We arrived at Southampton Western Docks, berth 106 at 11:30. We hadn't even got out of the car and tragedy had already stuck. Had I lost my wallet? No? Had my passport been stolen? No! Had the ship sank before we had a chance to experience its delights? No! I had forgotten my San Francisco baseball cap. Without it I feel I'm just going to become another passenger!! Check in was the fasted we had ever experienced. On entering the dock area there were clear signposts to the Grand Princess. We parked right outside the passenger departure terminal. We were given a ticket and someone drove the car away. Next, on entering the cruise terminal we were shown straight to a counter. Within 3 minutes, after completing a health declaration, we received our 'Gold' cruise cards ... read more

Well we have made it the sunny part of the UK, headed south from Settle on Friday after another family dinner at my cousin's Julie's and stayed overnight with friends at Leighton Buzzard, London, (about 35miles outside of London). Quite night in general, however treated to a five star home cooked meal, thank you Jo and Graham. Departed on Saturday morning and arrived at my Cousin Stuarts in Denmead, Portsmouth for a traditional BBQ. Got to say, that the weather since leaving Settle as been nothing but sunshine. Cath and I are now just chilling out for a the day before exploring the surrounding area, so it's a quite morning, before going to Portsmouth for a meal and beers. Cath's monkey bite has now all cleared up and the doctor has told her that there should ... read more

Hello from Merry Old England. We have docked at Southampton and this marked the end of the cruise. That is sad, but we are looking forward to the remainder of the adventures we have planned. But let’s keep this in order. FYI … Despite the minutes which Ray and Mary gave us, we could not get connected to the shipboard internet last night, so that entry has been delayed in being posted. We had to meet in the Wheelhouse Lounge at 7:00 this morning for disembarkation. So it was up early (even with the extra hour for being back in the UK) to finish putting everything in our remaining carry-on bags, and off to the Horizon Court for one more meal. There was also a question on our bill to be resolved with the purser before ... read more

The three brave cyclists left Fleet at 11 (see picture) looking vaguely like pizza delivery cyclists, infront of a large crowd of supporters, onlookers and press. A scenic countryside cycle began the journey, closely followed by a coffee stop in East Tisted watched by Branville the Labrador. The intrepid three then ventured across the South Downs for a few climbs finally descending into the traffic of Portsmouth, veering between traffic lanes was certainly a bundle of fun. Now all that's left to do is await the luxury cabin on-board the Ferry to St Malo, champagne on ice and let the holiday begin! We had never seen the Saw Doctors before. We had often speculated about how new people are won over to our favourite bands. We felt alone among the faithful, but too loud for us. We went to the Hampshire Songs presentation which was a complete antithesis. When it finished we went to the bar for a drink and found Dervish (who we had seen in the afternoon) playing with a couple of the American guests. It was a magic experience until the crowds arrived after the end of Saw Doctors. I supppose it could only have been bettered if it had been Show of Hands and Dervish. (Steve Knightly had guested with them at Shrewsbury FF 2010).... read more

The Oyster Band also go a long way back. They attended our original home folk club an the Nag's Tail. They came on from The Bromyard Folk Festival and seemed to fill half of the club room with their equipment (there were normally no electrics). We have held a soft spot for them since (it must be over 30 years now), but are not fanatics. They gave a very good performance.,... read more

Show of Hands are our favourite act. We remember them individually from the 1970s when they did floor and guest spots at Exeter University. We saw them for the first time as Show of Hands at The Evesham Arts Centre early on when there were about 20 in the audience! We have followed their career with interest. They normally now play with Miranda Sykes on double bass, but the bass had met with an accident that day and Miranda had returned early to Bath. So Phil and Steve were back to the duo, the performance was perhaps more fresh and they were doing some older stuff as they needed to replace songs that relied on Miranda. Someone had recently asked why they still called the trio "Show of Hands with Miranda Sykes", I had said you ... read more
