Hola! 1st Blog - before my big trip! So, giving a blogging a quick go, kind of like an introduction, with the intention to update in airports before going to the next place (and to see how easy it is)! So, I'm Dave, I'm 25 (soon to be 26), and going backpacking around the world! Heading off to Thailand week Monday - am I excited much? (Hella Yeah!!) It all started feeling bit real last week, had my work leaving do last Friday (last actual date of work tomorrow) - going to be a bit weird not going there after seven years!! Then had a leaving do with friends and family on the Sat, and that was epic (lost my voice after the weekend for three days!) - still time to go for a few more ... read more

The rain stopped today- at least the downpouring did. There was the occasional sprinklw, wherein the clouds did their just diligence to remind us mortals that they still had the power to drench, soak and wet to the bone!!!! Our adventuring took us into the New Forest, which as Gunther remarked, may have been new several hundreds of years ago. Today, it seems to me more like a large forest preserve where the land is maintained in a more natural state and livestock and horses left to wander....as we drove along, there were multiple congregations of said beasts- some just cows, some just horses, others groups which included both....all right along the road-or, in one or two cases, slowly meandering across the road!!! Their were foals in evidence a-plenty. No photographic evidence though- sorry! Our first ... read more

Our first visit to Bromsgrove has drawn to a close and we are on the move again. It has been a wonderful stay with Kate and Al and their hospitality cannot be faulted. It has become quite the routine for me to pour Kate and Narelle a Pimms at 5pm to begin “sun downer” drinks and I think Kate may actually miss it. There is still a large bottle left so when we next visit we can continue to assist in its disposal. I am not sure how much Pimms will be consumed in the UK this summer but I would expect a great deal as everywhere you look it is being advertised. It being a very British summer drink its presence at Jubilee functions, Wimbledon and the Olympics is expected and often welcomed. I am ... read more

Geo: 50.8998, -1.39561Saturday 07/04/12 Vigo,SpainVigo is known as "the Gateway to Atlantic" and is the largest and the most importantcity in Galicia, Spain, the Old Town still retains four of the original squares – Plaza de Pedra, Plaza Almeida, Plaza Princesa and the largest of the four, Plaza Constitucion. All of these squares are full of character, as they are framed with the original buildings of the quarter. Whilstambling around we discovered the parish church of Santa Mari and popped in and immediately realised it was Easter Sunday as all the icons and statues were on platforms ready to be paraded through the town later in the day so we left as discreetly as possible. As we're only here ... read more

We flew out of Brisbane on Thursday 5thApril, with the first stop being Singapore. We were only off the plane long enough to go out of the arrivals gate, down the hall and back through security (where Deb had the pleasure of a pat-down – clearly she looked like a terrorist) to get back on the plane bound for Abu Dhabi. Touched down in Abu Dhabi, and had enough time for a coffee, a rest, and a chat to some fellow travellers before boarding for London. The brief stop in Abu Dhabi was interesting – the terminal is unbelievable, and the sheiks with their bodyguards and the groups of Polici trotting around with their semi-automatics reminded us that we were far from home LOL We behaved ourselves in Abu Dhabi :) The last leg to London ... read more

3 days left! Thursday 8th March, 2012. Wow! I can't believe how quickly my leaving date has caught up with me! I still have a few things left to do, but the majority of my packing is done, and I should be able to finish all my remaining tasks today, leaving the weekend free to... panic! Ahh! I am starting to get so nervous now. It feels so strange saying goodbye to everyone and knowing I won't see them for 5 months. What's worse is that Sam is going on his own journey on 15th June, and he won't be in the UK when I get back. I have to wait 8 months to see him! His trip is due to end in October and I'm flying out to Chicago to meet him there for a ... read more

Hello there! So today is Wednesday 22nd February and today I had the last of the injections I was advised to have before travelling. All together I've had Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Polio and two Japanese encephalitis injections. I'm due to start taking my malaria medication on Sunday, as that will be exactly two weeks before I leave! I am also fully equipped with a brand new backpack and sleeping bag, and I've been gradually stocking up on the essentials... sun cream, mosquito spray, international mobile and SIM card... I even have a 'travel towel', which is really thin and feels more like fleecing than an absorbent towel?! Oh well, I'll find out how practical it is soon enough I suppose! Earlier this month Sam and I took a trip to London and stayed at the Shaftesbury ... read more

Hi to all those who know us, and welcome, and to those that do not, and have just stumbled by, you are also most welcome. This is the first test entry on this site, hopefully the first of many that will document forever our six month bike trip around the USA. (Sorry bike and trike) We will leave on April 1st 2012 and fly to Newark NJ, and then fingers crossed, we will collect bike and trike from the docks there the day after. I have added some maps that show our proposed month by month rough route, although who knows where we will end up, the only plan is, that there is no plan, except to try and keep the mileage below 20,000 this time. If you would like to be informed each time we ... read more
