 2 hour hike over the moors, of which we did our own trail blazing. It was so much fun! :) My poor dad had to hike in his dress shoes... The two rock formations we got to are known as the Cow and the Calf.... read more

Durham Europe » United Kingdom » England » Durham » Durham By lgh5000 March 2nd 2007My Dad came to visit, and our first trip was to Durham. It was a really cute city, with cobblestone winding streets. :) Sadly, the castle was closed to the public that day, but we were able to go into the Cathedral, and it was gorgeous! I also found out that it is where some of Harry Potter was taped :) yay! lol. ... read more

January 29th 2007

Today I got back from a fantastic Church retreat near the Lake District. I met a lot of nice people, learned a lot from speaker Pete Gaskell and the Bible, and witnessed some of the most breathtaking views I've seen yet. The rugged scenery is absolutely gorgeous - this is the reason I decided to study in northern England - and I'm so glad that I was able to see this country side my first weekend after classes :) I will be adding pictures bit by bit, because the internet I use in my flat limits how much I can upload to the internet. Some pictures show the land right beside our Christian Center we stayed at. The view from my room was amazing! Very English to say the least. :) The other pictures show our ... read more
